  1. There's a newish service gaining a tiny amount of traction here in Australia, probably following on from the trashy TV shows you guys send us - buying up the contents in abandoned storage lockers. Bit different here - its only in it's early days, but it's all online (we have a funny law apparently that forbids public viewing). I got on to this as I bought 40 old Aussie comics from a guy who found them in a locker,(he also got 50-60 boxed Star Trek figures and 2000 Aussie Rules Football Cards, some old Atari games etc) - and he kindly gave me the website address. Rules: Pay online via CC straight away if you win $200 clean-up deposit (so you take everything away and don't leave junk behind) - fully returned once everything is out 72 hrs to get your stuff All 'as-is' The only reason I ask, is that whilst there are only about 10 currently running in Victoria, they are all within 5kms of my house, so easy to get to - and I will be sensible (no big or heavy stuff like electrical appliances, household furniture etc) just lockers with boxes and stuff that fit in the back of a car. Being local a few trips won't matter. All boxes inside locker remain sealed until you 'win' it. My question is - has anyone done this, and if so what collectables, such as comics, figures, games, cards etc did you find? I'm fully aware that my chances of finding mostly junk are high - but it is not expensive (as it's newish and not many bidders) and it's local. I also have a couple of good outlets for 'junk' as long as it's clean and tidy - by 'junk' I mean stuff that's not comic related. The company running the auctions are 100% reputable, and there have been zero problems with them. So - have any of you done this, and if so, any success stories. Or disasters......
  2. This. After the Negan war ends, I'd very much like to see Kirkman focus on rebuilding. Too many people still sitting around doing nothing. I'd like to see the survivors form a proper militia/local government with medical, transport, power etc being restored. Run by strong, competent characters not 'Gregory' types. Then retake areas around the known communities and establish safe transport (That bloody railway track for a start!). Expand, and eventually start to take small towns, and I suppose Atlanta. Some contact internationally wouldn't go amiss - the saviours have a huge satellite outpost - I'm pretty sure someone could make it work - the satellites are still up there! If they go from Negan to The Whisperers, then the show will drop off big time, as it's just a rinse and repeat exercise. At some point people have to stop fighting, and start rebuilding. If written well, that could be even better than anything that has gone before. There have been some great moments including: Rick and Shane Negan and Glenn Sophia and the barn The "Ricktatorship" speech I liked the Jesus intro episode - but gosh, that character is underused (PS: look out for him in the UK series "Skins" - very young back in season one) Too few and too far apart now - I had hoped when Lori was killed off that things might get back to really great characters (she was friggin dire) but the 'new' cast members are unremarkable to say the least - except Simon, he is pretty well written, but only seen in short spells. Oceanside - possibilities - but the Dump People? Really? I think Kirkman was aiming for 300 issues, well, we are well over the halfway mark, and it's time to stop people v people and get back to fixing Alexandria, and then the state. I still like the show very much, but it is falling in it's standards. Ironically Fear The Walking Dead had its best series (but that's not setting the bar too high) As for the comic, prices for #1 are certainly coming off its high point - but this is a solid $1500 book for good when the dust settles. I had 5 at one point and certainly regretted not keeping one. It's certainly (along with #2, #3 and #19) on my shopping list after the show finishes. It just needs a little tweaking of it's focus, and it can get better. I have always said "The walking Dead" is Carl's story. It was never Rick's. I think when Chandler Riggs gets a bit older, and his acting improves slightly, then it's the end for Rick.
  3. Those "Mens" mags sell like gold dust, great grab! Not in the same league, but my son is managing a cinema complex in-between study semesters and he bought me home this. A freeway ad sign - "Ant" sized of course (see mouse for size comparison). Made out of metal with heavy vinyl Ant-Man insert. Wahey! It's great when your kids get you something cool!
  4. Having seen this last night I felt compelled to post. It is one of those very rare beasts - a sequel that nestles into the original, giving it the utmost respect and a few hat-tips, and morphs into new and wonderful direction. I can't say anything about the story - so this is spoiler free. To get the most out of this film: 1) Catch up on the main details of the original 2) AVOID ALL REVIEWS AND SPOILERS 3) Watch it on the biggest cinema screen you can find - the visuals are breathtaking at times It's simply one of the greatest films I have ever seen Magnificent 10/10
  5. Thanks - it's gone in so I'll post a grade down the line. Thanks all
  6. Grade please knowledgeable people! Thanks!
  7. We haven't been having the best of luck lately, and I certainly had no intention of buying any comics for the foreseeable future. A guy I had dealt with ages ago had a few he wanted to get rid of, and as quite frankly life sucks at the moment, I went and had a look, if nothing else more than to simply cheer me up. I had $300AUD in paypal, and we agreed on that for these games and comics. There are a few others including Marvel Monopoly. Maybe it's a sign that things are looking up!
  8. Thankyou, and to the others for the likes to your post. Much appreciated
  9. Absolutely. Unfortunately, my wife of 30 years has been battling cancer for a while, and suffered a stroke. I needed to liquidate some books to remodel bathroom etc to make things easier for her - hence why I had to leave the book in the sale. I would have not sold for some time, but needs must. FWIW Heritage and myself had about 12-13K estimation on the 3.0. However - and I want to be clear - Heritage were excellent, but it seems that it was just the wrong time for both books. More importantly, I sold 7 books and the renovations can commence forthwith, and I can stay off work to care for her until she gets better. That's the important thing for us. Regarding the Voldemort slabs - I had both companies slabs - the SA ones all had about a 5-10% under GPA regardless of who slabbed them. I think some books are just more popular currently, whilst some that hit the heights in the last 12-18 months are cooling down. Again, totally delighted with Heritage, another day, all books could have got another 15% or lost another 10% It's just the way things go!
  10. I was comparing to GPA previous highs - apologies I should have been clearer. Some were five figures under previous high-water marks.
  11. Yup, and the rest of the HG spideys took at massive, massive hit in most cases. Bloodbath for the HG early spidey seller today (except that #14).
  12. The As #3 was not good at all! a 7.0 went for $69,000 recently 6.5 for $32,000 a 4.0 for $19,000 (ebay) Unrestored 3.0 for $11,000 (at NYCC I believe) The 5.5 went for $20,000 (without premium), the 3.0 for $8250 (WO/P) - the 3.0 was mine, and both Heritage and I were quite shocked at how low they both went. Still them's the breaks, win some, lose some. A lot of books got a whack today, and some did well. But you wouldn't have wanted to be the seller of the HG ASM run....... some huge losses. Too much sabre-rattling atm for people to spend $$$ on funny books!
  13. Belated congratulations Bird - hope the Hulk's are just the tip of the iceberg! As someone who has only dealt with a 2500 book haul as the most I have bought, may I ask how you decided to organise sorting the collection? I'm sure that will be of interest to those of us who look for big hauls! Kudos on 40,000 though - don't think I would have the stones, and certainly not the space! Any info on your strategy? Thanks, and again, good luck with 'whats in the box(es)!'
  14. So - like what's in the boxes then? Inquiring minds need to know (plus this thread rocks!) Hope it's full of BA 12's for you!
  15. Was in town with the wifey at a hospital appointment when I got a call from a mate. "I'm at an auction, you should come down" Just outside the CBD was a place I'd never seen before, typical house clearance stuff, furniture, paintings etc - he pointed out a box of comics that they had found in a wardrobe (according to an employee). They don't sell stuff like this normally so probably why the place wasn't on my radar. There were 4 people there! I was the only bidder - no reserve. Midweek in central Melbourne is probably not the best time to do house clearance auctions! So for the princely sum of $12 AUD I got these - nothing special, but at that price, result!
  16. If I really had to go all in then I would bide my time and try to pick up 5 or 6 9.8 slabbed Transmetropolitan #1 (Helix printing only) - it's a 1997 book so just in time frame. Incredible story, low on the census in 9.8, and if ever there was a series dying to be made for Netflix or AMC, then it's this one. Last 9.8 was $156 which was ridiculously low. Great book.
  17. It always has. It provides hope for us all (this from a bloke who's biggest recent score was a box of Walt Disney/HB mens ties!) - they are still out there, sadly not in Australia! Congrats to the buyer - well played sir!
  18. Felix the Cat 1927 - took a while but found on Amazon on all places. Wonderful book, but too thick for CGC to slab. I wonder if that's changed now with the new cases - anyone know?
  19. Yeah the HS was all over the place for strip compilations in the 1930's. I tend to use Ausreprints as a guide - interestingly they only did #1 and #2 https://ausreprints.net/series/6508 If you remember I bought some OA from Peter Russell-Clarke last year - who, as you know, drew Ben Bowyang up to 1973! Delighted to have both items.
  20. Fascinating find at an auction - grabbed 200 odd comics (Walt Disney, Mandrake, Phantom, Tracy etc) then found this - Ben Bowyang #1 from 1937 Beat up with no staples, but very rare indeed. I would slab it, but the shape will not allow it - price - $37 inc 3 other 1940's comics in the lot.
  21. Recently done the same thing - $21 each all 9.8 pre-screened. 56 came back 9.8 Movie related, so when the time is right then go for it if you have the cash. Once the movie is out, the price generally drops. Good luck!
  22. Nathan Fillon would be awesome!
