If I could own the first appearance of any of Spider-Man villains it would be Mysterio he’s definitely my favourite spidey villain.I always count kingpin as a daredevil villain and amazing Spider-Man 14 is such a great book brilliant cover and a brilliant story

Evening all 

I spotted this printing error on eBay last week and, unusually for me, I actually managed to win it: 

Here it is alongside my previous pence copy:

 

There's a quite significant, selective absence of black ink on Spidey, you'll note:

That selective absence carries over to the back cover too:

Always a good sign.

Amazing (heh heh) the difference black ink makes isn't it.

When compared to my old cents copy (also an error copy, funnily enough, but of the internal variety) you can see the remnants of the 12c price on the pence copy where they didn't quite manage to scratch it all off:

These things are rarely definitive of course, but the reduction in black ink, and the remnants of the 12c price, are both arguably anecdotal indications that the pence copy was printed second.

You never know though do you.

Don't be disheartened Tghutcn. The forum is US run, so it stands to reason that interest in UKPV related discussions will be limited. Even the established UK boardie's here have next to no interest in them.

A blue X-Men #4 6.0 White UK price variant sold for $5485 on 5/28/21, higher than the 6.0 cents on 6/30 ($4161) but the same as cents went for in May.    Does anyone recall/know  whether the buyer posted here?  Would be cool to see it.

And then try to take a decent photo! I'm always rubbish at them.

Wow.  Considering the undeniable, abeit mysterious connection UK price variants have with so many Marvel Silver Age and Broze Age books (over 3,200 issues, is it?), including the holy grails of the early SA, the early details of their emergence on the scene is not only cool, but historically important.  Feels like the first twenty "appearances" of a special Marvel character!  Thank you for putting this together over the years and sharing.    Folks would be hard-pressed to find any one of the pictured books at any given time, let alone in a desired grade, key or not.  A truly extraordinary accomplishment.   Congrats!

The Pence Palace of Doom

And as is often the case, the rarest are the least desired. That Battle #70 is the only 9d example I have ever seen but remains a book of low interest to most. I posted the story of how I came to get it at a live auction a while back. A very enjoyable day it was, so the book holds special meaning for me, aside of its apparent uniqueness. You wouldn't believe what I had to bid to win it, tucked away as it was in a lot of other books which I gave to Paul McCartney in a swap for the Patsy & Hedy and a dollop of future credit. Usually when I point out 9d scarcity a flurry of additional copies surface (see Wyatt Earp #29) but Battle is the one 9d book that has continued to buck that trend. Even MGP #7 has shown up three times now.

Anyway, my work on Marvel is done - all issues confirmed, all content confirmed, all differences confirmed etc etc etc - and I am no longer seeking any copies for my collection. I plan to replace my journal pages at some point - the original intention was for them to act as the reference summaries of issue numbers etc, but I look at them now and they seem quite drab, as well as being a little out of date in places. What I have in mind will be much more image friendly and, hopefully, engaging as a result. So if you see the journal disappear at some point, you'll know what I'm up to.

May I add my congratulations Steve. It is a wonderful, and probably unique, set. Even though back in the day I never bought Western or Cartoon Romance comics this is one collection that I would be proud to own.

Yes well done Steve and many thanks for all your efforts. It’s been extremely illuminating, even as a long time UK collector I was unaware of what existed as UKPVs until I came across your posts. I just assumed everything that was distributed existed as a UKPV.

Steve, you deserve so much credit for this work. A fantastic effort that I doubt anyone else could have done. 

As you know, years ago, Kevin and I tried to document all pence copies but just couldn't do it. I compiled a list of pence copies and was pleased with that but your work has gone way beyond that. 

And I love that those 20. Fantastic.

Thanks boys. There was a lot of help and support along the way, from good people like yourselves. They do look good, don't they, that first twenty all lined up. Wonderful things aren't they, comics from that era. They're of their time, and, like many things for me, they'll never come again, never be matched or bettered.
