Recommendations for books on comic book history?
BitterOldMan replied to Phish&Comics's topic in Comics General
I really like TwoMorrows Publishing's American Comic Book Chronicles. I have six volumes available, 1950s, 1960-64, 1965-69, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. The book covering 1940-44 should be out soon. Currently on sale on their website. I have met the owner John Morrow at various comic book conventions. http://twomorrows.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=95_94 -

You can't beat Space Western, which features cowboys, Nazis, space ships, and nukes from Mars. One of the issues, 45, includes an appearance by Adolf himself. Space Western 44 shown below.

A tough book with cover drawn by sleaze artist, Eric Stanton, who shared a studio with Steve Ditko. Check out the Spider-Man costume. -

My best buy at Terry’s Cal Comic Con was two books on snakes by Tri-ColorBrian. He was even nice enough to autograph them for me. -

You will likely have to travel out of SF to find decent back issues. I actually live in the center of SF among syringes, feces, and homeless. -
Each year, NYCC changes the dates on which to purchase tickets. Dates are likely to change again. IN 2018, Presale tickets were available 6/10/18. Presale means that attendee was Fan Verified in 2016 & 2017. Open sales took place 7/15/18. In 2017, Presale tickets were available 4/29/17. Open sales took place 5/13/17. Best to get Fan Verified ASAP, where you create an id to purchase tickets.

California Comic Convention 2019 ( CalComicCon)
BitterOldMan replied to TerrysComics's topic in Comic Events
I really enjoyed visiting the Nixon Presidential Museum. The displays were very informative, objective, and very educational. You can actually walk through his home of his birthplace and tour Army One, the helicopter used by Nixon after his resignation.- 125 replies

Two toys that I never got, but dreamed of owning are 1961 Robot Commando from Ideal 1965 James Bond Road Race Set from Gilbert. This set sold for a whopping $35 in 1965, In the rush to meet Sears demand to get the set out by Christmas, most sets were defective and returned, causing Gilbert to go bankrupt.

I loved my King Zor from 1962. My late father really went out the way to purchase the toy for me. When you shot the tail with the dart gun, King Zor would spin around and shoot a little yellow ball at you. I stored the toy at my parents' house. My mother tossed all my childhood toys. The King Zor was still in the original box. My mother also tossed my Marx Electro Shot Shooting Gallery
