Two GKs you don't see everyday:

I did not know a 9.8 Advs of Robin Hood existed. Very nice!

Edit. I looked at the census. There sat two 9.8's. There are no 9.6's. Anyway, awesome!

Many of them I have never seen before. I absolutely love all of the Charlton's. They always seem tough to find in the higher grades.

The cheap paper used and sloppy haphazard printing jobs make Charltons absolutely brutal to find in high grade.

Here's a couple of my U.F.O.s:

Here's a Looney Tunes #91 is picked up at a comic shop at the coast while on vacation. Has a sub crease, it's probably about VG, but for $10 I thought it was really cool. My only Golden Age book:

If anyone has some spare slabbed Magnus issues (mostly, 9.6 or better). Please PM me. I'm trying to finish my set.

Ditto -- looking for high-grade (9.4 or better) raws of # 33 or 43.

They're Bronze, they're reprints, and they're my nemeses.

Lucky, lucky dog....

I pursued this 9.4 on CL two times years ago. Both times I either came up short bidding or stopped at less than it was going to take to buy it on the exchange as I had just gotten my 9.2 a year earlier. A lovely, old label book to boot!

Of course what to say about a 1963 SA book in 9.8?? Jaw dropping. Gorgeous cover as well

Many collectors now are unaware of the impact Gold Key made on the stands. They had some of the best selling books of the day with the Disney titles. And their small Adventure/Super Hero line up made a splash on the stands and with readers. The early GK's were physically larger than their competitors books - closer to GA size. Painted covers, the back cover was a pin up of the front. NO ADS. All for the same 12 cents all the others were charging. It was awesome!

The only Silver Age Blue Beetle that gets any respect is the Steve Ditko pencilled Ted Kord. The original tends to get overlooked by most collectors these days. Not by me though. Here are scans of my Blue Beetle comics:

Please do not misunderstand me.

I love these books.

They are, however, TERRIBLE!!

Poor art, story is worse, covers ho-hum.

The cover is way better than the interior.

And that speaks volumes.

That said, beautiful condition on these, Hepcat.

Please tell me you have read them :wishluck:

Tony,

Yeah - I missed the 9.4 Magnus 1 when it was in the C-link auction a few years ago as well. But I was able to jumpstart my Gold Key Magnus collection that night, as C-link sold a complete set, which was at the time the # 1 registry set.

And to illustrate how key-centric collectors are, issue # 1 alone sold for more than issues 2-46 combined.

I picked up the # 1 a few years later when it re-sold on eBay for ~1/2 the C-link price.

Here's another early Magnus, arguably the only other key in the whole run, because it's got Walt Simonson's 1st published art -- a fan submission when I believe he was in his early teens. The only Sig Series Magnus book is a copy of this one signed by him.
