Seeing at the beginning of a sales thread "US ONLY"
I get there is a little more work involved but all Canadian boardies do the same work while shipping books to the US so c'mon guys do the little bit of extra work required and increase your sales.

Amen. And just one more reason why I love diving into sales threads owned and operated by Canadians!

RIP Jazzy John - the greatest Spider-man artist and on the Mt. Rushmore of Marvel artists. My only SS slab is an ASM #50 you signed for me. I will treasure it forever.

Yes, this is correct as well. There were several large restoration projects ahead of me still, and at that point Mike was the only person who could do the work in house for many of the steps required (some of these projects required leaf casting and CT on every single interior wrap. He did get more staff for key roles, but as I mentioned before some of these workers didn't pan out well and there was not time/resources to train new employees. My TOS39 above was basically a disintegrated 0.5 book that was fully split and needed a good deal of reconstruction). From what I managed to hear, it sounds like several of the projects that were taking time were very intensive and not limited to covers only (and depending on his equipment setup it might not even be possible to work on multiple books at the same time for things like leaf casting, hence this back up moving slowly and why he stopped taking on any new restoration jobs and is only focusing on pending projects)
I dabble in restoration/conservation now as a side hobby (Partially thanks to Hero Restoration sharing some of his secrets to get me on the right path) and totally think that is where I'll stop with it - a hobby; MAYBE only offering to do the most very basic of work (tape removal, split seals, dry cleans) as a service in the far future (but after my last pro-bono job I did for a fellow board member here I'm feeling very disillusioned about any comic work since it basically went all wrong and I feel horrible about the outcome)Don't give up on the conservation efforts, Eddie. I'm very happy with the work you did on my two comics.

I remember when he first started, he was practicing on expensive books and keys. People here suggested he scale back and experiment with beater books first.
After reading those threads I'm actually shocked and amazed that he ended up with a thriving resto business with multiple employees and locations that lasted nearly 14 years before imploding.

I agree with the previous comments re: his professed desire to focus solely on pressing. Who in their right mind would ever want to send their comics to this tire fire?

If someone took my AF 15 and $3.2k in cash and didn't return either they would soon find me knocking on their door, even if I had to fly across the country to do it. And no one wants an angry Canadian knocking on their door.

Once again, I don't know the details of the AF15, I'm just conveying the experiences and going-ons that I do know of recently. He does have an obligation to return all property (obviously), but how long it takes and the legal recourse each person has depends on the contracts they agreed to when starting the project (If you sent him a major key I recommend you gather up everything you have in writing, specifically timelines and most importantly payment obligations). I'm aware of several major keys that are in process of restoration, and still need work done, so if he was to return them now they would be in an incomplete state (which some customers are demanding full refunds on, so I'm assuming both sides are fighting this - this isn't my experience personally but I totally get why this would become a frustration problem for everyone involved and ain't my fight, nor can I defend anything I have no knowledge on).
When I submitted one of my first book he was clear it could take several years for restoration, so that expectation was already set for me on that project, though in the recent books case it is now exceeding the time frame we initially discussed and am having to keep on him to finish it.Restoration on a single comic can take several years?

Seems he just threatened to hold onto my books even longer should he get a call from a lawyer. My friend with the FF 5 has worked in law enforcement and is prepared to call the local PD. A class action suit would be best, if we could find more people who have books out with him. I posted in the Facebook CGC group, with 33k members and not one person, aside from someone who has a book out since 2018 (!) that needed extensive restoration (and who didn't even seem fazed by it) responded.
I hope you don't mind me giving some advice, but don't waste any money on an attorney, they are not worth it. All they want to do is charge you and they're not going to get anything more than you can do yourself which is get your books shipped. I really don't like attorneys;; they speak to you like bullies, and it has the opposite effect on me,. Once I hear from one of them to the back of the bus that client goes. For some reason they think vinegar works better than honey, I guess I just don't understand lawyer speak. Even my own attorneys are that way, I'd rather see money go to my favorite charity and break my back to solve the problem myself. If that makes any sense.
Sounds like he's heard from a lot of attorneys!

He submitted the book and it was mishandled by Desert Wind. He got the back and forth from Desert Wind. One day he discovered there was mold growing on the book. While we were walking around NYCC he showed me the book. (Which basically narrows his identity down to one of about four people here.). I had my suspicions as to what happened so I asked if I could borrow the book and bring it over to CGC while he was waiting on a signing. I spoke to CGC and then later myself and the other boardie spoke with someone who is higher up on the CGC food chain. He leaned toward the possibility of my assessment (using my words carefully) of what probably happened.
The book had signs of blunt force crumpling along the corner and the spine. It looked like Desert Wind damaged the book by dropping it and then crumpling that area. Then they had the book pressed which was outside the board member's instruction to cover the damage up. Whoever did the press job did a terrible job, did not completely dry the book after steaming it or whatever they did and then fast tracked it through CGC. The book then started to grow mold along the edges of the book.
It is important to note that no other book in the owner's collection had mold on any of his raw or graded books.
These are his pictures. (duh dum - felt there needed to be a law and order thing there for some reason)
CGC did not like what they saw and took the book back at no charge and had it cleaned and pressed by CGC and then returned to the rightful owner.
That mold effect would look really cool on a slabbed Swamp Thing #1...

House of Mystery 204
CGC 9.4 WHITE
Tough book...to purchase at least. Not much sales data.
A 9.2 White sold on Clink a few months ago for 280. A 9.6 sold in April for 1320.
Anyway, real nice book. A board asked if I was selling it a few months ago but I can't remember or find our DM's. I will give him a day to see this then it's up for grabs.
Let's go 550.00

I will guess this comic would receive a 1.8 from CGC. Still a great-looking comic, congrats!

My favorite "protest" toward US only sales threads was a few years back when @thirdgreenham created a sales thread that only shipped to Canada.
