Popular Post Robot Man
Picked this up at the flea market yesterday. It is a free monthly magazine with the goings on in the local antique world. Also auction results nationally on a variety of antiques. The cover just screamed out at me. I just had to know. Interesting article but what was of biggest interest to me was the full page article on PCH books. I have never heard of this collector or this auction house. Apparently, this auction happened beginning of Jan. Frankly, I never like seeing articles like this in the hands of “civilians”. Gives everyone the wrong idea. Sure makes it tougher on us flea market scroungers… Anybody here ever visit this library? Looks like the Sistine Chapel of comics. Those were some very desirable books, I wonder if the low-profile venue was able to obtain the prices they would have gotten on HA Clink or CC? Mr.Fantastic
Here's a link to that auction with final prices. Lots of White Mountain pedigrees mixed in, and some pretty high-end books sold. Potter & Potter Auction adamstrange

Do you think that the condition of the books deteriorated since the time they were purchased via Sothebys?

Do you think that the condition of the books deteriorated since the time they were purchased via Sothebys? It took me a few minutes to answer because: The sale was back in 1991 The auction catalog lots were ordered according to some secret sequence only understood by Jerry Wiest The tears I had to keep wiping away as I saw the amazing books and art that went for a pittance of what they would go for today I would think that the Frankenstein was pictured because it was graded nm and indicative of the high quality of that particular lot. It only graded a 7.0 and the WTOF 8, part of this same lot, only graded 8.5. The horror books were grouped into lots so it's certainly possible that some of these were lower graded items within the lot. It's also possible that some damage occurred over the years as 50s books are definitely more susceptible to damage than their "big" GA brothers from the early 40s. Popular Post zzutak
I recently had my raw copy of Scream Comics #3 certified. The inside covers and interior pages are snow white, and other features like era (1945), genre (humor), and cover markings (none) raise the possibility that it's a "lost" issue from the Vancouver Pedigree. I know there was at least one other issue from this title in the collection (Scream Comics #7 in CGC 7.5 white). Does anyone know who the original buyer was and/or whether he/she documented the collection with a list of the issues found? My understanding was the Vancouver books were submitted as a whole and then sold as a whole to Geppi. It's always possible that something inexpensive and not quite as high grade was left off, but I have not heard anything like that. zzutak

zzutak
On 4/24/2024 at 3:58 PM, adamstrange said: My understanding was the Vancouver books were submitted as a whole I think this is essentially correct. Most of the Vancouvers shown here and/or on Heritage have a CGC certification/serial number that begins with either 00785 (which dates to 2003), 07799 (which dates to 2007), or 09198 (which dates to 2014). The only CGC-certified copy of Scream Comics from the Vancouver Collection (Scream #7, shown below) has S/N 0779974016. It's interesting that the immediately preceding book from that invoice (S/N 0779974015) is now MIA -- which may indicate that it either could not be slabbed or was removed from its holder (with the label returned to CGC for deletion from the census). And then there's this description that Heritage included in their Nov 20, 2014 auction listing for Ellery Queen #1 ("From the newly discovered batch ..."): All very curious. Unfortunately, my detective skills are probably not strong enough to uncover the full backstory. Edited April 25 by zzutak
Popular Post Ameri
Here's a recent pick-up. Not comics, but original typewritten 7-10 page scripts submitted to Avon and Fox between 1948-1951 by writer Ken Fitch for Gangster and Gunmolls, Western Thrillers and Prison Break. Scans of the published pages are next to the scripts. buttock, royaluglydudes, Marty Mann and 8 others
