Look, I'm sure he didn't mean any harm.

He made the noob mistake. I just fell for the "I'm a huge Capt fan, and my wife would kill me if I spent that kind of money..." blah blah story.

We've all been there. I only sell now if I'm happy with the price. Very few exceptions.

I think the bigger issue was the Spamming. If I said to you in PM since wer're friends, Harvey, hey I'm starting this new forum, come hang out and tell your friends to come hang out there too. I don't think CGC would have a problem with that. If I send out hundreds of PMs to people I don't know soliciting, then yea I totally get why CGC would have an issue, noone wants spam. Though I am curious about the schill of course.

I had a question related to ebay selling and couldn't figure out the best forum for it (if there is one at all). Just let me know the best spot for it if this isn't it.

Any clue why some people use a reserve in their auctions? Why not just make that the minimum bid? Just seems like sellers are playing games and certainly makes me much less inclined to bid in that auction.

They use a reserve because they don't want to give the book away for a price lower than what they are comfortable with selling it for. Or they are using it to gauge interest in the book. If you have a high starting bid and your item doesn't sell you have no idea what buyers were willing to pay for it. With a reserve auction that doesn't sell you can see how high interested parties were willing to bid.

They also use a low starting price with a reserve instead of their acceptable minimum as a starting price to encourage a lot of early bids on the book while the price is low. A high starting bid usually deters bidders from bidding until the last possible moments. It also turns away bidders looking for a potential deal. At least that is the theory behind it.

only problem with that, and Im betting Im not the only one, when I see a "reserve price" listed on an eBay auction, I just keep moving.

Which never made any sense to me. If you see a book you want to bid on, you must have a maximum bid you would be willing to put on it, yes? So how does having a reserve affect that? You max bid either meets the reserve or it doesn't. Its no different than bidding on a book against another bidder who is willing to pay more for it than you are.

Does anyone else share this sentiment that there's nothing wrong with the degree of threadcrapping going on in ham's sales thread?

I've always been of the mindset that you take your comments elsewhere, PM, discussion thread...etc, but not IN the sales thread...

previous owner has sour grapes that a book is being resold at a price greater than he sold it originally.

Whoa! That's about as bad as it gets.

+1 not cool.

1000% inappropriate, particularly because ThirdH PAID HIS FULL ASK!! It's not like he haggled him down to that price and now he's irritated his arm got twisted, that's what he asked for????!??!?!?

(Did he even sell it for the $3,000 sought?)

I see the OP realized the error of his ways. What goes around comes around. Maybe he'll be making a huge profit on something he bought here 6 months earlier one of these days? It happens to all of us who regularly sell here. Do you think I was thrilled when I sold 10 copies of Saga 1 for $30 a pop and the guy who bought them was selling them (successfully) for $80+ a pop 2-3 weeks later? I was only irritated with myself for not timing it right, not the seller. I don't think he even haggled with me either.

People should be more upset that it's a Mixed Age thread with Moderns listed for sale that hasn't been appropriately moved by moderation to the Mixed section.
