Axe Elf has passed away 2 2

Board member @Axe Elf passed away April 15th. Many of us were deeply worried after he stopped showing up in the Warren Magazine reading club thread he curated, but we were not able to confirm his passing until today.

He was probably most active in the Magazine forums, but I saw him posting everywhere across the forums.  His love for the Warren Magazines directly inspired me to put together my collection, we were both working on our runs at the same time and we frequently pointed each other at books we knew we needed.

I wish I had known him better but I'm glad we were friends on the forum for the couple years we were here together, and I miss him and his funny, insightful comments and his absolute delight in the hobby.

I didn't know him that well, but we got on just fine. He seemed like a great guy. My condolences to his family and friends at this difficult time. 

Man, these boards're really starting to rack up a body count.

That's no age, is it. He had a fierce intellect - his religion thread here was often fascinating and thought provoking. I only had very limited interaction with him in the time he was here, but I find it sad nonetheless when I see established boardies pass, especially when you get to read a little about their lives away from this forum. It's sad news to read, but thank you Eric for taking the time to investigate his absence and for bringing his passing to our attention.

Yeah, that was an excellent joke. It's such a shame he's gone. I don't have a lot of interest in Warren magazines, but his enthusiasm for them had me engage with him a few times just because that's so great to see in any collector.

It was perhaps two or three years ago when I discovered Axe Elf over in the WC where he posted from time to time about religion & logic. His was a fascinating mind. We are an unusual bunch on these Boards. He was unusual, even for us. I'm drawn to such thinkers. They give the world a four-color glow. 

A standout thinker. I wish I knew him beyond the internet. It would've been my honor.

Very sad to hear.  Axe Elf was a sharp one.  Definitely stuck to his guns, even when the majority (myself included) often was on the other side.  But I got the feeling he had a certain self-awareness, and even though he was absolutely committed his points of view, he always made room to engage with competing opinions and explain himself without rancor.  We need more like him.

Always sobering to hear one of our own has passed. It's also such a huge reminder that these boards are just a TINY window into the lives of each user, and we all contain so much more. RIP Axe Elf.

Axe Elf (Robert) was very passionate about his Warren magazines. He would boast how he completed full runs of some of the titles in less than a year. He would start threads and ask questions about other Warren titles to add to his collection. It was always fun to point out a mag or title for him to add. I would tease him from time to time that he needed to include the Famous Monsters of Filmland mags in his collection. He would always adamantly refuse, stating they were only movie reviews and history with no story content. He then started the ongoing thread: The Warren Magazine Reading Club. I did not participate at first (because I thought I would never have the time to pull out and read an issue once a week) but I started to make comments about stories I remembered reading in my youth. As time went on with the excellent reviews Axe and @OtherEric provided, I was drawn in and looked forward to each and every review. Since Axe left us I have joined the Warren Club and add my reviews of the issues as they come up. If for nothing else, I thank Axe Elf for rekindling my interest in reading these mags again that I so loved in the first place!

I didn't know him, I'm not even sure if I ever interacted with him, I probably have.

What I do appreciate about the people here is the breadth of knowledge, enthusiasm and passion for a whole host of collecting avenues. It has inspired me over the years and has influenced me, and continues to do so. That's why this place is unique.

I remembered him participating CGC grading contests a while ago, correct?
