  1. So, $50 for a slabbed 9.8? That does not seem that bad. Raw copies are still in the $4.99 - $14.99 range depending on the auction.
  2. Aargh. My comment above was cut short by accident. My last sentence was supposed to be: It will be interesting to see how much AoU and next year's BvS bring in for product placement. Those two flicks should set the bar that others aspire to reach. Here is an interesting quip from an article re: BvS Product Placement: http://guardianlv.com/2014/10/batman-vs-superman-dawn-of-justice/ But the box office will not determine whether this movie is successful or not. It is ancillary products that will ensure the movie’s success. There were major concerns about the cost overrun for Man of Steel. Product placement, however, almost recaptured the entire cost of the film. Time Warner will surely implement a similar strategy here.
  3. For comparison, here is the B&B #28 4.5 that sold for $5500 (Lonestar Comics on eBay - they get some high prices):
  4. Damn.. didn't a 4.5 just sell for that ? This book confuses me. -J. Yup. Its a 1-1.25k point book right now all things considered. We need it to hit $2K per point.........
  5. It was brought up repeatedly in the Man of Steel movie thread. Well, all of the Man of Steel movie threads. And this is why the comic book and blockbuster movie genre will continue to thrive. The advertising/product placement fees cover a good portion of the cost of production or marketing of the movie. It will be interesting to see what the fees are for AoU 2 and then for BvS. Both movies should generate significantly more than Man of Steel. It will be interesting to see how high t
  6. Heritage is the place to sell SA and BA DC keys/semi-keys/hot books. (thumbs u
  7. It is more of a case of that "5.5" actually needing to be labelled properly as a 4.0/4.5 with that big of a piece missing. The price was fine if you look at it that way. I disagree with the way CGC is so lenient with pieces missing. I have a Strange Adventures #205 up on eBay that I was grading as VG with no takers as a raw book at local shows due to the missing pieces/chips. It came back as a 6.0 in a nice slab. Add in the apparent edge tear in the middle of the right side, what appears to be a color breaking crease in the bottom right corner, and a longer crease or tear (or scuff?) at the bottom staple and I am surprised this came back so high. FWIW, Clink limits the prices on all books by not providing a back cover scan. It looks like there is a bit of a bend/crease in the tip of the top left corner of the back cover on this B&B #28 (slabbing issue?). If I am spending a few grand on a book I would like to be able to see both covers. That is not too much to ask, is it?
  8. There is a pretty healthy spread between 9.6 and 9.8 on this book - my 9.6 ended on eBay last night with no takers at $69.99.
  9. Conversely, people that think AoU was great are the same people that are calling 8.0 books 9.4 in the PGM forum.
  10. That is why now is the time to pick up the DC SA 1st apps/keys/minor keys that have not jumped yet. Marvel SA books have pretty much all had their run up due to the TV and movie appearances and now you have to look at BA and CA books to find the hidden gems. DC books have a lot of room to make up.
  11. Yes, they have. I was both disappointed and happy with my submissions from this summer as well: disappointed with the books I subbed to flip that did not receive gift grades BUT happy with the ones I wanted to keep as they are accurately graded.
  12. CGC is just bad with this book for whatever reason. Label ain't always right especially on higher graded copies of this book. CGC generally goes a touch easier on books that are notoriously difficult, Whether on purpose or they just unconsciously recognize it to be a tough book is hard to say. That's been my experience when submitting books that are impossible in grade. True, but look at Andy's copy vs. this one. There is no comparison in which one had the tighter grading.
  13. CGC is just bad with this book for whatever reason. Label ain't always right especially on higher graded copies of this book. True enough, but they were pretty bad with loose grades all through 2013. I had a lot of gift graded books from the 2013 through early 2014 timeframe that I sold as a result of that. I still have a couple (check out the Batman #181 in my sig line as an example) that I kept since my entry price was so low and they are harder to find in higher grades.
  14. My guess is that a lot of the new additions will be "teased" in just a cameo scene or two here or there and that is it. Similar to what Marvel has done with some of their flicks. As far as too much in one movie, Avengers and GotG had multiple heroes in their movies and it worked. The key is to focus on one main threat instead of multiple villains. As we have seen with the Spidey franchise, it does not work well.
  15. That is one weak 8.0. Andy's copy is a tight 7.0, and the other is just a strict 6.5, maybe 7.0, dressed up as an 8.0. I would like to request that grading team for all of my future submissions....... Looking at when it was graded, the significant overgrade makes sense. CGC was in a looser cycle back then.
  16. Batman #368 is starting to run up a bit thanks to the Jason Todd/Red Hood hype. Wow - the last 9.8 copy of #357 sold for $650. That book has spiked big time thanks to the rumors.
  17. Looking at the action in the Pedigree Auction, Batman #121 is moving up a bit as well.
  18. Congrats - that is a great price.
  19. I was at the same point earlier this year until I organized it in two large groups - one to sell at the spring shows in $1 boxes and the other group that I sold to my LCS. It was kind of fun pulling keys out in multiples from boxes, though.
  20. Interesting. That is just a lowly direct edition as well. I am too lazy to look, but there should be a bit of a premium for the newsstand copies, right? Taking a quick look at GPA, there was a 9.6 Canadian newsstand copy that sold for $175 in July, which is double the last direct copy ($81). Looks like I will have to send some more in to see if I can land another 9.8 or two...........

  22. Wow. Looks like I will have to dig mine out and post them asap.
  23. As long as they keep a steady stream of movies coming out I do not see them pulling back to far. In fact, it could end up being similar to the relatively abundant movie related books like Avengers 1, X-Men 1 or IH 181 - big jump for movie then slow and steady (except for IH 181 in low to mid grades - they have gapped up again over the past year).
  24. The last GPA 9.6 sale was at $600. I wonder if it can hit $1000 closer to the movie as well. That would likely mean $3000 for a 9.8.
