CGC Welcomes Bill Sienkiewicz, Award Winning Comic Book Artist, for an Exclusive Private Signing

Posted on 6/1/2021

CGC announces the first In-House Private Signing with the highly-requested Bill Sienkiewicz!

CGC is thrilled to host the talented Bill Sienkiewicz for an In-House Private Signing at our headquarters. Sienkiewicz is a multi-Eisner-winning, Emmy-nominated artist best known for revamping comic and graphic novel illustration from 1980 onward — most notably with Marvel's Elektra: Assassin, Moon Knight and New Mutants (which inspired FX’s Legion and Disney’s New Mutants), and his acclaimed graphic novel Stray Toasters — which earned him an international reputation and cult status across media industries.

In addition to signatures, Sienkiewicz also will be offering a limited number of his iconic Remarques for purchase. See pricing and more details below.

Bill Sienkiewicz is a classically trained painter whose comic art incorporates abstract and expressionist influences and any combination of oil painting, acrylics, watercolor, mixed media, collage and mimeograph — previously unheard of in comics. His paintings have graced the National Museum of Fine Arts in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; galleries in New York, Paris, Barcelona and Tuscany; Spain's famed La Semana Negra (The Black Week) Festival; and the internationally touring exhibition Marvel: Universe of Super-Heroes.

Sienkiewicz’s retrospective art books include the Eisner-winning Bill Sienkiewicz’s Mutants and Moon Knights and Assassins (IDW), Revolution (Six Foot Press) and The New Mutants: Bill Sienkiewicz Marvel Artist Select Series (IDW). He also illustrated The Island of Dr. Moreau (Beehive), Voodoo Child: The Illustrated Legend of Jimi Hendrix (Kitchen Sink) and Moby (Classics Illustrated).

Sienkiewicz’s commercial and editorial work includes posters for the 2018 Halloween remake, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Netflix’s The Black Godfather, Logan, The Green Mile, Unforgiven and the 2006 Winter Olympics; advertising campaigns for Legion, Nike, MTV and Nissan; CCG game cards Magic: The Gathering and VS System; and magazines such as Playboy, Entertainment Weekly and Spin. He also has designed album covers for Seth MacFarlane, Kevin Smith, RZA/Bobby Digital, Kid Cudi, EPMD, T.I. and Bruce Cockburn.

He also has contributed on-set props and portraiture for Legion, storyboards for The Green Mile and production and character design for the PBS children's TV series Where In the World is Carmen Sandiego? The character of Kingpin in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was modeled after Sienkiewicz’s interpretation in Marvel’s Daredevil: Love and War. He has taught at The Illustration Academy in Kansas City, MO and The Kubert School in Dover, NJ, and spoken at the California College of the Arts in San Francisco and ArtCenter in Pasadena, CA.

Sienkiewicz has garnered numerous accolades — most notably 2019 Eisner Awards for the Eisner Hall of Fame and Best Archival Collection for IDW’s Bill Sienkiewicz’s Mutants and Moon Knights and Assassins, 2004 Eisner for DC Comics' The Sandman: Endless Nights, and 1995 and 1996 Emmy Award nominations for Where In the World is Carmen Sandiego?

In the mid-80s, Elektra: Assassin swept the top comic illustration awards in the US and Europe, with a Kirby Award, Yellow Kid Award and Gran Guigiri Award. He also earned a Spectrum Grand Master Award, Inkpot Award, four Eagle Awards, Alpe d’Huez Award, Haxter Award, Adamson Award, March of Dimes Award for charity work and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Newark School of Fine and Industrial Art, which he attended.

“Bill Sienkiewicz has influenced and contributed so much to the comic and entertainment worlds with his brilliant works of art,” commented Brittany McManus, CGC Signature Series Director. “We are honored to host him here at CGC Headquarters for this amazing private signing opportunity, and we cannot wait to see all of the submissions we will receive for this event!”

I submitted a few things for the James Tynion IV signing event. Any ideas when it actually happened / will happen. My submission is still sat in "Received"

I haven't seen anything that I know of, they seem to be slow on updates on that end, of if they're done already

I personally haven't heard but it is no longer under the events page so I'm calling it done! Hopefully updates soon ☺️

Really going back and forth on this one.  I'd love Jim Lee OA, but I'm wondering if I'd be better off saving the money and putting it towards a more detailed sketch.  I'd love one of the pieces he does on his live streams or a torso sketch.  The head sketch seems like it's just a slightly more detailed remarque.

Yes and I'm doing the remarque......

It's tough, I had to choose quickly, I have an xmen 266 9.2 already signed ss by Jim Lee

I know it's not been pressed so, i may try my hand at it, instead of my 9.8

It doesnt hurt that my birthday is next month, and i already have it submitted and printed....

Like i said i had to choose a book quick

general question for those who have submitted for SS remarques

on the submission form there is box where you submit details (limited to 150 characters) for your remarque

does CGC read that info that you entered to the artist at time of signing or do you need to make sure and include some details on your window bag?

also how descriptive do you get, I know it is ultimately up to the artist's digression but 150 characters isn't a lot of info

I didn't go into much if any detail on my submission form other than to list the character, the cover I am submitting is a pretty busy cover as it is and just don't know how much more info I need to include or just let the artist wing it and hope for the best

I ultimately didn't pay for the item in my cart, but I had originally selected sketch.  My note for the sketch simply read: Choice #1: Psylocke, Choice #2: Savage Land Rogue.

I would put a post-it or note on the windowed bag when you submit as well just in case.

Sigh...i'm totally gonna feel FOMO for skipping this.  Best of luck to you.  I'm gonna hold out hope that Jim does another signing with CGC next year so I can at least see more examples of sketches that people got.
