  1. I haven't read any of these newer mini-series. Mainly because I haven't heard great things about the writing. Right now I am trying to get through Batman Rebirth by Tom King and it is fair awful, IMO. I wish I had your enthusiasm for these new comics. I just don't. They are poorly written, IMO. If I remember correctly you are a DC fan, which I truly appreciate on this mainly Marvel collector board but honestly, bad is just bad. These comics are just too expensive to promote wasting money and time on.
  2. I know you are looking for a strange vintage shop set up but I have a modern shop set up that was truly odd to me, Newbury Comics. It was all pop culture toys and memorabilia thorougout the entire front of the store. In the back was a vinyl record section that was bigger and better placed than the comic section. Why does this strike me as odd, because the store has the word Comic in it, yet I took me a few minutes to find the dark little alcove it was shove in. If you are thinking Forbidden Planet has this set up, you would be mistaken as they have statues and memorabilia upfront but they have a large wall of new comics and many, many shelves of graphic novels. I guess that was what I was expecting. Newbury comics is a mall shop so it must appeal to the masses?
  3. When I go through the boxes, it feels like this: (I think I got this picture from someone here)
  4. @Reno McCoy I know where you are coming from. When I got back into picking up a few comics here and there a few years back, I grew tired of just boxing them. I purchased a desk easel and displayed the new comic or two for a while. I got to enjoy the cover for days or weeks after reading it. Didn't matter if it was a $50 GA book or a $3 modern. If I liked the cover I displayed it. Lately, I have been feeling disconnected again and I was planning on selling a big portion of my comics. I went through all my boxes and reorganized them. I reindexed my spreadsheet with the new locations and even did a little audit on my collection. I love maintaining spreadsheets and this just gave me joy at every turn: looking that the covers, re-reading an issue here or there, cataloging it in the spreadsheet, etc. Recently, I started scanning in boxes of comics. I did a couple of boxes and it is time consuming but very rewarding once completed. So while, I still want to lighten the load a bit, I just love my comics.
  5. I am so sorry for you loss, Tim. I don't post often here but if you need anything please don't hesitate to ask.
  6. I had to change my checking account with that Target fiasco several years ago. I still haven't shared my new bank account with paypal and don't plan on doing it either. When I do have money in the account that I didn't spend, I just do a check.
  7. I am 8 months behind you. I am not a regular poster though. These boards have definitely changed over the 10 years.
  8. I like the progression of the picture. Very nicely done!
  9. With this administration, as long as the stock is performing everything is all right. I am waiting for this government to do anything that benefits the little people.
  10. I believe the sale will continue until the first week of January? Not 100% sure but when it first was offered the expiration date stated January. I ordered twice using this deal with 20% off. I am almost finished building my New Teen Titans TPB run with this sale.
  11. Thanks for a fun giveaway, Tim. Have a great holiday!
  12. My goal is sell off at least one short box this year. I am hoping for two short boxes by the end of the year. I want to really thin the collection even more but I love what I have collected so selecting what stays and what goes is difficult.
  13. From a comic poster lot I picked up years ago. I love that Swamp Thing. This one I picked up last year on Ebay. The only comic related item I have hanging up is my World's Finest Gerber Photo Journal proof.
  14. I am finally making the plunge to start selling off a small portion of my comics. I am not doing an official sales thread but have put up a list in the Selling section. Anyone interested please PM. Thanks.
  15. I am looking to sell a portion of my collection. I would love to get rid of it in lots. So these are the runs I am selling. 16. I don't sell too much on ebay anymore but, I have done this many times if it sells locally. For the record though, there (is or was) a change tracker link on the auction. So anyone could see the change history of the auction. I never had anyone contact me through ebay's messaging system to sell locally. I have been contacted to see off of ebay and those I just ignore and block the bidder. To the OP, I would not have risk it either since the buyer contacted you through the ebay messaging system.
  17. My collecting is too niche. I don't know anything about the Marvel universe nor do I care to either. Which is why I rarely post here as these boards are very marvel-centric I collect mainly DC with some Gothic subculture inspired indies in the mix. I collect DC animated comics which rarely gets much attention buy comic readers as it is too kiddie. I should have Batman in common with comic fans but they tend to like the things about the Dark Knight that makes me cringe a bit. I like the Adam West and BA version over the Dark Knight Returns one. Honestly, I rarely find much in common with people in general lately. But it is great that this hobby is so vast, it can suite just about any niche that exists. That is extended to life too. I am not going to limit myself just because it isn't popular or current.
  18. I have tabs on my comic spreadsheet of various character's appearances in every comic so that I know what to still collect. It is so bad.
  19. Poison Ivy. At one point, I had most of her appearances but have since sold off runs like Suicide Squad, Secret Society of Super-Villains and Super Friends. Man that is alot of S title runs. Once N52 started, I stopped collecting comics but I still pick up the occasional PI cover. For comic runs, I wanted to collect all the DC animated series. I love those comics but honestly, I don't have the room for them all. In the past two years, I am considering selling my runs for the trades. Then I look at my lack of JLU and JLA full runs and want to get all the single issues. It is a sickness.

  21. I think he paid for advertising on Youtube. Her channel has 3 + million subscribers and gets over 1 million views on her first day of posting a new video. She used to work for Buzzfeed and created ladylike. So she already had a following. As for the comics, I am not sure what he purchased as you only see Origins and a few Batman hush comics. It literally was 5-6 books in the "good" pile. So I was baffled that the offer was over $100. When she mentions getting around $300 in they owned a store was ok but look at all that work they put into making a few bucks.
  22. I follow this youtuber and she had posted an auction video recently.
  23. Buffy the Vampire Slayer Child of the Hunt. 5th Buffy book in the past few weeks. They are quick fun reads.
  24. I think the problem is that writers have steered away from that traditional family entertainment writing style. Comics today are too adult and kid comics are well, too kiddie. From my experience, kids don't want to read something outside of their era. I can give you a list of superhero books that meet your scope. However, comics are a popular culture medium. They reference the current times they were written in and the artwork appears dated to newer, younger eyes. I haven't read these but I think they should be ok: Wonder Woman: The True Amazon https://www.amazon.com/Wonder-Woman-Amazon-Jill-Thompson/dp/1401249019 Any of the earth one books as these were designed for bookstore consumer Superman, Batman and Teen Titans- https://www.amazon.com/Superman-Earth-One-Comics-Numbered/dp/1401224695/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1509360871&sr=1-1&keywords=superman+year+one, https://www.amazon.com/Batman-Earth-One-Geoff-Johns/dp/1401232094/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1509360936&sr=1-1&keywords=Batman+earth+one, https://www.amazon.com/Teen-Titans-Earth-One-Vol/dp/1401259081/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1509360973&sr=1-2&keywords=teen+titans+earth+one
