I am not the typical OA buyer as I rarely buy anything and what I do buy is usually in the $500 range. I knew the Death: the Time of Your Life post card art was coming to auction and it is my favorite piece as I used that post card as a book mark for over a decade. So I decided I would save up a bit and take a stab at it; I very foolishly thought 5K would have given me a decent shot since it was a smaller piece and only used in promotional advertisements.

I am at least glad I found out early that I was being naive... lol.

I just wanted to laugh at myself a bit and was truly shocked how much the final was...55k before BP

  2. I wanted to like this movie so much but felt that it was just too drawn out; I enjoyed the second half of it the the entire first hour of the movie was a struggle. I cannot imagine the directors cut will "fix" this like the Snyder cut of JL did, but I am willing to give it a shot.

I don't think the comics have any legs; at ebay prices preorders for CGC 9.8s are only between $70 & $90 depending on the variant.

Grader Notes on a 9.8?  Can you share what was written?  Sure it would have been nicer to get it for the 9.6 :)

Not sure why this wasn't pressed out, unless it happened after from being improperly handled. It got a 9.8 and it is signed so it will never be cracked out (and I wouldn't recommend it to be).

In theory a 9.6 without grader notes should be for an obvious defect; unfortunately I am oblivious to what is "obvious" and would have really appreciated noted what was wrong.

Just for the sake of argument though all three of these were previous 9.6 universal slabs without any grader notes; and I took a flyer on CGC pressing due to the 50% off in November after not having anything pressed by them in 7+ years after some pretty disastrous results.

To assist next year I plan to make a google doc that sledder can use to more easily track what is available during the raffle. It will be viewable by everyone (via a google doc link) but only have edit permissions to a couple people. Once a prize is selected sledder can place an "x" in the cell which will highlight in red the entire row showing it is no longer available. The selected by box can either be entered manually or a name selected from a drop down menu.

I cobbled this together in about 5min and will polish it as the year progresses (using this past years items as a test); once fully created it can be used over and over again without any problems.

My goal is to make it as simple as possible but if anyone has suggestions let me know.

If they're in the official printed binders, and held in by bars, they might be worth more.  If they are the official binders, those might be worth as much or more than some of the magazines themselves.

If these are the binders and they are clean and without rust then they are probably worth more than the magazines. A group of 7 of them sold for $50 last week, they were stated in the auction as being in "great condition" when asked for more pictures and if the bars had rust, the seller didn't reply. A single one with rust, stains, and damage sold for $30 in November which tends to be the average given the usual condition.

    Jim Lee Signature books: Shipped

    Remarq/Sketch: still SFG

CCS: Finally moved to SFG (with 1/3 check in date)

I haven't used CGC's pressing in over 5 years but I sent in some 9.6s so I am not super concerned when they destroy them like previous, plus the 50% was worth a shot.

Signature only books: completed and shipped 1/2 (arrived in hand 1/4)

    Remarq/Sketch: Still sitting in SFG

CCS: signed, completed by CCS, checked in by CGC 1/3 as SFG, updated to GEI 1/4

What did the current owner do wrong? He claims he bought it at an auction.  If so, it is his. It's no different than buying a repossessed car or an abandoned locker.  I can't imagine this going anywhere in a court.

Never said he did anything wrong and the object of bringing suit isn't to take it to court as I stated above (as well as it being morally questionable).

Given the ebayer's response it would seem he is used to being in possession of other peoples lost items through legal means. I am sure he has faced many empty threats over email given said response to OP and has kept perfect asset receipts to prove beyond the needed preponderance of evidence that his attainment of the art is as he explained.

It is just an option given the value of the art, though a salacious one.

It does seem that the temperature of who is in the right concerning ownership has changed since the same thing happened with the buying of lost mail and original art (I believe stolen enroute to Heritage) that ended up in Southern Missouri (Sikeston mail outlet IIRC)

Either it's Briva listing with a consignment or someone taking the photos and listing something they don't have

It is a compromised account from a scammer; all book photos are from other previous listings. 82k items listed within 4 hours via a script that is ran once they have access to your account.

  10. I am not going to say this is the correct way to do things as it is morally grey if not outright wrong; but OP could easily weaponize the court system to assist in the return of the art.

Assuming your pockets are deeper than the ebayer (whom came across as a jacka ss with his response) your attorney can send a letter of intent and various preservation of evidence letters as a scare tactic. Since technically one of the parties has not been made whole and they know where the items are a police report can be filed, both will be used to support the initial civil litigation against the Ebayer. The goal would be to settle and get the art returned (compensating the ebayer for original purchase fees and some additional on the top) or drown the them in legal fees and the quagmire of the courts while they are on the hook of keeping the item unsold and safe until completed.

Jim Lee signatures moved from GEI to G/QC today.

No movement on remarq/sketch; still sitting in scheduled for grading

No movement on CCS; had two graded 9.6s and submitted them during the 50% off so no real loss when they are destroyed by CGC learning how to press a book by smashing it with their foot in the parking lot.

Was wondering why you used the words "post card art", so I went and looked at the dimensions on HA. It's  6.25" x 10" so the image itself is a bit less in size than a regular sheet of US letter paper, but at least it's bigger than a Bolland sheet of tracing paper prelim... displayable, but smaller than a regular image on 11x17.

The art was used on promotional post cards, my LCS had stacks of them (both the white/black & purple/black checkered background). I used one as a bookmark for a decade so was hoping for a shot at the OA.

  13. There isn't really a definitive history of each pedigree, just short generic sales blurbs. The Church books have probably the most information available, but even book lists of what is in the pedigree are not shared to the general public.

CGC over the last 20 years have become the de-facto curator of pedigree's and they have been very poor stewards of that responsibility.
