Popular Post UncleAnwar
My old philosophy was "complete all the runs". Easy plan, but expensive😂. Now. That I've done that with many series (FF, ASM, XMEN, DAREDEVIL, etc) my buying has slowed way down. These days I just look to upgrade key issues when I can find a book for under fmv. Then I sell my current copy to help cover the cost of the upgrade. That has been my new buying strategy for a handful of years. A lot slower and more patience required. I miss the old days of digging through boxes to find all the filler books to finish the runs. Coverdeath
Well... I'm to get DC. I mean the whole stuff... yes I m not joking. Have unrealistic goals is a much better thing for me, I know that I will never reach them but at least when I ll die I will have made my best. LITTLE EDIT: I'm not collecting stuff post 2011, new 52 and all the new sh*t is without me... and maybe limit it to the super heroes titles too, I'm not saying that funny animals aren't cool but... No let be honest, THIS IS SH*T. Edited August 5 by Coverdeath Off Panel

Popular Post OtherEric
Buy stuff I want to read. Read what I buy. Not necessarily right away, but at least give it a look. Never buy a book I'm not willing to read. Buy lower grade when I get older books so I can afford and read it. Recognize there are always exceptions... but look closely when I get something that is an exception to make sure I really want to get the item. My philosophy was always to find good representations within budget mixed with personal preference of whatever it is that I collected. As I learned more about the topic of what I was collecting, I managed to adhere to my philosophy. Starting out collecting something would be the learning process of developing the philosophy. Oh boy, do I know this one! If I collected only Comics, I'd have an amazing collection. Same with coins. Same with Currency. Same with Toys. Same with Cars, Telescopes, Video Games. I used to collect one type of "thing" until I burned out on it, and then move onto another...often because my interest would get "sparked" by a deal I found, or a show I attended, etc. But with respect to comics, I've found I tend to view mid-grade or semi-key books as sort of a store of value that doesn't tug at my heart strings hard enough. So I've diverged in my collecting habits and I either collect comics that are fairly difficult to find (and nearly impossible in the wild), or I collect Bronze age stuff in nicer grade that's nostalgic to me or a really good read. No in-between. It's either got to be "Rare", or "pretty, fun and somewhat cheap". Recently I did a thought exercise where I compiled a "bucket list" of the items I want to have before I die, or in other words....my end-goal. It was surprisingly illuminating. I figured out that I'd really like to have a Hulk 1 through 6, but I don't necessarily feel I need that JIM83. In fact, there weren't that many comics, or coins, or currency on the list, but the ones that were there totally kicked azz. But then, I'd also like a short box of pretty, glossy bronze age books that smell nice that I can pick up and read without worrying that I'd mess up the condition...VF is acceptable.. Rip
I guess a few words. Words of advice I often forget. 1. Make sure you don't buy too much to stop the wheels turning so you can continue KEEP buying and selling. 2. If possible sell the stuff you can replace the easiest first. 3. Smaller $$ books take up a lot of time and effort. Remember when buying in bulk, time is money and smaller less popular books get discounted much more. When investing try to sell smaller $$ books to buy bigger $$$ books. 4. If the book goes up rapidly, quite often there will be a correction. Sell during the mania rather than hold for the bragging rights. 5. Rarely buy from auction houses, unless its something you must have. Sell from auction houses instead. 6. Learn how to grade extremely well, even in this forum bad grading is quite common. 7. Quite often the grade given is wrong, look at the scan carefully. That sometimes includes CGC 7a. Modern book grading is especially more often wrong with BOTH under and overgrading. 8. Mycomicshop.com also has CGC census totals and can often be a faster tool than GPA or CGC. 9. White pages doesn't always mean a white back cover. Edited August 5 by Rip Robot Man, Larryw7 and Coverdeath
Popular Post mlansdown
I follow a flowchart of 4 rules that dictate all of my collecting pursuits: 1. If I find it for sale, and 2. If I like it, and 3. If I can afford it, 4. Then I buy it. Except I usually ignore rule #3. Robot Man, Off Panel, Larryw7 and 4 others 1
Kirby_Fan
Another one of my Comic hobby buying philosophies can best be described by this tune, if you replace the word "Smile" in the lyrics, with the word "BUY". Axelrod and fast eddie

DanJD
I grew up in the 90s. X-men vol 2 and the animated series was my jam. I am almost done collecting the x-men 90’s run with most story arc crossovers either in individual issues or grabbed a few omnibus books for bigger stories like Age of Apocalypse to fill in gaps. My graded books I am focusing on the more important issues and first appearances. I was not alive during the 60s and 70s, but the origin issues and stories of my favorite x-men and other marvel characters like Avengers, Punisher and Daredevil are my current focus.
