  1. Now I wouldn't say that! Hulk smash puny Flash! Hulk smashes everyone! SC #4 will definitely be on the rise, but I don't believe it will come close to the levels of IH #1 or AF #15. It will get a nice boost if the TV show is a hit though. Hopefully not too much of a boost, I still have to buy my high grade copy! (thumbs u I'm with Dark Knight here. Love all three key books, and value wise, expect SC4 to be on par with the other two. This conversation has been had multiple times, but the crux of it in my view is SC4 - way more rare, less popular. Flash show, coupled with a big screen appearance done right will change that. Look at the cgc census data (9/21/26) High grade copies (cgc 8.5 or better) - Showcase 4 (9) - Incredible Hulk 1 (21) - Amazing Fantasy 15 (26) Total Blue/Yellow labels on the CGC census - Showcase 4 (215) - Incredible Hulk 1 (812) - Amazing Fantasy 15 (1567) Is the flash a more popular a character? no, not overall (not versus hulk or spidey, anyways). But add the rarity.........and the answer seems more clear Census numbers notwithstanding, I don't think SC 4 will ever be on par with AF 15 again. And not even the Hulk. I'm a big fan of all three, but I just don't see it happening. I was in Party City the other day, and I heard numerous 4 year olds wanting to be Spiderman/Hulk for Halloween. Kids aren't running around asking for Flash costumes. Pun intended. The Flash may do well on the small screen, but even with a praised show, Green Arrow is not exactly lighting up sales charts. The Batman vs. Superman movie is shaping up to be a convoluted, mis-cast, over-reaching mess. I hope I end up wrong but right now all signs point to questionable at best. A successful Green Lantern/Flash movie could certainly go a long way to help on the big screen, assuming that actually gets made. DC just needs to get a cogent game plan for their movies together and stop trying to play catch up in a single movie. As a comic book, SC4 will always be important, but the Flash's mass appeal will never equal Spiderman or even the Hulk, that alone will hold the book back, and keep it in AF 15 and Hulk 1's rear view mirror. Pun intended again. And unfortunately, FF 1 should not really even be a part of these conversations any more IMO. -J.
  2. If by "right time" you mean when prices increase, you're doing great! That's a good point. I probably "overpaid" by $1000 when I finally pulled the trigger on mine at the time. Best decision I ever made. -J.
  3. Nice. Would be a shame to break them up. -J.
  4. Sounds amazing you should definitely post it here! It was your idea for a thread after all. You don't need to worry about anybody stealing your idea for sigs, the people who have blue labels probably like them that way, and I doubt if there is anyone on these boards with a raw one will go out of their way to copy your sigs. What creators collectors decide to have sign their books is usually a personal experience. Unless it's a Stan Lee sig, then who cares. (thumbs u -J.
  5. No kidding? Perhaps it's something in my settings? -J.
  6. Hey guys, Anyone else having trouble checking the "best accepted offer" on ebay nowadays? Seems clicking "see original listing" and then "print" is not an option anymore. Is there another way? Any feedback is greatly appreciated. (thumbs u -J.
  7. Who knows the book has been all over the map at least in 9.6. There was that 10.5k sale referenced in the pedigree auction. That one had unwitnessed sigs. Then there was the 8500 on ebay with no sigs. Then the CC one and now this one. If you average them all together the value is probably slightly more than it was before the movie came out, which is a good thing since many books experience a post-movie slump (eg all those guardians of the galaxy related books). -J.
  8. PM me your Paypal info bud, will send it right over. (thumbs u What sucks for the seller of the book, he only cleared a little over $7300. Your TMNT #1 club member credentials should be revoked for doubting Turtle Power. On a side note, this went for a grand more than the one on CC with "White Pages" on the label. -J. I underestimated the power of the Eastman and Laird sketch/sigs. :: BTW, that CC book as a weak 9.6, and the scan was just awful. http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=569200 Alas we can never know for sure.... -J. Tru dat. :: Payment sent! Received! Thank you sir. (thumbs u -J.

  11. Little $10 wager bud? Closest to actual sale price. Sure, why not! -J. (thumbs u $8,232....think that means I win. Shall I PM you my PayPal info? -J.

  13. Agreed. My guess is 7.6k. It's current price (7.3k) is on par with a recent CC auction anyway, so it's holding value at least. The one two weeks before that went for $8500 though... -J.
  14. Somewhat bearish on the turtles are we? -J. I've noticed less WTB threads on TMNT #1 recently and more FS threads with the books going unsold (even after repeated price drops). I've noticed that as well. But mainly in the lower grades. The 9.6/9.8's have seemed to have held up far better in auctions and on ebay however. -J.
  15. I...disagree. I would imagine that the "PQ" CGC has on the label is about the last thing people wading in Action Comics #1 waters were looking at. It's an Action Comics #1 after all, the fact that is also said "White Pages" on the label is a happy bonus. (thumbs u Pretty much like with any slabbed comic, when you really think about it. Barring "Brittle", "Slightly Brittle", and maybe "Dark Tan" to "Tan", you can take "PQ" on the label with a grain of salt. I would never recommend paying a "premium" for it, because (barring some random BA or CA book that has "CR/OW pages" on the label) no "premium" can be consistently observed nor quantified. -J. The other 9.0 (CR/OW) sold for $2.16M. This 9.0 sold for $3.207. The WP made that book the best available copy. Had it had the same page quality as the Cage copy, no doubt in my mind it doesn't fetch the same amount. And resubbing a OW/W may get you a WP, but more than likely not. When you have WP, no resubbing necessary. You just can't make that assumption though. That price increase is in fact far more likely attributable to inflation and the fact that it was the first 9.0 to come to the public market in years. Nobody paid a "One Million Dollar" premium, just because the label says the book has "White Pages". In fact, the book was widely derided for being a "manufactured 9.0" over in the GA section. The book sold for what it sold because it is tied for being the highest graded copy of the most expensive comic book ever. It having "white pages" on the label is just a happy bonus. The book would have gotten what it got regardless IMO. No one can prove either way though. -J.

  18. Unfortunately whether or not "PQ" matters can only be addressed anecdotally. But I can pretty much assure you that any mainstream book with a high slab rate u name I can produce in grade sales results where there is no or very small difference in price based solely on "PQ". Why? Because it is just plain impossible to quantify or prove whether or not the "PQ" was the sole deciding factor as to why a book went for more or less. I don't think that the "PQ" affected the price on that action 1 in the least. And I certainly don't think it made a one million dollar difference. It's an action 1, the book would have likely sold for the same if it had "cream pages". But we can never actually know either way. As far as you 9.6 NM is concerned, sounds like it's worth a press re-sub. As for the turtles book, I'm thinking it will go for $8500ish. (thumbs u -J.
  19. PQ may hurt it a little. $7700 Really? You think "OW/W" is a "PQ" some people will frown upon? -J. Possibly. Seems people want WP on this book. Given how random and arbitrary CGC is with their "PQ", I have always found that to be an odd consideration in a buying decision. -J. Well, given a choice between two books, same grade, one with WP, one with OW/W, which do you choose? Price being the same I take the "WP". Would I pay more just for "WP"? Nope. Would I pass on a book that's fairly priced just because it is "OW/W"? Nope. Can the human eye actually discern the difference? Nope. Would the same "OW/W" book likely come back "WP" on a re-sub? Yup. -J. Book is sealed up. The only difference the human eye has to discern is what is on the label. It may not matter to you, but it does to others. You are aware there are PQ groupies, correct? "Buy the book not the label". Structural grade is easier to discern through a slab, "PQ" is not. Yes there are PQ groupies as u say, but their numbers are not great enough to move the price of a book either way, and the rarer, more key, etc the book is, the less it matters even to the groupies . It only takes one sale of a "CR/OW" book at a comparable or higher price to debunk the whole myth that it matters. That's why it's never wise to pay a premium "just because" it says "WP" on the label IMO. That, and because CGC is notoriously bad at grading "PQ" with any kind of consistency anyway. Not really their fault since it would be virtually impossible to do so anyway. My understanding they originally did not even want to have a "PQ" notation on labels. -J.
