  1. My latest commisison from Marco Guaglione. This time HARLEY QUINN Marco is running a commission special until the end of October. He's one of the few artists that i can recommend without hesitation.
  2. Marco Guaglione (www.mgcurves.com) is running a commission sale. $80 SHIPPED, from Italy. I've done several commissions with Marco and never had a problem.
  3. Exactly. Even the "true BHC" lurks on the various message boards. And if someone puts out a "I'm paying $1 meelion dollars for any page drawn by artist XXXXX" the BHC may reconsider their collection. Nobody is offering a hundred million trillion bazillion dollars for comic art to shake it lose. This isn't 3rd grade. If someone turns down 5X, 10X FMV(real, legit offers) for a page, consider it gone, for the time being, in a black hole.
  4. "revolving door collector" "ADHD collector" "Short attention span syndrome collector" "If I can double it then Imma flip it collector" Heheh...top two are mine. I have another one: Renter. So yeah, I should clarify that I don't mean flipper. Not the same, because not buying for profit. Just flakey and can't hold onto anything. There's another. "Destroyer Of All Comic Art Markets". That's when a guy decides he's got to have a bunch of pieces by a certain artist and bids up everything at auction and makes a bunch of wildly high offers for his work in private collections over the course of time, and moves the needle upwards for prices across the board only to decide that he's bored and dumps everything at a loss, taking that artist's market down with his level of interest. Ah yes...DOACAM may have been the first. I pity those collectors who are looking to buy from artists whose markets get pointlessly inflated by the Destroyer... Grail today, Sale tomorrow
  5. There are few true Black hole collections. Mostly, I think, because of the financial aspect of keeping every single piece of OA purchased. Conversely I think there are many micro-black hole collectors. Pieces may come and go, but they have that small selection that will be the last pieces to go if/when they begin to divest. I can't find a feature on CAF as a whole to look at pieces by date posted, but that link is in each individual CAF gallery. How many pieces were posted in 2000 that are still in the same collection? I'm guessing quite a few. So, for a majority of the board members here those pieces have been locked up before they even thought of entering the hobby. So, anyone looking for any of those pages is out of luck.
  6. Definitely a strong price at $1674 for PREACHER 46 Page 17 . I mentioned to another collector that I was kind of surprised it went for more than a HUGE fully painted Moeller LUCIFER cover.
  7. That's just a bit after the timeframe I think. Issue 1 was in 1995 Per OP: "My "golden age" of comic reading was between 1990-1996" Tell me how 1995 comes after 1996? Oh, you meant THAT 1995
  8. That's just a bit after the timeframe I think. Issue 1 was in 1995
  9. Just checked Netflix, it's on there. And added to my queue
  10. Ended $1,331.00 Didn't think it would go that high. Me either. I guess the $825 opening bid within a couple of hours of listing should have been an indicator. But I've given up trying to predict closing prices on PREACHER pages long ago. The only thing i know for certain is the seller must have agonized over the first 6 days 23 hours then jumped out of his chair in the last 4 seconds of the auction closing.
  11. Sure, HA is having some good sale prices today. But if you're in the market for something a bit cheaper I've got a few items WELL under $100 available at NSNart . Only asking $36 with my current 20% discount for something like this, which i less than your typical "quickie head sketch" at a convention. YMMV
  12. Going to listen to it now to hear what I said! By the time we wrapped up the podcast, it was about 10pm San Diego time, or, more relevantly, 6am in the U.K. (I had been in Scotland before heading to the SDCC). So, even if I sound somewhat coherent, don't be fooled...I was running on fumes! Do you remember at least talking about Dark Knight pages
  13. He just got the inequality sign reversed. But in his post he mentioned art UNDER $100 ART < $100
  14. BLOOD & WHISKEY page 18 got a hit on it's opening bid of $825 two hours after the auction went live. Looks like a typical B&W page. It this the floor now for this book
  15. There are a few ways you can go about this. Most, however, require you having a friend attending the convention. * Set up a commission/sketch before the show and have a friend pick it up for you * Send someone you trust some $$ and ask them to pick up a sketch for you. Does it have to be "sketches"? Have you tried getting some commissions from the artists you like? Those you could get no matter where you live (or where they live for that matter). Just do your homework before paying for any commissions up front.
  16. Dean Ormston also played a role in creating this comic
  17. You can post the same crummy pics there that you do here And scanner prices have come WAY down. Would be but a fraction of that art haul. Great pages, BTW
  18. I met Mr. Phil Hester for the first time this past weekend at the Phoenix Comic Con. He had a portfolio of art as well as a stack of $20 pages. After flipping through the portfolio I started randomly looking through the 6" stack of pages he brought along. One sort of looked familiar. Then I realized it's from a story I pull out and read every few years, FREAKS' AMOUR. I asked if he had any more of these and he said there were a few more in there. "A few more" turned out to be about 30 . FREAKS' AMOUR 01 Page 45 on CAF. Lesson for the weekend? There is still affordable art out there. New collectors are not priced out of the hobby if their scope is wide enough
  19. It would add value. I think there are enough people who want a "word" page. For me, there are other more desirable qualities though.
