  1. I will totally agree my last post was mostly provenance info. Not a classic flip, but I feel tangential to the overall conversation of quickly recycled art.
  2. What happened in the last 24 hours to make ‘nude’ make the list?
  3. That one went a bit higher than I was expecting. The similar page right after had been shopped around for 10k the last year or so, then dropped to 8500 last month. Maybe auction fomo played a part.
  4. So it’s two even smaller flips? Great! Lemme know if you know how much the seller got from Anthony, and I’ll update my post.
  5. I think it’s beneficial to know when art moves from dealer to dealer, regardless of the price difference.
  6. Higher than I thought it would go, but not necessarily surprised. Popular crossover event, early Cable appearance, wolverine and Jean drama, and basically direct from the artist.
  7. New Mutants 44 pg 17. Offered at Romitaman in March 2021 for 1500. Now available at Anthony’s for 2000. https://www.comicartfans.com/ForSaleDetails.asp?ArtId=8144331
  8. If anything, I’d think it would do the opposite and there’d be a selling freeze instead of a sell off. I could be wrong, but it seems like most collectors with substantial collections are relatively insulated against economic downturns. They can afford to just enjoy their art and wait it out.
  9. The main reason modern prices are high is because of sellers/flippers. How many times is an artist supposed to watch pages resell shortly after for 2-3 times the price? I’ve never dealt with @Nexus and I probably won’t, because I think the modern prices are nuts. But he’s doing a baller job with his artists, so props to him. I’ve read countless stories on this board about collectors ‘overpaying’ for pieces 20, 30, 40 years back, but they loved the piece. And a lot of those same people have an awesome retirement plan for buying what they loved. I understand a lot of your previous arguments, and with the money going into this ‘hobby’, it’s impossible not to consider what you’re buying as investments. But OA isn’t crypto, and if you’re looking at OA as investment, it should be long term, not short. I know I cherry picked your quote, but bemoaning reps and artists for not leaving meat to accommodate immediate resellers is naive.
  10. The Ninjak cover took a nice jump this weekend, but no surprise with who’s going after it. I am surprised it’s in the Sunday auction, though.
  11. Definitely not. There are valid reasons to restore an original art piece - foxing, water damage, etc… Affixing new stats directly to artwork, amateur ink touch up and other things documented in different threads, seems to be done solely to gussy up a piece for higher resale. It’s their art, and they can do what they will with it, whether I agree or not. But doing these things and not disclosing it… not acceptable IMO.
  12. They relist stuff all the time as ‘new’. But to be fair, most dealers do that. Most dealers to not alter art, tho, like coollines. Those stats look suspect, and there’s no telling with them if it’s overlays or attached to the art - until you make a very one sided deal and have the art in hand when they get around to shipping it. Then good luck if anything is not described correctly with the art.
  13. I see it fine, although not sure that’s a good thing. I think I was happy not having that in my memory bank…
  14. Obviously I have no problem bringing attention to the crazy prices in this market. I love the flip thread. But calling it out in somebody’s sales thread is not the place to do it. It’s against forum rules, but also just kinda a d**k move.
  15. Your comment probably got deleted because it’s against the marketplace rules. Buyers may not post in a way that hurts a sellers chance of a sale, or discredits their reputation. A few examples would be saying this book is priced too high, or a cheaper copy can be found at xxxxx. Another example would be, I don't like this person, and would never buy from him/her. There may be a few exceptions for known scammers. We can tell the difference between a joke and a rude or unnecessary comment. A decision either way will be at the discretion of the moderator. Violation of this rule will result in points added to your account, and possibly restricting your ability to post on the forum.
  16. Fingers crossed. It’s never a great time, yet I keep buying! Lol
  17. I second that. It’s quite a skill to come up with that many ways to talk about a piece. And I think it’s great he comments on all sorts of pieces, and not just the $50K covers like so many others.
  18. For my tastes, nobody’s holding. This auction has the most stuff I’ve been interested in in a while.
  19. Historic is a stretch on that one, but not as egregious as other first appearance pages I’ve seen come up.
  20. About 7 years ago I posted on here about fedex delivering several HA auctions to the wrong house. Another boardie suggested Postal Annex or something comparable, and was surprised so many people don’t do that with the prices we’re paying for art. And now I have the same opinion. Pay about 200 bucks a year at postal annex, and have not had a delivery issue since - they sign and hold onto the package til I can pick it up, and send me an email when it’s there. I’ll gladly keep paying that 200 to not deal with the stress y’all do.
  21. I mean, hard to know for sure til you see the art somewhere else, since they never remove anything. When the market was normal, their prices were crazy. Now that the market’s crazy, their prices are medication levels of insane. Not surprised their inventory remains seemingly stagnant, but with how long ago they got their art + their practices, it’s not like they have to sell a lot to keep their ‘business’ and the tax incentives associated.
  22. Gotcha. Best of luck, and if SDCC doesn’t work out, one of the smaller cons might.
  23. Yeah, I’ll echo comix4fun. Getting sketches at SDCC can be very hunger games. Do you mind me asking who you’re getting a sketch from? A good amount of the artists set stuff up pre con, if they even do them.
