  1. someone was desperate for a BC. I wonder if they'll frame it. -J.
  2. Avengers 1, by a long shot. Without them and the formation of that team in #1, cap would never have been resurrected in the first place. (thumbs u -J.
  3. Comparing HG copies of NM 98 ( 3,275 in 9.6 or higher ) too HG copies of BA12 ( 559 in 9.6 or higher) makes about as much sense as having this thread moved too modern. I think his point was simply that neither is "rare" in high grade. And he's right. -J.
  4. The scant sales being a result of the book's scant numbers, but I have not seen raw copies go for this kind of money. Until this 9.2 sold I was sure that the dollars raw copies were realizing were rivaling what a slabbed copy would go for. If this 9.2 sale is legit it would suggest a commensurate increase in slabbed prices as well, hence my posit that the book is "hot". @Cujobyte: I have a working theory that the sandman 8b will eventually be the copper age equivalent of the star wars 1 price variant. -J. So....there's an "obvious uptick in heat and price"....but, scant sales to demonstrate that...? How does that work...? "If" is a big word. We shall see. Four raws and two slabs in six months or so is "a lot" by this book's standard. And with strong prices for each and every one of those raw copies and a 9.2 now evidently selling for what a 9.8 sold for six months ago, I do not believe the word "hot" is an overstatement. -J. You would have to demonstrate the sales history of this book to show an "uptick." A 9.0 sold for $250 less than three years ago, and a 9.4 sold for $300 in 2009. There have been 17 sales of this book slabbed, going back to 2002, averaging about 1.2 a year. The prices, while "up", don't definitively prove that this is due to the book ITSELF, or the overall exuberance on the market in general. This 9.2 is a quintessential "outlier", if it's even legitimate. For record keeping purposes, you argued THE EXACT OPPOSITE POSITION when discussing Cerebus #1 last year. Hardly. Context is everything my friend. -J. No, that's pretty much the exact opposite of what you argued, right on the nail. "You can't accurately gauge the market based on a handful of sales!" was the very gist of your argument. Context. Context. No need to derail the thread any further, if you need any additional clarifications, feel free to shoot me a PM. (thumbs u -J.

  6. Sale looks legit for the 9.2 #8b that just sold for $2k. Seller has already left feedback for the buyer. http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=comikaze&ftab=FeedbackLeftForOthers -J.
  7. Two new members in one day. Nice books gents. -J.
  8. Sweet....daddy likes that book. Especially with a Gaiman signature on the inside cover............I have read that he will not sign any of his Sandman works any longer, so having Gaiman's sig on it is doubly sweet. It looks to be in the NM range, to me.While it's hard to judge with the smaller pics, it is much better than VF. Personally, I would send the book to CBCS to have the book slabbed under their authenticated signature program. If you send it into CGC, you'll get a qualified grade. It's on the inside cover that is stil a blue label at CGC. And I agree, definitely a 9.2/9.4. (thumbs u -J.
  9. Maybe that bonham auction late last year where somebody dropped $16k+ for a 9.8? Or the whole "death of" story line and the expected resurrection? -J.
  10. A new GPA high for a 9.4 just popped yesterday: http://www.ebay.com/sch/?_nkw=-qzkgwxbbcvsqvpjmzr+291351248688&LH_Complete=1&LH_BIN=1&LH_BO=1&_pppn=v3&_ipg=200&_pgn=1&rmvSB=true 2015 is shaping up to be another strong year for Logan. -J.
  11. This is one of those books that comes up so rarely, I wonder if the recorded sales are actually "Buy It Now" prices, which were snapped up quickly, and the true "open market" value is completely unknown? There have been a few books like that where I have paid "Buy It Now" prices as fast as I could and thought to myself "I would have gladly paid double, but the seller set the price low and I'm happy to pay it." Unsold "Buy It Now" auctions are helpful for determining the upper limit for the prices of books on the open market, because they're open to everyone, and no one wants them. Completed "Buy It Now" auctions for rarely-seen items don't really tell us anything about the open market, since the market didn't decide the final price. I know you're turning back flips over that recent 9.2 sale. -J.

  14. Right and with all of your jibber-jabber and the obvious recent uptick in heat and price for the book (which has brought out a few raws), there is still much less than even 100 copies "officially" accounted for, raw or slabbed. In fact I would wager that that newly slabbed 9.2 is one of the raw copies that has sold in the last few months. -J. "Obvious" recent uptick in heat and price...? Got any evidence for this? There have been two sales in the last several months on eBay, one raw, and this 9.2 that just sold. Aside from the 9.8 in August, there hasn't been a slabbed sale recorded at GPA since 2013. Do you have other evidence that would demonstrate your claim? Yes. There have been more than just those two sales. There was a mid grade raw that went for about $450. There was a 9.0-ish raw that went for about $600. There was also a 9.6-ish looking raw that sold for $1k in the fall. Then of course the last raw auction that's still on ebay for nearly $1,100. Pardon me, I wasn't clear: do you have any documentation that demonstrates this? Yes. Expired ebay listings. Sorry, I can no longer link you to them, but fret not, they happened. (thumbs u -J. Then of course the last raw auction that's still on ebay for nearly $1,100. The sudden flurry of activity and increase in sales prices seem to correlate with the new 9.8 that came to the market and immediately popped for $2k last August. Yes $2k sounds like a lot for a 9.2 now. But it's also possible somebody would rather pay a premium for an already slabbed NM- copy (only the 35th copy to be slabbed) than roll the dice on a raw copy for $1200+ that arrives as a lower grade than advertised, or, worse yet, with some kind of colour touch. -J.

  18. I'll assume you bought this copy?? http://www.ebay.com/itm/131422121553?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649&rmvSB=true No, evorus picked up a sharp looking raw copy. Looks like that 9.2 was just slabbed and brought to market. But damn somebody popped it at the full ask of $2k very shortly after it listed. Book is hot.
  19. I share your concerns about that book. That may be the most amount of restoration I have ever seen on a GA book that is somehow still in a blue holder. That was not a blue label book IMO. -J.
  20. You're just now posting this bad boy here? Nice book. Good to have a little NDS company. -J. PS: Harvey, don't forget, it's "2015" now.
  21. Agreed! Which is exactly why (when it comes to moderns) I only buy what I think is cool and what I know is rare and let the market have its way, however. (thumbs u -J.
  22. Book sold at $780 raw. Wow. That's the most I have seen a raw copy go for. http://www.ebay.com/sch/?_nkw=-qzkgwxbbcvsqvpjmzr+151575898304&LH_Complete=1&LH_BIN=1&LH_BO=1&_pppn=v3&_ipg=200&_pgn=1&rmvSB=true The seller of the other raw copy ended his auction early and pulled his listing. And just like that, no more copies on the market again. The overall rarity, and especially in slabbed high grade, will keep prices strong IMO. There's a feeding frenzy every time one pops up. -J.
