CGC 9.8 Hulk Annual #1

It's not my responsibility to prove stuff to you. The scammers are working over-time, and it's up to us to try & shut down their operation.

I'm sure Matt is following this thread....and is free to jump in at any time & put an end to the speculation.

There is indeed a "game" being played, and only those "playing" have any reason to defend it.

Got it. I should remain silent becuase another board member might have facts that they're unwilling to reveal. If everyone on both sides of every issue did that, it'd be awfully quiet around here.

i'm genuinely curious how someone would forget to put that Ped designation on the form. i assume that Matt did not send the old label back with the book, as the old grade is still in the Census

Indeed.

And I'm even more curious as to why, when it came back incorrectly without the Northland notation, he should feel the desperate need to flog it quickly rather than have the terrible error rectified. yeahok.gif

Say what you want. Just don't demand that I provide you with proof about things. I couldn't care less what you believe.

This is about putting pressure on those who are swindling collectors in hopes that they'll break.

These guys are laughing all the way to the bank.

Jeff.

You are more than welcome to have our opinion. Its great to have a balance in any thread. Any comment from you is appreciated.

My take on this (at the moment) is that Matt would appear to be have specialist knowledge gained about pedigrees due to what he has learned during the years of writing his book on pedigree's.

Due to this, I for one have a lot of respect for Matt and what he has done or is doing for the hobby with regard to the background of Pedigree's.

I guess that I am feeling let down at the moment due to the fact that someone with this specialist knowledge has forgotten to pass on information about one of the very things that he is writing about.

Its the old Great power, Great responsibility speil.

Writing a book on Pedigrees gains you some power on the subgect

Forgetting something about a Pedigree leaves you with some responsibility that deserves a wrap over the knuckles.

Regards,

Russs

Hey, Matt's explaination could be true. I mean I find myself all the time looking through a box of books and coming on some ones I have in real nice shape and think to myself "man, that's a nice book", only to later realize "of course it's nice you dummy, its the Church copy". Happens all the time (NOT!). In this case, we are not in a criminal trial so the amount of evidence required in much less.

Agreed. I'm just leaving open the possibility that he screwed up, and didn't realize his mistake until he was made aware of this thread, at which time he contacted the buyer to let him know he had the Northland.

Possibly, although I state again that it is his responsibility as resubmitter to ensure that the crucial pedigree information is maintained on the label, particularly prior to selling the book. Additionally, there is also the matter of the "lost" Joe and Nadia notation on the re-encapsulated/upgraded FF32.

I'm willing to continue to give the benefit of the doubt, but let's just say that I have grave doubts...

Couldn't agree more.

If, and I say IF, pedigree designations are being left off on purpose, then the theory has to be that a vanilla higher grade trumps (is worth more) than a higher grade pedigree book that is a known resub of a lower grade version. Thus.....

a) There is a perceived stigma (from the sellers perspective) attached to a resub, pedigree or not.

b) It is now impossible to verify resubs in the CGC census.

Cute.

Which to me represents the desire to squeeeeeeeeeeze every last nickel of profit out of any book, anytime, anywhere, regardless of original grade or pedigree. It means nothing. Just get the maximum buck any which way.

This is not a shock. I just don't want to hear altruistic comments about "for the good of the hobby". It's a shark tank and you're paddling, whether you admit it to yourself or not.

Why not address "probabilities" rather than "possibilities"? Anything is possible.

Could an expert on Pedigrees crack a Northland Hulk Annual 1...press it...resub it to CGC....get the book back without notation...list it on Ebay....and not have any idea it was the same Northland copy?

Possible? Yes

Probable? confused-smiley-013.gif

I have no doubt that Matt intentionally left off both the Manarino collection and Northland pedigree. The Manarino collection doesn't matter, it's a marketing ploy and I doubt if any one cares. The Northland pedigree is a different story but even though it may be shady and he's probably trying to conceal the resub, fact remains that it's his book and if he wants to sell it as a non-pedigree it's his choice. There's no law that says if I buy a pedigree book I have to sell it as such later. It would of course be to my advantage but you guys equating him leaving off a pedigree designation to what Ewert was doing is going overboard.

Why not disclose the pressing & keep the designation? Surely a 9.8 Northland copy of Hulk Ann 1 is worth more than a 9.6 Northland copy. insane.gif

See my post above. There must be some concern about it being identified as a resub. Which doesn't automatically mean it was pressed.

I don't know. His choice to make though. I automatically assume that anything he sells is pressed, at least anything worth more than $200. I seriously doubt that most people who know who he is would assume different.

Chris,

When this thread first started, I emailed Matt and asked "what the heck happened here?" He responded that he submits so many books, there's bound to be an occasional mistake. He added that he knows that the boards watch his books very carefully, and it simply wouldn't be worth it, even if he had the inclination, to try and slip something like this by anyone. This thread is very good evidence that he's right about that.
