  1. anyone have an estimated print run on this book? 350,000- 425,000 copies? Uncanny X-Men was one of the, if not the, top selling comic from any company at that time. It was shortly after this thhat the stories started to go out of control, IMHO, and that hurt the book. It still sold well, but that stupid going through the mirror storyline build up and afterwards killed all the momentum coming out of the Mutant Massacre as far as I was concerned as a X-Men reader and collector back then.
  2. 282 has gne up in value? It's been quarter bin fodder for years. Over the past couple of months, I've sold 3-5 raw NM Uncanny #282s for $8-10 each. It is almost up to New Mutants (vol 1) #1 price levels.
  3. I agree... Batman Adventures 12 was released between Batman 497 and Batman 500 and only a couple of months after the return of Superman (#500, the die-cut covers, etc.). The industry was still riding high. Stores were starting to go under up here by the end of 1993. I started university that fall and two of the stores I used to go to prior to that in the area closed down. Even with those highly speculative books, you could see the unwinding of the market beginning, especially the small card stores that went into to comics as well. They got wacked first due to the card market cratering before comics. However, there were a couple of comic stores here that went under early as well. In the case of one of these stores, the owner had a lot of good early SA Marvels, but he did amateur resto on them. In 1999 or 2000 I had a chance to look at the stock he sold off when he closed up - the person he sold them to paid top dollar and was screwed royally due to the resto. With the other one, it worked out well for me over a multi-year span as the owners had a chain of used book stores in addition to a larger comic store. When closed, they moved the leftover comics to the basement of one of the used book stores. I cleaned up as the pulled out back stock over the years, especially with OA. (thumbs u
  4. Ok, it's hard to say that 44, which is $50 in guide in NM-, sells for way more in 9.6/9.8 slabs and even fetches a nice $25-$50 raw, is really being undervalued or overlooked...if that book is in a dollar box it is a big mistake (OTOH, the same cannot be said for other parts of the Judas contract run, which seem to be ignored...I just fished the Teen Titans annual part out of a dollar box, though it wasn't so sharp) 39 OTOH, copies up on ebay for 99 cents, certainly fits the criteria of what I was looking for. "Last Robin" I guess...that'll work. 40+ years of being Robin. Not to mention, the Perez run on NTT was tremendous and there SHOULD be a few more semi-keys/break-out books in there. So while we're there, though it's getting harder to find them in dollar boxes and the guide does have them at a premium price, ebay does not really: New Teen Titans 10 (2d Deathstroke) -- Probably should be more love for his second app, except he's not on the cover Still ignored: 23 (1st vigilante (outside of costume) and 26 (1st terra) -- definite dollar box fodder 34 (4th deathstroke - on cover) -- dollar box fodder I guess the problem is there is a ton of these books out there as it was a very popular series. On the other hand, this has never stopped anything else from popping. What about #26?
  5. 1990 - 91, yes. By 1993 stores were starting to fold and a lot of speculators were dropping out. I know a ton of baseball card collectors that bought heavy in 1990 - 1991 but were out by 1993 as they were losing their shirts in both cards and comics.
  6. This is easy - Canadian newstand variants of most Copper keys or hot books in 9.0 or better.
  7. For the month it lasted, the DC 3D covers were a great gold mine. I walked into a Hastings book store today and they still have a few DC 3D cover books on the shelf for cover price. Just proves your point on how quickly they died.... All books are always cover price at Hastings. They did die, but a book just being cover at Hastings has nothing to do with it. Hastings just doesn't know/care about their comic book section. That's the reason I ended up with 20 copies of Sixth Gun at the height of it's value. +1 on the Sixth Gun selection at Hastings. I'd bet there are still copies of #1 at some locations that missed the bubble completely. My brother and I easily moved through 20 copies as well. And I just found out about the Hastings store chain about a month ago through a Facebook page. They don't have any stores in Illinois (where I moved here from). And my point was that there are still DC 3D cover books on their new release rack. They still had some last week at the LCSs here in town as well, but it great fun flipping them while it lasted. 8. It is the best modern book right now. If/when Snyder leaves the next writer will have their hands full trying to match it.
  9. The one current book/run that will stand the test of time.............New 52 Batman by Snyder/Capullo. (thumbs u
  10. Good point. Right now the Image/Indie craze reminds me of the early 90s boom where the first generation Image, Valiant, Ultraverse, etc. were all the rage and then fizzled. Over time quality books that can build a fanbase will survive, while the others will die off.
  11. It was over 100 last year/ early 2013 perfect example of how you can tell how new someone is to the modern game. sold my 9.8ss last year for $250 i believe. A lot of the formerly scorching hot 2012 Image #1s have plateaued and pulled back now, with some totally sewering (e.g. Revival) after the TV/Movie/etc. speculative peak passed. It will be interesting to see how they hold up longer term. Put all of this in the perspective of "Where was The Walking Dead at after 15 issues???" "Where was the overall indie market at after 15 issues of The Walking Dead?" Or even put better, where was Spider-Man, X-Men, etc. after 15 issues?? People need to see these stories and series fleshed-out before the true value of them is revealed. The difference being that WD and Saga have a widespread appeal that keeps growing, while MP does not.Without this, the title will not take off. I dropped it quickly - I liked the storyline but hated the artwork - and I was not the only person I know to do the same thing.
  12. But, it could be really rare like the Hulk #377 3rd print.........
  13. It's a very broad market for Harley, maybe as broad as we have ever seen. What are the odds on this book being bought by a boardie since it is a later printing..........

It will be interesting to see how they hold up longer term. True. However, MP and Saga were both scorching without without any of that hype. Imagine if they did. Both have pulled back from the highs, though, with MP falling further. The beginning of this year was great for making $$$ with moderns. The only run that I have had pass the early 2013 peak is New 52 Batman. While BINs were being hit at $199.99 for Saga #1-7?8? back then, now you can land the entire run to date for well less than that.

  17. Cap 14 vol 5 is the money book in the run due to the cover so far. It will be interesting if #6 can surpass it due to the movie, but I doubt it. In any case, scour your LCSs - I have been plucking both books for $4 apiece for a while now as they put out back stock each month.
  18. Were they brand new releases or the copies of books returned by the stores/distributor and then dumped via Costco?
  19. Exactly. There are tons of NM #98s and ASM #300s out there, but they continue to creep up. I expect the same to continue with the bigger Copper keys, just like it has for the plentiful BA keys. FWIW, the first collection I have picked up in the past 15+ years with a BA #12 was this summer. Granted, I primarily chase GA/SA/BA collections, but none of the collections with Copper books I have acquired over the years have had this book in it. There are plenty of NM #87s & 98s, and McSpideys (inclding 300) to go around, though.
  20. Good point! I'm using the Valiant Reader as the comparison because it is beside BA #14 on the list, but it's possible that Valiant Reader was for sale for multiple months and the Sept. 1993 number might be only a portion of those 225K. So, I'll use the other Valiant books (regular monthly) to estimate the value of the index in the Sept. 1993 list. I get 5,250 copies per index point using the average of 10 regular monthly issues from the list. That puts X-Men #306 at 525,000 copies... and Batman Adventures #14 at 89,250 copies. Doing a similar calculation for Batman Adventures #15 and #16 results in: BA #15 = 87,000 BA #16 = 83,250 So... using these numbers from 1993, it's likely that Batman Adventures #12 sold around 100,000 (most likely in the 92,000 to 96,000 range). These would be direct editions only... and the newsstand numbers would be separate. Seems like a reasonable estimation of BA #12 being an 90K - 100K book. Nice work. If that is the indeed the case, then the Costco packs make me wonder how many copies were actually bought in stores in the end.
  21. I thought that someone posted in this thread earlier that the print run was likely half of that?
  22. I was fortunate enough to pick up these this summer for a grand total of $12 - one BA 12 and the Mad Love in a collection at $4/book and a second BA 12 from a LCS for $4 in the bins. I have another copy of Mad Love and BA Annual 1 in another box that I snagged in a Clink lot last winter for cheap as well.
  23. Looks like you were close with this statement seeing as #7 is not scheduled until January 2014.......
  24. As much as I am a fan of BA12, ASM 300 is a much better money maker for me as a dealer at shows. Basically, you put up a copy, it sells for a profit, then you put out another at s higher price and it sells, etc. I am williwng to buy NM copies of ASM 300 for up to $150 as I can get $200-$250 for them raw at shows. BA 12 is spikng now, but I am expecting a pull back on it once the new series hype dies down.
