At my LCS today, and I noticed a few more Overlooked Campbell books I had to pick up. One of which is MCP #1 with this wraparound cover. I like Man-Thing's junk bush and the dinosaur.

That's crazy talk, John. The 2009-2010 period was the loosest CGC has ever been on moderns - books with 4, 5, 6 visible defects were coming back in CGC 9.8 holders. And none of those books would ever come back 9.8 today if they were resubbed. Fair enough. However would you say their grading standards have changed though? I do not think so. Doesn't the above from mschmidt -- which it seems like you agree with -- mean their standards changed? And actually changed at least 2 times -- from normal to "loose" back to "normal"?

Definitely! Went back there again last week when I was in town. I didn't find anything big but the employee did let me look through a stack of old Flash comics that just came in from a collection. All un-bagged and beat up, but there was a #139 and some others. Flash just isn't my thing. At the time the Sandman #8 was the most I ever paid for a raw comic (which really wasn't that much), but I did a lot of calculating instead of just forking over the money!

You were fortunate. Imho, this last year has been the tightest CGC has ever been on Moderns - I do a ton of SS books where I crack out 9.8s and I've never experienced this many grade drops upon resubmission. I like tight grading as much as the next guy, but I feel they've moved the needle way too far in the other direction now. +1 I'm not as experienced as many around here based on volume, but I think the hardest hit recently is the 9.6/9.8 line. And that's also probably the one that hurts the bottom line the most, too. A 9.8 is allowed to have (I believe) at least 1 small flaw (i.e a crease), but when I look at my recent 9.6's, I don't see anything wrong with them. And grader's notes are also (typically) not given for 9.6 and above so that won't tell me the problem either.

yeah, i haven't gotten one in a bit. irritating because i have like 100 scans ready to go, but need a fire lit under my rear to get them up. i think they are reading my mind and know I am considering just saying "f-it" and opening a store again. they really want my $19.95 i guess. I received the same offer, but it didn't come in an email like the others did. I was checking out the bottom of my Selling page to see how many listings I had left this month and saw the 1,000 listing there with a "Get Offer" button. Quickly relisted all of my items which ended.
