  1. I can't argue with this strategy. It just makes too much sense. I made the switch in mid to late 2000s when Marvel's Cinematic Universe took off and DC SA keys were dirt cheap in comparison. My problem was that I started selling them too soon when prices doubled instead of holding for a while longer.
  2. I am still waiting for Canada to invade and take over. Due to our inclement winters and smaller starting population, the walkers would have been fewer in number and easy to pick off with the winter snows slowing them. As a result, the country's infrastructure and industrial base should be fully functional, along with the military, and the bulk of the population would be fine. It would take a few years to make it south and clean out the walkers along the way, but sooner or later North America should all be covered by the Maple Leaf in the book.......
  3. To me, the great allure of GA is that there are a lot of books that you see maybe once or twice per year -- if that. Tracking them down is as much a matter of persistence and sleuthing as it is having the dough. That is why I stopped chasing GA in 2009, and I wish now that I had been more patient and just kept plodding along at a handful of books per year.
  4. Interesting choice for the female lead. I recognize her from watching Kickin It with my kids when they were younger. What has she done since then?
  5. We watched it on the weekend as a family and everyone liked it, except for my wife. My daughter thought the books were better, but she hopes they make the sequel (Hollow City? or something like that) as it could be a fun film.
  6. Cool printing error. You need to post it on the Valiant Fans boards ASAP and wait for the big offers to roll in.
  7. I wouldn't necessarily disagree with this. Dr. Strange was too... generic. And I had a hard time recognizing the character I grew up reading in comic books. It was an okay movie; not terrific but not bad. Luckily we are getting GOTG2 which should be different enough from the Marvel movie formula to make it interesting. I have to ask, have they introduced the sentient cape into the comic yet? It is too bad Marvel isn't embracing their history (I wanted Mandarin in Iron Man III) but instead are cowtowing to political correctness. We got Mandarin in Iron Man 3, and the more I see it on reruns the more I like the twist with the character.
  8. Did you leave the theatre? I didn't think so. Dr Strange was great. BvS was mediocre at best. And yet movie goers have voted the opposite with their hard earned dollars........ Dr. Strange met mixed reviews even with Marvel fanboys I know. I have not seen it yet since I do not care for Cumberbatch as an actor, but as I posted here earlier, the mixed reaction was to be expected due to the magic/fantasy theme. That being said, hitting over $650M worldwide was a huge win for Disney and will likely lead to more Dr. Strange which is great for the franchise.
  9. I wish I had waited a bit longer to sell off a lot of my multiples of Batman #155, 171, 181, and 189, as well as Tec #359, for another year or two. I was happy with the prices I got for them, but they seem to be taking another run up now. Tec #359 is another Silver Batman key that keeps on running up. I take it that the Batgirl appearance in the Lego Movie is causing the speculation as it should lead to a live action film appearance as well. When that happens, the book could jump again.
  10. Harbinger #1 was available and sold rapidly for about $8 in the late 1990s on Ebay. There were about 5 buyers who used $8 as their "floor", and who basically had no limit to the number they would buy, so it was generally $8 or more. Except for sellers who didn't realize they could easily get more than a dollar, it wasn't found very often in the bargain bins. I regularly saw Harbinger #7 and up in the bargain bins... with a few lucky finds of #3, #5, or #6... but rarely. The coupon in #1 - #6 is often cut out, and the spine is often split (#1 cover paper isn't great). CGC 8.5 sold for $72 this month, and there aren't many early 1990s regular issue books that can say that. CGC 9.6 is about $260, and the last CGC 9.8 was $750. They were also readily available in dust covered back issue long boxes from LCSs and local shows at $1 or less in 1999-2001 on a regular basis (along with all other pre-Unity, late run/last issues, and the Gold/Platinum/VVSS variants).
  11. They are tougher to find, but I have a few copies stashed away (along with newsstands of some other early issues). I am not selling them yet.
  12. If your Spawn #1 has a barcode on the cover, you can get $5. For the past three years I have been getting the following prices for Spawn #1 - $10 for VG to FN, $15 for VFs, $20 for VF/NM, and $25 for NM- and up. They sell very well at the local shows. Those are direct editions, I assume... and those are sweet prices. Yes, those are direct editions. If any boardies have a stack of direct Spawn #1s in VF/NM or better that they would like to part with at $5 apiece drop me a pm. I only have a dozen or so copies left and have had to start rationing how many I take to each show.
  13. If your Spawn #1 has a barcode on the cover, you can get $5. For the past three years I have been getting the following prices for Spawn #1 - $10 for VG to FN, $15 for VFs, $20 for VF/NM, and $25 for NM- and up. They sell very well at the local shows.
  14. As much as I like the cover to Batman #217, I would put Tec #395 on the top 10 list instead of it. It has a better story plus Adams cover & interior artwork. And then, if we are looking later Bronze Age, maybe Tec #470 (1st Silver St. Cloud) or Batman #475 (classic Joker fish cover).
  15. Are we talking from a value perspective or interior content/story perspective?
  16. Play the current Variant craze the same way the smart money did with the early-mid 90s Valiant/other variant bubble - flip the hot money variants and buy older keys with the profit.
  17. Do you need Hercules #1 or any of the Gargoyle issues? I know that some of those are in the collection.
  18. For most of the boxes, yes. I was only able to go through four of the boxes in detail. My decision to sell was simple - happy wife, happy life.......... If there is an AF #15 in there someplace I will not be happy.........
  19. Not sure as I have not gone through it all. The other boardie will have to check for that now.
  20. No, my best copies are 9.4s. As an update, the collection has now been sold to another boardie. Maybe he will post the CDNs for sale at some point.
  21. If anyone is interested in later run Jonah Hex or DC war books LMK as I just went through a box last night with a bunch of them.
  22. Regular books, or the specials, double sized, and annuals? (Keeping in mind that Marvel stopped printing Canadian price only books with their Sept. 86 books.) All the above. Still researching but it looks like my statement above is off as DC seems to a lot easier to find. Annuals (Easy to find) 1980-1988 Specials (Hard to find) 1984 - 1988 Double sized (?) Regular books (Easy to find) 1986-1988 Working on Marvel now. The single hardest Marvel is Thor 370. I've only ever seen two. I may have to take a trip to the Great White North next summer. See some chicks soccer and hit some comic stores. Giggedy! Just acquired a Thor #370 9.8, scans are now going up! Some monster tough books in grade. Link Nice pick up. Thor #370s are out there if you know where to look........
  23. So......is the 1:1000 variant for this book going to be a black and white ASM #300 Spidey image on the front that they can claim as a McFarlane variant?
  24. Awesome! The Rock is perfect for turning Black Adam from hero to a villain in a fall from grace type storyline. If they do the Black Adam movie right it will introduce the whole Shazam mythos and set things up for the Shazam film.
  25. I am fine with the results so far as I have more Harley #3s and GCS #1s than the other books.
