  1. For years, the late Gary Arlington of the San Francisco Comic Book Company kept this cartoon from Playboy magazine posted by the cash register.
  2. I will be looking for the finest copy of JImmy Olsen 44.
  3. Brian Peets A1 Comics has submitted comics to CGC for me. I am certain Harley and Bunky can too as well as other dealers at this wonderful thriving convention.
  4. The 1957 Atlas Implosion was caused by Goodman deciding to use American News Company as the distributor, ANC closing down, and Goodman forced to use Independent News, owned by DC, as its distributor. Marvel used Independent News through 1968, 1957 Atlas Implosion
  5. Before moving to Texas, John used to own a comic book store on Main Street in Alhambra, CA. When I visited my aunt, I would park my car by her apartment building and walk over.
  6. Thanks for sharing the photo of John Barrett holding EC Tales of Terror Annual #2. John, Beerbohm, and Bud Plant opened Comics & Comix on Telegraph Ave in Berkeley in August 72. I started as a freshman at Berkeley in April 1973 and spent most of my disposable income at their store. Sadly, John passed away in 2001.
  7. I had some old brochures and a paperback book that reeked of cigarette smoke. I tried stuffing the brochures in a sealed box with baking soda, but could not get the smell out. What finally worked was hanging the brochures on a clothesline out in the sun for a couple of days. Remember that leaving the paper out in the sun will fade some items. Consider laying the art on a plastic sheet with the back facing the sun may work. I also hung the paperback book on the clothsline, which got the smell out. I tried clothes dryer sheets, but disliked the perfumed smell.
  8. First time in years that I did not have to cook.
  9. Robot Man, Really enjoying your posts. The EC story was "Tain't the meat, it's the humanity from Tales of the Crypt 32. Punchline Dark Mysteries 10 cover reminds me of my favorite Spider pulp.
  10. Terry, I am driving down Friday and may be able to drag our buddy Nan. I already booked my room at the Ayres with the low convention rate.
  11. From the article below, " The firearm company of the same name wanted to share revenues with the team for using the name. Team President Roy Hofheinz wanted no part of revenue sharing so he hired an unnamed artist to begin concepts of a new name and identity for the 1965 season when the Domed Stadium was scheduled to open. 12. I still call them the Colt .45s and remember hard throwing Turk Farrell.
  13. Most of the sale pending books are auction books that are awaiting payment. Even after payment is received, the books show sale pending a really long time. The Exchange is frustrating at best, since in the early days, the availability was not regularly updated. I was zero for five at one point. I spoke to Douglas Gillock personally at NYCC about a book that I was interested on the Exchange and ended up buying it.
  14. Robot Man Did you manage to snag any World Series tickets? They are going for $850 and up on stubhub. I last went to the World Series at $125 back in 2002. In 2012, game 1 tickets were $500 nose bleed seats and $1.2k nice seats. I passed. You can add plenty to the junk pile for $850.
  15. I have visited the store many times. You have to walk up a narrow staircase to even get into the shop, which is located on the second and third floors. I was last there on Saturday.
  16. Visiting friends and hanging with The Godfather of Comics GATor.
  17. Sorry about the upside down pictures, but can’t edit on phone.
  18. Illegal gas hookup (stealing natural gas), cheating employees out of a fair wage, and messy divorce. Katz’s Deli is better anyway. Wherever you eat, those sandwiches will cost over $20.
