  1. I agree and watch once my emotions and impulses get under control things will be better. How do you plan to do that? Four ways 1) Use a budget 2) Analyze comics before I buy them 3) Double check to make sure there are no hidden fees or I missed something 4) Check if I can buy it anywhere cheaper NONE of these methodologies, will address the root causes of your lack of emotional and impulse control.
  2. Gabe, can I politely ask you to respond to the comment you made which I bolded? I'm not being facetious, but .. do you know that Grading should accurately represent the book, not which number will make it sell faster? I'm wondering if perhaps you haven't got to grips with what Grading actually means applied to a comic book. I do realize that and I grade as accurately as I can to make sure people are happy. Thay said I've had this comic for a while with four watchers and having a more accurate grade will sell it faster. Okay, thanks. I saw that and I did a double-take If it's Graded accurately, maybe lower the price to make it more palatable to a potential buyer? Lower the price = it'll sell quicker. Or put it up for a 10 day auction with a low starting bid and let the chips fall where they may. That's too risky I've lost much more money then I should have doing that as they ended at .99 Really? I've had absolute garbage on eBay that I blew out because it came back graded lower than I expected and I've never had anything end at .99. I dunno...maybe do a reserve auction? Yup my two best examples of that would be the gold coin that was 400 sold for .99 cents and 80 dollars worth of silver dimes. So, you have LOST money (and a lot by the sounds of it) dealing in coins and metals??? What is your overall standing in that venture? So, you have tried your hand at coins, comics and video games. What is next? Magic cards? I started coins two years ago and I started selling yugioh cards at the same time and it's just what you'd expect overpaid for almost every coin I had. With video games I didn't take very many losses and still have lots of it to sell. The reason why II'm doing better with video games is because I bought small and in bulk. So if you included your debt from dealing in Yugioh cards and coins/metals, how much are you "in hole" (total) from all of your "collectibles" flipping?

  4. Well, been a pretty good past week and half... Another opportunity presented itself to get a Spidey book checked off my list. I was able to secure this book for second lowest GPA price paid based on the 12 month GPA average and only $15 CDN for shipping. Truth be told, I would have preferred a slightly better copy but for the price, overall presentation and low shipping cost, I could not turn it down and I am happy with this copy. I also picked this up from the same seller for a very good price and it also shipped with the above book. This will be an upgrade from my current 9.4 and for the price I paid for the 9.6, once I sell my 9.4, I should be "even" so I should not be "out" anything for the slight upgrade. So, current ASM books needed to complete the run... #1 to #12 #15 - #24 #27, #29 - #32 #35 - #38 #43, #47, #48 34 total issues needed to complete the run... Slowly chipping away but I think I am making decent progress since I "committed" to completing the run but it is very hard not to buy some non-ASM Spidey book as there are still a few Marvel silver and bronze age keys I would like to own.
  5. Just joining in here so I don't know specifics but it seems you would have been better off dropping 11k into a Hulk 1 and flipping it. I was told that or a AF15 but I wouldn't have made all the mistakes that I have.
  6. Randall recently purchased a couple of CGC slabs from me. Paid immediately and is a great guy to chat with. I would not hesitate to do business with him again. Thank You!
  7. Would it be too much to ask to see a total $ amount spent (including unsold inventory) and a total $ amount sold? It does not have to be complicated. Some may not agree but technically would unsold comics still count as a negative for basic accounting purposes?
  8. So, on top of buying comics you are also buying video games it seems at an increased rate. That is just fantastic!!! I picked up a lot of 50+ video games on ebay in as is condition and if they all work it's a great deal and as always if you're interested in something comment below or messaged me. So all that cost you $100...Was that Canadian or USD? Does that price include shipping? How much of it have you sold? "I picked this up because of the rare gba sp colors and the ags 101 sp plus the fact that it had Pokemon sapphire and Pokemon black 2 which I thought I saw but couldn't tell because it was blurry so I took a chance". So was that lot $130 CDN or USD? Is shipping included in that? Did they all work, are you going to have to put out more cash or did you for anything that did not work? Admittedly, I know nothing about these games but how much do you figure you will be able to make on resale? Also, I hope you are paying your sister for helping you make your videos.
  9. Gabe, From reading this thread it is clear that your "career guide or whatever you call them" that you put so glibly, isn't the problem. YOU ARE. If you actually have a professional counselor(s), I encourage you to let them read this thread and see what they think but I suspect that you don't listen to them either. Fact is, you want to deal in comics because you think it is cool and fun and hip and not something you would have to ever actually break a sweat over.
  10. The numbers sink in but I'm not doing this for a living right now it's something I'm doing on the side, also I'm working with my career guide or whatever he is and it's not working out yet. You are not doing anything for a "living" right now. Doesn't that make you angry? Embarrassed? Sad? That you could be up over $30,000 instead of down $600? When you don't have a full-time job and can't support yourself, what you repeatedly ignore, is that you should not be doing anything "on the side" other than getting your mess together and finding the means to support yourself on your own. You lack the ability to address and work on your issues and 'flip' comics at the same time. It's been proven time and time and time again. This whole "I'm getting better at it" that you keep telling yourself is a delusion. You haven't and you won't. Not until the root causes of some of your crappy attitude and challenges are addressed. Thank goodness KPR bailed you out on the ASM #129. You went through MULTIPLE steps online and still bought the wrong grade and over paid from a make money angle. That is beyond a rookie mistake. You are a complete failure at this. If you keep following this path one day you are going to wake up, 40 or 50 years old without a pot to urinate in and wonder what the heck happened.
  11. It won't upgrade my business acumen but I think you're missing the point, the majority of my losses are from my emotions and once I get a handle on it I will be in the green or very close to it that I can promise you and since you like examples I'll give you some I wouldn't have bought or overpaid for GSX 1 $355 JLA # 1 NG $210 Bat 4 $223 Betty and Veronica 320 $470 Infinity gauntlet's 9.8 x5 and 9.6 x2 $985.60 X-men 266 9.6 graded $337.50 ASM 129 CGC 8.0 $966 Total money saved $3324.10 So when you tell me my control of emotions won't help things I have to say I disagree Don't try buy and sell until you can CONTROL yourself and have your personal "in order"
  12. How does a guy, who was previously on government assistance, still live at home and only works 20 or so hours at a minimum wage job even afford, much less have the nerve to spend $11,000 + on comic books? Something is seriously rotten about that. Gabe, think of work (as in a job) as profit. How much "profit" would you have, say if you had been working 40 hours a week at a minimum wage job instead of your current 20 hours and not "dealing" in comics? What if you put in that time "dealing" to actually got yourself another 20 hours per week? I GUARANTEE you would be MUCH further ahead in life. Let's look at it shall we? These won't be exact but will give you an indication of how much further ahead you really could be if you actually, you know, WORKED an extra 20 hours per week on top of your current measly 20 hours per week. 20 hours per week x 11.25 pay per hour (yes it has not always been $11.25 but let's just use that figure as it was that for the past year and will be moving up to $11.40 on October 1st) = $225 per week. $225 per week x 52 Weeks = $11,700 per year. $11,700 income x 3 Years = $35,100.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By working three years at an extra 20 hours per week, you would have netted yourself an extra $35,100 (again, not accounting for taxes, missed/sick days, etc., etc., etc.) How does that "stack up" for you? How does an extra $30,000 grand or so measure up against negative $600 or whatever you are at for "dealing" in comics? Even if it was only HALF that amount you would still be LIGHT YEARS ahead of where you are now. Look at those numbers. Is ANYTHING sinking in?
  13. Agreed, but at what point does it just become sad? Do we really need proof that water is wet? I know. I hear what you are saying. I was thinking about it last night and felt a little bad for being hard on him as it seemed there was yet even more "evidence" from all the replies to questions, etc. that there may be deeper issues and challenges at play beyond a learning disability and lethargy. Gabe, I really hope you have a qualified counselor or two that you are seeing on a regular basis and are getting expert help beyond the comic selling advice here. It's ok you can tell me what you see the biggest problems are and I can bring it up with my therapist. The biggest problem I see is that you do what you want to do regardless of the free, expert advice given by people who've been successful for longer than you've been alive. That's my biggest problem that you see? Well I'm not going to quit comics that much I know and I can make it work too and also I'm gonna do some calculations later I think you may like it And folks, there we have it. No one is going to tell him nothing no way, no how! Perhaps the time for free advice and "bailing him out" should stop and let him post what he is going to post and let him actually figure things out (or not) on his own.

  15. With all due respect to the OP I can't imagine that book being worth more than $50-75 So when you come out with an asking price of likely more than two times fair market value it doesn't do anything to instill or create buyer confidence Or assist with seller credibility Ok but I don't understand what credibility has to do with this unless they would think I'm trying to rip them off? It's a OBO and right now I'm testing the waters to see if I'll get any offers for it. I like to think the questions being asked are comig from a child but I know that it's coming from someone in their mid-20s. So sad... I don't think it's sad to ask about something you're not sure about I may not be as smart as you guys but at least I'm trying. It's sad how a 27 year old can't figure out how over pricing a book can impact their credibility as a legit seller. You seem very sure of your pricing methods and it makes total sense to you however your prices don't make any sense for the reasons mentioned by the other posters. It seems like you're hoping to sucker a new collector in over paying for your book just like the seller did to you. Gabe, the market for that book is going to be very, very difficult. Overpriced books can be a big turn off. Being at the high end of GPA is one thing but books that are in the stratosphere, like yours for this mangled, coverless ASM #7 just make legit buyers/collectors laugh or scoff and move on and if you don't think buyers make "mental notes" of sellers, you are wrong. You are showing this inexperience over 8 FB pages too no less. LISTEN TO WHAT GATOR IS TELLING YOU. Also, I am not surprised to see that you did not listen to my advice about cleaning up your online presence. You still have My Little Pony and far right American political stuff on your FB page. Seriously, you are CANADIAN. WTF? Share if "You Think (Obama) Wants Civil Unrest to Disrupt the Election" - Are you out of your freaking mind? Also, what is with this "Meninist" ? Your rant against Emma Watson was the icing on the cake. She has accomplished more in 15 minutes than you have in your entire life. Get an education. Or, at the very least, understand that excessive posting of social/political views online, generally not a good thing. As an employer, if I saw your online postings, your application would be going straight to the garbage. I don't like her views and feminist logic so I'll leave it at that. I know that the comic book community is small don't get me wrong but I also know that you can ask whatever you want because it's your comic and as you said they'll just scoff and move on, that said it only means I'll be sitting with a overpriced comic and with what gator told me I said that I would change the price after the weekend if I get no bites. I hear what people are saying about Gabes online activity is not necessarily going to impede his ability to get a job due to his present situation but it COULD and it still shows a lack of maturity and understanding of how you project yourself to others matters. It is "nice" for you that KPR bailed you out and did not prolong your suffering with the ASM #129 CGC 8.0 but based on your ongoing attitude and excuses I don't know how many bridges you have left.
  16. Timely to present discussion. I was at a flea market this afternoon. Unfortunately, no good buys. I just happen to take pics of these books for a laugh. I think this seller subscribes to Gabes style of pricing and selling.

  18. I will I learned how to save money with bubble mailers and bubble wrap Uhmm...I can still ship a slab boxed for that $19 CDN or thereabouts...It is weight and insurance value that will determine your tier options. I hope you are not shipping slabs in a bubble mailer? How do you not know this already though? Seriously dude. I learned about how to ship and values BEFORE even listing anything on the Bay...
  19. Gabe, I was trying to get at what iceman just told you. There are several shipping options that are less than $27 USD per single slab. Go explore the CP website.
  20. Thanks! I always really liked the cover to #45 and originally wanted a higher graded CGC copy but this one presented itself to me at the right price and time so took it. Yeah, for the "common books" I'm hoping to stay in the 6.0 range but as I get lower in the run that may have to change. I also want to just "finish up" the 40's now too. I will be in a position to buy another big book soon but I am trying to decide whether to hold out for an even bigger book or better grade. Decisions, decisions...
