Supergirl #12B by Stanley "Artgerm" Lau hits the shelves next week. This is about as sure as a sure thing gets for an inexpensive variant. Its ironic that its another #12. His best Batgirl cover, at least imo, was Batgirl #12. As for modern Supergirl covers, I'd rate this right behind The AH! LoSH #23 variant and the Infinite Crisis #3B variant by JG Jones. It will probably be more sought after than the Jones' cover due to Lau's growing fan base.

It's too pin up and digital. Looks like one of his convention prints.

His original Batgirl 12 had texture, sex appeal as well as violence.

That's a decade(s) old write-up on the differences.  Since that time, it has been discovered that the Rai #0 Glossy cover is always shorter than the internal pages.  So, it is possible to differentiate between regular (matte) and glossy just from a cover scan/picture.

The glossy version should show the edge of the first page, mostly black with sections of magenta, blue, green, blue, etc.

The regular "matte" version (non-glossy) either doesn't show any of the internal pages or just shows a tiny amount.

So . . . what's mine then? hm

I agree on all points. I also don't think that it won't be an easy sell at $10+ in a few months at cons from casual collectors/fans who just love to look at and display covers.

I like it. I understand that the Batgirl was near perfect but I think this captures Supergirl pretty well. I picture the majority of the Bats family as grim, gritty, tough, and dark. I see the Super bunch as more elegant, light/sunny, powerful and flowing. The only problem I have with it is that most of his faces look the same and the Batgirl definitely stands apart from the majority of his work in that regard. He isn't alone in this. Most of AH!'s characters  and  especially  JSC's faces resemble each other too. People tend to overlook it so I'm betting they will here.

I think this book will be selling for $10 the same day on eBay and also think there will be pretty consistent demands through cons and other venues.  I bet fairly large on this book myself---great short and long term pick imo....

I like it too - it squeaky clean (just like Supergirl).

Not glossy.  I see a few spine ticks.  Nice sharp corners.  I'd give it a grading of 9.4.

Yep, that's a regular edition Rai #0 (not glossy)... the tiny edge of the first page showing on the right side is normal for regular edition.  Glossy Rai #0 covers are noticeably shorter than the interior pages.

I don't get the appeal of Artgerm, as it's too slick and digital to be appealing to my tastes. But I accept that everyone likes what they like. So by all means, everyone start snapping his stuff up, and leave more Bolland, Stevens and Hughes books for me!

The Supergirl artwork itself doesn't bother me.  But doesn't the framing of the picture bother anybody???  Or is it just me?  The entire left hand is cropped off and her legs are cut off at the worse possible point.

That's basic 101...fail.  Zoom out (I'm sure the original art has the entirety of Supergirl).

I agree. At the risk of sounding like a cranky music fan, I find his earlier work has much more humanity and differentiation to the faces.
