  1. Pages that are held together with acidic rubber cement from back in the 60s and 70s, unless conserved, will eventually fall apart and become brittle. There should be a premium paid for all solid state unaltered pages versus ones with glued on stats and effects. As time goes on those pages will be considered more valuable as they are more likely to survive/not need costly intervention.
  2. Probably yeah. It’s a very old label, wonder if it’s been reslabbed at some point.
  3. 55/45 LR centering, fills the PSA edge to edge so no real trim fear, and so damn pack fresh looking. Wonder what war breaks out when this hits the block (image might be altered though, no way it’s that clean a white).
  4. 1. Be Happy 2. Cover all art buys with art sales 3. Land another of my small handful of grail covers. 4. Gaiman Sandman speaking original series page. 5. Be open to opportunity when it arrives.
  5. I’ve been to almost every Jersey art show held in the last 5 years. I didn’t notice any great slowdown in the last show. It was just different because you had limits on people being let in and they sold I think 2-4 less tables to allow greater spacing. I was able to buy a nice page and had a few good sales. It sucked not being able to hang out much with folks after, but overall it was a very good show. I’ll be going to the first NJ this year, not sure about 2nd because of schedule. Hope to see photos from this.
  6. I don’t know about best range, but it is pretty superior IMO. It has a sense of energy and engagement with the reader I kinda like. The background is a little sparse though. I know he probably didn’t want to make it to busy but I don’t like foreground only images, feel incomplete to me.
  7. Honestly the only value to OPC rough cut is that they can’t be trimmed.
  8. Interesting read. First off (ocd kicking in) a gripe. The photo at the top showing the back of the card isn’t actually the card in question. That’s the back of a 1979 Topps Gretzky RC not the OPC (different card stock, no french writing like on OPC). Onto the card. That OPC is a psa 10, which has a population of 1 I’m pretty sure. Now with the centering issues it has and the OPC rough cut I’m not sure if it’s a true 10 but it’s gotten the tag so it is what it is. As it’s marked it’s the rarest Gretzky collectible out there and is singularly by its grade one of the top ten individual cards in existence based of importance and rarity. I’ve pulled a 79 opc out of a pack before and it came back a PSA 8. Getting that 10 designation instead of a still rare/desirable 9 grade changed that from a 80,000.00 card to a million dollar one. Even if we as a planet didn’t have so many Rona-bored and paper wealthy folks as we do now, that card would have done well into the 6 figures based on rarity/importance.
  9. I love that Terry Austin and Walt Simonson have 16000 pages of art credited to them (combined), and both have kept the vast majority of their share of the art they worked on. That must be an awesome sight to behold now.
  10. What happened to pre-duction or whatever his old ID was?
  11. If covid kills the movie industry and forces all films to be smaller budget less effects and location heavy, the super hero hype that has brought many buyers into the game will die out. We will see Entertainment become more stratified as pop culture becomes more niche and specialized as opposed to oversized and widely shared. We will switch out Avengers style cultural event shared entertainment that unites people across multiple bands, classes, and cultures for unique limited focus entertainment that won’t have the same engaging and unifying effects we are used to from big tent poll productions. The effects will be devastating for our global conversation as we lose the shared language of entertainment (a core aspect of traditional 1st world culture). The effects of this shift on collectibles like comic books and comic art will be gradual but eventually devastating. Losing the readers of new material would be an insignificant loss in comparison. As movie theaters (and by extension big budget location driven films) go so goes our shared cultural touch stones, and with it the much of the desire to own these unique objects and pieces of history we all collect. We lose them the clock ticks faster, we keep them the pace is slowed.
  12. I don’t think that’s attempted at that point. Bought under market and found a buyer. Mission accomplished.
  13. I would assume temperature change would effect the relative humidity near the art and could cause expansion and contraction of the fibers in the paper. That adjustment could in theory lead to discoloration/integrity loss as components are broken down on a mechanical and chemical level. This would only be an issue If the degree change was pretty great, but an exterior wall by a window might experience that. I found this on the subject. https://cool.culturalheritage.org/byauth/maravilla/deterioration-causes.html
  14. Maybe UV coat any windows in the room.
  15. Marvel used layouts and breakdowns both. I would like to know what the exact editors definition of each was.
  16. Quesada went for a lower than I expected price. I also took a stab at the doom splash but came up short. Some strong prices I felt today.
  17. What always got me was “breakdowns” versus “layouts”. What’s exactly the difference there?
  18. A perfect daily with all three in normal garb, brick, and at least one SW background element is still on my list. They exist I just never seem to win them.
  19. This is the type of discussion of "The Average" ARTSOC approves of. Any discussion about how overpriced or downwardly trending his values are will be enthusiastically approved of by the committee. Remember: Friends don't let friends buy art we havent approved of....DO YOUR PART!!!
  20. I threw a bid in at the end on the Howard the Duck splash with Strange on it. That strikes me still as a steal.
  21. The Intro to the movie "Gentleman Broncos" is a collection of well known pulp and sci-fi magazine art, the actors and creators names replacing the original cover logos. My favorite is the Freas Analog cover (I think many of them are Analog covers the more I think about it). Heres a link if you want to watch it for yourself.
  22. I can see 38 of them off Albert's facebook page.
