ALL THINGS COMICS OR TRIM JOB CENTRAL?
1 1

196 posts in this topic

those trim jobs are ridiculous. they're eliminating dialogue!

and it looks like they'll probably lose $100 on the GL 76.

at least they're disclosing, but who says their buyers will?

That's true, but if someone can't spot the color touch and trimming on that GL 76 they either need corrective eye surgery or shouldn't be spending more than $5 on old comics.

What a hatchet job.

I just noticed this today. This is what they apparently did to a book they bought off me a few weeks ago.

If you have any respect or love for comics you would never do business with these guys.

WOW!!! They took like an 1/8 of an inch off the bottom! UFB!!! :censored:

The photos of the comics are similar to another site called Silveragemintcomics.com. That individual also sold trimmed and restored comics. He passed them off as warehouse finds and never read. I believe that site is now closed.

You're thinking of http://www.mintsilveragecomics.com/ Right?

Yes! That's right. Thank you. He sold on Ebay as well at one time.

They do mention the trimming in the description (not the title though).

Yes Chris. But unlike CGC or respectable sellers that just say trimmed...not which side, or sides, or all 3 sides which I think matters...especially the right side if they go so far as to remove dialogue/artwork as in the ASM 50.

Nice of ninjasealed to post an actual recent proof that they in fact are doing this trimming, or much of it themselves. ( :gossip: which we already knew...just perhaps not at what level. )

So here we have these miscreants in their Frankenbook Lab working over and destroying books day in and day out. Pretty pathetic but they're making a ton of dough and they could give a mess...

My thinking is if they trim a book slightly and the tell-tale signs are far less obvious they post the book without citing the trimming. The thinking goes that newbs and the uneducated buyers about the seller will think "oh, he posts when books are trimmed and therefore he didn't say so for this book so it must not be trimmed."

Can you say total person_who_is_obnoxiously_self-impressed bags??

+1000!! I blew this up to ensure no one misses this. And hopefully, maybe get those who have a tendency to slide a little back and forth across the ethical line to think twice next time they're slobbering over one of their books... :sumo:

Is that Hammer's site? Looks like it. Photoshopped and trimmed "gems".

The angled photos on the wooden table reminds me of Hammer.

It sure looks like his work. How many years has it been now that he just keeps coming up with all these high grade books?

May as well take a half inch off. They still would call that high grade? What complete jag-offz.

so the CT is on GL's hip? looks like it bled through to the other side given the last scan. so they just went in with a magic marker or something? reminds me of too many horribly CTd copies of ASM 28 I've seen.

The color touch is all over the place. Compare the before and after pictures I posted.

It would help if people knew his real name. Of course the board police would probably balk at the idea of such information being made publicly available.

Grading companies shouldn't be handing out 9.4s to trimmed books, regardless of the label color. The book hasn't been restored, it's been doctored. They should treat all trimmed edges as if the missing edge had been chipped, torn, stained or otherwise damaged, so depending on the size of the trim, 7.0 would probably be about as good as it gets, and for a book like that X-Men #1 where it looks like at least an 1/8th of an inch was taken off all sides, a 5.0 at best. The GL is now an apparent 2.0.

There appears to be 1/4" missing on the right edge of the GL76 along with 1/8" off the top and bottom.

I understand buyer beware with that since it is raw, but how does all 3 edges trimmed and amatuer color touch qualify for "Slight" restoration on the graded (albeit from another company) X-men #1?

This is really sad. :(

They bought the book for $200 and hope to get what for all their 'work'...

... $165?!
