List updated. And a 10-year board veteran no less

I combed the thread but didn't see anything obvious. Who was the 10 year board veteran that backed out of a deal?

Man....

lol

That is pathetic.

Next time someone puts up a sales thread that I am interested in I'm going into the recycling box to check and see if any coupons apply first before pulling the trigger.

There is nothing wrong with constructive criticism.

We all learn something new every day.

With that being said why is it that with this thread and PMs available for such things that thread crapping seems to be the go to move for so many?

It was bad enough that people were criticizing my gold / silver / age sales thread before I even finished putting the listings up (despite warnings in the OP that the thread and links were under construction at the time) but now someone decides to quote one of these posts.

Since some people seem to be unable to help themselves I would appreciate if one of the mods can make this latest post in my thread go poof.

Fair enough. However people may feel about the sales presentation, that is a matter of opinion, and your thread is otherwise conform to the rules. There were some good natured and constructive posts, but some were definitely neither and I agree with you that those negative posts should be removed.

As one of the negative posters, let me set the record straight. My post was over an hour after the first (and at that time only) post in the thread. The post was wordy, visually distracting and confusing as to where the books for sale were, and the only link took me to a list of moderns. As it happens, the OP was coming back with the moving parts required to turn it into a G/S/B sales thread later, but that wasn't obvious at the time - I thought 'work in progress' meant 'more books to be added'. As others later suggested, he could have used the test thread to build it.

For my part I'm sorry if Dr Chaos took offence, but it was fair criticism at the time - and a mod could easily have decided to poof his first post if he'd come across it at the same time I did.

The link was clearly marked under construction. I used the modern thread to copy the format for the links (hence they were directed to that thread). Until the post with the listings was created there was nowhere for the link to go.

I believe the thread took less than two hours to build so it is not like you really waited for me to flesh things out before pouncing.

Would it have killed you to send me a PM or to post your criticism in this thread instead of cluttering what is essentially my store front with your post which clearly did nothing to help me sell any comics?

Don't build the threads on the fly in the selling area.

Build them in the test area or in a PM to yourself and when they are 100% ready to go then copy and paste them. You'll save time and effort that way, you'll have a copy of your thread in case something happens to it, and you won't lose shoppers who see every other seller post books and be ready to sell when the thread is initially posted.

A lot of shoppers will look once, see it's not ready to go, and never come back.

Have it ready from the get go and everyone has much more fun.

I don't understand. Why you want to do a sales thread with hundreds of animated pics and hyperlinks all over the place. That original sales thread was crazy looking and most people back buttoned the heck out of there.....

And he seems to be wondering why his thread hasn't been more of a success. Gee, I wonder why? It's a real head scratcher, that's for sure

This.

I looked once.

No chance i would go into one of your threads Dr. Chaos after that assault on both my senses and computer.

And as comix4fun said, you can build a thread in the test area or a PM beforehand if need be to work out kinks, bandwidth issues, epilepsy concerns...

I don't think anyone is making an issue about it. It is his thread and he can do what he wants. I am trying to give him honest advice to maximize his sales. A lot of people look at sales threads on their phone, Ipads or other devices. If they are assaulted with a hundred animated gifs, it is just too difficult to navigate and most exit. If he doesn't care about the buyer, then fine, do whatever looks cool but otherwise....

I bought a couple of Hawkeye Comics from chaos. Good transaction, I could care less about his sales thread's style. Certainly not worth making an issue out of it.

If more people agreed, then his thread would have been much more of a success but it hasn't, so there you go. (shrug) People are free to construct their threads as they see fit but if they actually want to sell something, there's an effective way and an ineffective way

I'm with this.

People can do whatever they want in their threads but if I see a thread that seems to have every bell and whistle going on all at once, I'm out of there as well...once my browser can recover.

Good for you.

His sales thread style made me back out of the thread.

At the end of the day I made a couple sales threads attempting to sell some books here. I did sell some books but not as many as I hoped. I will take any lessons learned with me the next time I decide to set up a new thread.

I did my best to follow the rules and made sure that my threads conformed to them. I believe it is reasonable to expect that others should follow the rules as well.

While I had some ideas that I wanted to try out it is unfortunate that not everyone liked all of them as much as I had hoped. I received a lot of feedback regarding the threads and some of it was even positive. Most people were grown up enough to post there feedback by PM, in this thread, in the sales announcement thread, or even in the moderation threads.

While I think the negative posts may discourage some potential buyers the feedback has been helpful. I just have a problem with posts in the threads themselves that crossed the line from friendly suggestions to outright criticism. I would much rather have people looking at my books than snide comments. You can dress it up however you like but there is no excuse for thread crapping.

As for the feedback I have received, it has not been ignored. I did make some changes to the first thread (the modern thread) and scaled back the gifs, etc. even further in the more recent G/S/B age thread. I may let these threads play out a bit but the next time I set up a sales thread it will probably look a lot more like most of the other threads I have seen here.

Please keep in mind though that the hyperlinks, the index, and the links in the signature are there for a reason. I have sold here before and seen other sales threads and am attempting to make it easier for the people that do want to buy books from me to find them. As a buyer here I have seen threads that start out with listings of the individual books (interrupted by posts from people other than the seller) and a series of recap pages that are not always so easy to find. With over 1,000 books to sell, an index at the beginning of the thread with links to the individual listings seems like a good idea to me.

I understand that it may not be so easy to peruse the thread with a smart phone but with so many books listed, my expectation was that people would prefer to look at the thread when they had the time to sit down at a computer and go through it. I never expected that anyone would see a thread title with over 1,000 books and think "hey I have three minutes until my train comes let's look at that thread now" instead of waiting to check it out when they got home.

While I have made some mistakes I will learn from them and do better next time. Meanwhile I think that some of you are missing out on some great books just because you do not like the way I have presented them.

I bought a couple of Hawkeye Comics from chaos. Good transaction, I could care less about his sales thread's style. Certainly not worth making an issue out of it.

Due to a recent rule change since my last sales thread here my initial attempt to create the thread went poof along with any announcements regarding initial sales. I did make some modifications to the modern thread based upon early feedback but at the onset the thread was successful which why I gave some (bad?) ideas more time to play out.

Thanks again for your purchase and support.

...also there is a box you can uncheck when you post (or edit) that will eliminate your signature being included in each and every post.

My signature contains links to my other threads, my feedback (kudos here and ebay), and other books available for combined shipping.

You have a point about the gif banner in the signature. It may be distracting. I only added it recently but could just as easily get rid of it if it is a problem.

Tell me if I'm in the wrong place for this...

I have seen that people use media mail to ship comics but my local post office told me that it is not allowed because they have advertisements inside of them. Can anybody help me out on this?

This is the stance taken by the post office.

You could try to tell them you are simply mailing books but if they open the package to inspect it they may send it back to you or with postage due to the recipient.

You could roll the dice to save money on shipping but there is a risk.

I have no idea what percentage of media mail gets checked.
