  1. I'm one of those crazy people who believes that when a character first appears it's his first appearance. That doesn't mean it will be his most valuable appearance, or the one that people want most, but it does mean it's his first appearance.
  2. I agree wholeheartedly. The writing of the Golden Age Marvel writers like Stan Lee had absolutely no influence over the Silver Age Marvel writers like Stan Lee.
  3. With the tear in the upper right and the crunch on the lower left I’m closer to 6.0-6.5.
  4. Whenever I think of greatly loved Sci Fi covers I think of the Frazetta Buck Rogers Famous Funnies covers. The only problem is the only one of these that is largely blue is #210 which is wonderful, but not one of the ones that are most coveted:
  5. I agree with most of your post. But you and I have a very different memory about this. I remember him refusing to talk about his past issues and trying to focus on current work. I even remember him storming off the set during one interview.
  6. I watched it last night with my kid. Overall it was an above average movie. Maybe 6/10. It was a bit too long for my taste and Batman was a bit too mopey for my taste. My son said it would have worked better if they had a teenage Batman with the way he was acting and I can’t disagree. The redeeming feature was that he realized that being this mopey vengeful hero wasn’t going to make the city a better place and he had to give it hope instead. Interested to see where they go with this if they do a sequel.
  7. This is where I am. A F/VF looks pretty good. No major creasing staining or such. And it’s something collectible rather than investable. I’ve never been a label chaser though.
  8. What is that in English? I'm hoping that doesn't mean that it would be leaving HBO Max for it's own streaming service, but since I don't speak Hollywood business lingo I'm not sure.
  9. I'm another first time (sales) customer of MCS. I had a bunch of comics that I didn't need in my collection any more for various reasons and sent them off a couple weeks ago. Conan was excellent in helping me price some comics that were not sold that often which resulted in me getting more, even with the commission, than had I taken a flier on a price here on the boards. A chunk sold two weeks ago when I started. Then I dropped them around 10% after a week and another bunch sold. So far I've sold around half (and all but 2 of the most valuable ones). I think I'll play around with the two more valuable ones and put the other ones in an auction if they don't sell this week. Over all very happy.
  10. It's so funny that DD 158 was selling for double what Hulk 181 was, and ASM 129 was completely irrelevant, a 25-cent bin book. Back then, the market was much more artist driven as far as hot books...especially popular new artists like Miller or Byrne. Yeah I owned a store in the later 80's and collecting was still all contributor based or run based. It wasn't until card shop owners started getting interested and brought the idea of "rookie cards" into comics that "first appearance" started to become the trend. All those great keys that came into my store would be traded out for runs of Miller Daredevil and Byrne X-Men that I could actually sell in my store. Back then Daredevil #16 was hot as John Romita's first work on Spider-Man and Marvel Team Up #53 was hot as Byrne's first work on the X-Men.
  11. I was just going through some of my old pm”s to find the cost basis of some comics I’m selling on mycomicshop and was looking at some of the comics I bought (Moon Knight 1-6 in 9.6 for $100 total. Daredevil #1 in 6.5 for $1400). And some I couldn’t quite pull off (FF #1 and Avengers #1 in 6.0 for $12k).
  12. It’s amazing how that comic fluctuates. The yearly high is more than twice it’s low almost every year.
  13. Oh, and just like George (gpa owner) @jhm(gocollect owner) is a member too. (Though it looks like he hasn’t been around for a few months)
  14. As @ADAMANTIUM says it’s been around for years. Many think it has a nicer interface than GPA, but since it hasn’t been around as long it doesn’t have nearly as much historical data. I’m also not sure if they have as many sources right now for data. I have a subscription (as well as a GPA subscription). I mainly use it for a simple round up of value for insurance purposes. It tries to figure a fair market value for as many comics as it could reasonably give.
  15. Are you asking why they are going? For advertising. Are you asking why collectors should bother going at all? Don't ask me. I stopped going to comic book conventions years ago when they had more monster energy drink vendors than people who were actually selling comic books.
  16. I can see how this would be frustrating, but to be honest it's not that much different than Metropolis, ComicLink, or Heritage showing up at a convention to show off items that are in their future auctions. My guess is they aren't looking to sell at the convention, but are looking to increase awareness of their auctions on WhatNot.
  17. Anyone else worried about what this merger means for HBO? Is HBO going to start following Discovery's low cost reality tv paradigm?
  18. Pretty much any DC second tier key is relatively cold: My Greatest Adventure #80, Showcase #6, Brave and the Bold #54, etc.
  19. It will go back up on Heritage with a buy it now price of $10 million next week.
  20. Man, I was totally planning on giving this a pass. I don't really have anything to get graded right now and was worried I might miss a round by not being here every day. But now Sharon is going around liking it when people say they're in? Dang, I guess I'm in.
  21. It might behoove you to call the insurance company and see how they handle FMV for comics which don't have many comps.
  22. About time I won a Dr X contest! (Actually I think I came in 4th or 5th about 6 years ago and got an awesome omnibus which I've read many times)
