Mutant - born with a mutation that gives them a super-powered ability. Mutate - born in the normal range but later encountered an agent which caused a mutation, gene alteration and a superpower, eg Hulk, FF, Spider-Man. Also, if you go back as far as World War One and earlier, the armed forces figured out that the bayonet should be attached to the end of the rifle, but it appears that the designers of a very advanced rifle, sorry, BFG, from the far future are oblivious to this and would prefer to make it as difficult as possible for the user.
