My very first sale was an Avengers 11. The slab was perfect when I mailed it to him, but when he received it, the seller said it was all melty. He sent a pic and it looked just like this. I just figured it must've been left out in the heat (California), so I paid for a reholder.

 This slab is perfect, I woke up too early, later I'll take some more photos of it. It's just a distortion of the slab thru optics where light is going thru the plastic and that's how the picture comes out.

Maybe it was true for your buyer or... dubious $20 discount.

3 purchases I made this year that I really like are these.

I started buying Amazing Spider-Man off the stands with issue #153 and was hooked. When I noticed this #158 page come to auction recently it was from an issue I greatly remember reading in my early days of collecting.

Ross Andru is the Spider-Man artist of my time. I love this page and according to a thread started in Original Art I probably overpaid. Not sure how you put a price on comic art when it has a special meaning to you. I actually had a max bid of $6000 above what I won it for. Now you OA guys know who bought it.

 

 

Next are the twins. No special meaning on these. I had a FOOM subscription but after FOOM 10.

FOOM 10 colors are better than the picture

 

I never saw the GS 1 at my local drugstore as I'm sure I would have bought it back in the day. Got one now.

Detective Comics 29 (3rd Batman)

I don’t really collect Batman because I just can’t afford it. I always wanted a pre- Robin comic. This page is close enough for me. My favorite panel is him slowly opening the window, the way his golden age cowl is drawn made him always look pissed off, I love it. 

 

Superman 1

Great piece, golden age Superman became my preferred version of the character in 2022.  I didn’t realize how water down the hero became, a shame really. 

 

Action Comics 252( 1st Supergirl)

I remember reading reprint silver age stories of Supergirl at the library. The way she had to hide both her identities up until AC 285 was an interesting take. Kara trying to help kids get adopted always made for a decent story. Never thought I would own a copy of her first appearance when I was younger.

Here's another pic of the cap 

It's the label distortion thru the plastic that looks like the slab is melted.

I took another pic then took a pic of the top of the label.

As you can see there's no melting of the slab.

If anyone sells slabs and the buyer takes a pic and says they need a discount to re-slab as the slab melted. Ask them to take other pics including one focused on the label itself 👍

Bernie Swamp Thing page

Marvel Triple Action #45 page of original art: Sal Buscema/Esposito. What wha? How can that be?  First page of a three-page flashback to the events in The Avengers #52 and The X-Men #44, included with the reprinted story from The X-Men #45, featuring Angel encountering Red Raven and the Grim Reaper attacking Goliath, Wasp, and Hawkeye. This is one of very few Marvel Triple Action panel pages that exists, for the simple reason that it was a reprint book that usually cut pages from the original story rather than adding to them! However since the aforementioned X-Men story was just a 15-pager, some filler was needed this time.

I have a couple hundred pages of art from Marvel B&W Magazines, especially horror, but I didn't have any Brother Voodoo art, which seemed like a big gap as I had all the other 70's marvel horror characters: Gabriel, Devil Hunter, Morbius, Blade, Lilith, Satana, Dracula, Simon Garth, etc. So I was pleasantly surprised to be able to get this and 5 other pages from Tale of the Zombie #10, the last issue of the magazine, which does not have a Simon Garth story, but it does have this Brother Voodoo story that follow his Strange Tales run. It’s been a varied year. Mostly PCH, but I’ve been trying to complete a display of the first comics featuring the classic Universal monsters and their modern series, so picking up these two was a big get, especially the Frankenstein #1 because it’s been on my list for a while and that grade + Pedigree was impossible to pass up. Eventually I’d like a Prize #7 if I can find a nice enough copy, but for now I’m “settling” for this. Similarly, Police Comics #26 isn’t the first werewolf period, but it’s the first cover and More Fun Comics #11 is nigh unattainable for me thus far. In a similar vein my #3 for the year: Detective Comics #135. It’s a Canadian Variant which I’d like to upgrade to a regular copy, but for me has been a tough find in any form.
