  1. There are plenty of JSC books that are not worth more than cover. I figured this would be one of them since it is a fugly Lizard.......
  2. If you want to chase something a bit harder to find that should have potential for a run up next year, check out WW 178 or 179.
  3. Glad I ended up passing on it as well His skillz are wasted unless the cover features a gorgeous gal with a pink nose I used the same logic during the boxing week sale at a LCS in Christmas 2015 and passed on the ASM #688 Lizard variant for $5. I picked it up, took it in my pile to the till, and then left it there as I figured only his female covers would carry a premium..........should have looked up the prices on my phone first.
  4. That black outfit made him look slim, but he's 6' 2", 190 pounds, and relatively muscular out of it which I only know that because they showed him shirtless on HBO's "Girls" a lot. He's bigger than most Jedi or Sith from the films. The site I saw online had him at 6'2" and 178 lbs. When I was 15 and playing rep hockey I had a teammate that height and light weight. He broke his collarbone twice that season and was done with the sport.
  5. WB can't possibly screw this up. The time is right; this should be huge. They also found the perfect actress for the role - smart, gorgeous, and the right personality. This could present a RDJ-like problem for the studio down the road if/when they need to replace her as she will set the bar high for any follow on WW actresses.
  6. Exactly. He lost his mojo when everyone saw that he is just another brooding youth with daddy issues. It does not help that he looks frail enough to get blown over by a light breeze.
  7. What is the over/under on them having him kill Luke in a similar manner to Obi-Wan sacrificing himself?
  8. So which is the key Demon Bear book - NM #3 (cameo in hallucination) or NM #18 (1st full appearance)?
  9. Due to the TV shows, I think it is Flash #139 now. I wonder what will happen to that book when Reverse Flash shows up on the big screen?
  10. Suicide Squad hit the audience it was aiming for, which wasn't 30+ year old male comic collectors. This is why it did so well at the box office yet most boardies did not care for it. I thought it was a fun summer movie, just like the Transformers franchise, and enjoyed it. For my daughter, her friends, and most other younger females I know, it hit the right chrod and they saw it multiple times. This film resonated well with the younger (it is a sign of aging when you have to refer to 20-25 yos as young ) female audience and it showed in the final box office results.
  11. It depends on your start up circumstances. Realistically, PCs are the easiest way to stock back issue inventory. I saw it happen here with the store that is the best for comics in town in the mid 90s. The three owners were employees at another LCS that decided to strike out on their own. They picked a great location, but the biggest draw to get things going was putting their PCs in as initial back issue inventory. Nice Marvel and DC SA to current runs (including almost all of the big keys) always attract attention. If you are relying on files to get up and running, it is difficult to get things going as it takes time to attract file customers. Another question is how many of the struggling newer LCSs do not offer card games? It is tough to survive without Magic and other gaming revenue now.
  12. Interesting. I would also like to see some additional info on why the comic stores are struggling: 1) How many new stores have opened in the municipallity/region since 2009/2010? 2) What is the socioeconomic and demographic composition of the communities/municipalities that the stores are located in? We have had one new store (opened post 2010) close up here in Edmonton, another one close its second location (rent raised in mall led to closure), and there are one or two others that may be struggling as well due to the economy.
  13. Thanks for the heads up. I have not gone through the Superman and related box yet, but going through one of the indie ones I found the Batman #533 and Shadow of the Bat #53 DCU variants.
  14. Not if there is a 10 minute love scene with Margo Based on the rumors, Amber Heard would be a more appropriate choice for that scene........
  15. I am sure they can find a natural redhead or younger actress that looks good as a ginger to fill the role instead of Fox.
  16. Alternatively, maybe they are going to do a Birds of Prey movie separate from this one? I would love to see the other BoP characters on the big screen as well.
  17. Marvel has been out of ideas for a while now. Personally, I view them has having been in a downward swirl since the launch of the Ultimate lines way back in 2000. They really have not had anything like that since then. From a back issue sales perspective, there is way more demand for DC and Image post-2000 back issues at shows than there is for Marvel. Outside of Deadpool, there is no consistent recent modern back issue seller from Marvel. Sure, some of the key 1st apps sell well, but that can be said for all companies. Most post-2000 Marvels are just $0.50 - $1 bin books. As a collector that started out as an X-Men fanboy with UXM #211 being the first comic I purchased as a kid (I love that cover and still have my original beater copy), it is really sad to see how far the X-Franchise has fallen in funny books.
  18. Disney does not care re: how the comics are doing. TV and Movies are where the action and real money is. As long as comics are still printed under the Marvel banner they retain the underlying IP for the TV/Movie/video game franchises. Even a weak box office return likely generates more in revenue That being said, the quality of Marvel comics has been in a major downtrend for what, a decade or more now? Outside of the odd decent run on an individual book, most titles have been bad to unreadable. The approach they have taken on Mutant related books for the past couple of years in a failed attempt to pump up the Inhumans (again - Movie and TV driven), as well as Otto-Spidey and now Playboy-Spidey, and they have destroyed a lot of the long time collector base that they had for two of their three main (the Avengers being the other one) comic franchises. Add in the constant rebooting of all of their titles every couple of years, and it is not difficult to see whey their sales are flagging.
  19. I saw some cool $2.00 CDN cover pirce DCs in a collection last night that I may or may not land. They were 1988 books, but I can't remember the title right now. It was the first time I had seen $2.00 cover price books in a while.
  20. They are doing a fairly good job with Lucifer so far so I will give this one a chance as well.
  21. Just snagged a large Copper collection yesterday with a ton of new CDN newsstand variants in it. None of the big books, unfortunately, but still a bunch that I have not owned in a while which is nice.
  22. Just picked up a 3500 - 4000 book collection yesterday (nothing great, but it was cheap) and going through the first box tonight I found a small stack of Batman #521 DCUs. Do these carry any type of a premium yet?
