Disney+'s WHAT IF ...? ANIMATED SERIES (2021)

Beautifully animated episode but depressing, like What If? 32.

I think the biggest problem with this series is its unwillingness or inability to bring in all the characters as yet unseen in the MCU, Howard the Duck being the notable exception.

In the MCU, nothing has been said that Stones only work in one’s own universe. They totally work across the Multiverse, just ask Stephen Strange. It’s only said the Stones don’t work in the TVA, which exists outside the Multiverse.

Actually, there's a cautionary tale with assuming things from that episode. Casey actually didn't state Infinity Stones have no powers at the TVA. He said they get them all the time, which probably implies from variants associated with Nexus Events.

This scenes got some hardcore fans excited because they jumped to the conclusion it now implied Natasha and Tony Stark's sacrifices were relegated due to the stones having no powers now. Then a number of articles came out explaining that was never stated in Loki. Just that the Infinity Stones show up often - and in multiples. But the Marvel Studios creators never clarified or addressed this. But the Russo Brothers did with a joke to lighten the response to that episode.

Casey says they get them all the time, then follows it by saying "some of the guys use them as paperweights", implying they have no power in this place. They are no better than paperweights. Loki ponders, "Is this[the TVA] the greatest power in the universe?" Later, Loki tells Mobius "Even an Infinity Stone is useless here. The TVA is formidable."

It is shown and said indirectly that the Infinity Stones have no power in this place where Kang established the TVA. The future implication of that is Infinity Stones can't be used to defeat Kang in his domain. It also implies, from a storytelling sense, that the MCU is moving on from the Infinity Stones story.

You are adding a lot of the narrative to imply something. Just because they noted they are treated as paperweights doesn't mean 'only at the TVA they have no power'. They just treat them as common.

Loki did imply they are assumed to be powerless. But nobody at the TVA actually clearly stated this. But you can convince yourself otherwise.

And listen to what Casey says with that statement.

"Some of the guys use 'em as paperweights. SOME OF THEM!"

It implies there is a select group using them as paperweights. Not everyone. So you may assume that select group are the more powerful and trusted characters.

I'm not adding a lot to the narrative.  And I'm not trying to convince myself of some phantom assumption. I'm taking what the narrative from Loki Episode 1 gave me. The characters said the above things. Loki, in the MCU, is established as an intelligent enough character to know the difference. The Tesseract is useless in the TVA. Otherwise, he would have used it.

Now that's adding a lot to the narrative.

I actually learned from WandaVision not to assume too much with these shows and just take them at face value. If Loki says the Infinity Stone is useless in the TVA, then it's useless. Kang will have no use for them, and the story will be all the better for it.

It actually isn't. I even posted the video where Casey makes the statement. Maybe take a moment to watch the actual scene.

The TVA had Loki so twisted in his viewpoints until it all came together with Sylvie and later with He Who Remains. I would not assume anything with the Infinity Stones being powerless going forward. Though some tried to imply that as if Feige was now cutting off the Infinity Saga from everything else.

See. Others watch these shows and also know the backstories too. :baiting:

Even when Loki finds out all the TVA soldiers are actually variants that had mind wipes applied.

It took Sylvie to reveal this to Loki. Not Loki finding out on his own. And there are probably other TVA secrets he never figured out.

But he's smart. (:

Of course, Sylvie is a Loki. And Sylvie doesn’t figure out the Time soldiers are variants through intellectual deduction, she figured it out because she saw their mind and past life as she possessed them.

Loki is no All-Father, but he’s smart enough to know when an Infinity Stone has no power and to find another way.

Uh-huh. Meanwhile through two actual show videos and fewer words facts are achieved.

No assumptions necessary. :whee:
