  1. Taking pictures and reworking them with software to improve the quality is pretty common for those who do not have a scanner. Some people even have built lightboxes to remove the glare on the plastic when taking pictures ( something that is not that simple to fix correctly in post processing) A decent scanner and vue-scan - do this quickly and all at once and it is easy to batch process slabs.,.
  2. GOOD .... well - cuz I have a bunch of these stashed somewhere,
  3. With the bottom dropping out of video games I'll keep an eye on it but I want to try sports cards and I have a friend that might let me sell some of his cards. I also used to sell yugioh cards before. Why would your friend have you sell his sports cards when you know nothing about sports cards? pretty easy to figure that one out - drek! Boxes of cards that are not worth someones time as they have more profitable ventures - could be easily handed over to Gabe. Why not? If I had someone like him in my area - I would be putting them to work helping clear out low value books.
  4. He doesn't want insurance just a signature confirmation Uhmm the insurance should be for your own protection not his... This x100 Insurance is to protect seller - if a a package arrives damaged - the buyer has all kinds of protection. You should include this by default for any international shipment - especially for $100+ package......
  5. - sorry - my wording may have looked like I though you were one upping him I like your journal MUCH better ------ easier to share ideas, ..... The Shazams - interested to hear your take -- do you think they are worth slabbing? Why or why not?
  6. Nice haul - I would not try and make too many comparisons to Gabe - while I do not think he is a lost cause - he does not seem to grasp some of the long term strategies. So - fairly easy to "beat" him if you buy smart. The Shazams -- if indeed NM+ - pay for the whole day ( assuming they are the bronze age series) - if you CGC - they have been pretty steady at 170ish. Even if yo do not CGC- might be worth 100+ each on the bay. I do not know if you were thinking higher - but the infinity gauntlet surfer books should be at least $2 bins.
  7. I've definitely seen worse buys from him before. But for him to make any really money he will need the book to shoot up to the $200 range which is doubtful but possible. I'm thinking of listing it at $225 OBO on Ebay Worth a shot but considering that's about double what people were paying 10 days ago its a long shot. There does not look to be many copies out there so who knows. I like how he takes his friends advice as if it were written in stone when his friend is just making guesses like the rest of us I don't take his word as set in stone but with his track record I can't argue with it. and what is your track record for chasing hype books? what % of the time have you made money? I remember you calculated that for me I also color coded it in case you would not remember the number. Some people are more visual. here it is again in a simpler form :mad::mad::mad: red = the amount of times you have lost $$$ speculating on hype yellow is when you make money Look back again - you once wrote out the latest batch of your speculation books - why your buddy bought them - and how he bought them. There is a HUGE difference - I remember that a couple of the books - he paid cover or under - and one was in a collection he purchased. You - are taking his advice on speculation book - and paying essentially FMV or higher - after the price has risen a little. The only way his recommendations work - is if you get book CHEAP. He has no concerns - as you are adding to those paying on the upswing ( if there really is one) - and making sure there are plenty of high GPA prices struck on the books HE ALREADY HAS.

  9. Thanks for the reply. I do live driving distance to the grading companies. I'm actually more worried about the money pit pressing books that won't benefit can be. I definitely won't be fast tracking any of these books. I also agree in regards to pacing out books and what I listed is me pacing. I still have about 5 long boxes of silver age books I haven't even processed yet! It is part of a few very nice and mostly silver age collections I have gotten in over last few months. Driving distance is NICE - saves on shipping...... -- if you are close - might be worth asking to see if one of the CSS team will meet with you.... they might be able to go over a couple of the books and describe what they can improve. with GPA - pretty easy to see what a grade bump is worth alternately - post some pictures /scans in the grading/resto forum here - some of the pros ( joeypost is great) - can give you a good idea of what can be fixed from a press. After you see some results - you do get a good idea of what can be improved. From there --- really just a compare thing - as a small timer - I do not mind the fees but I have to be careful with what I slab. I usually make a list of possibles - then go to GPA to see what the minimum grade that makes sense to slab would be. I usually ( now anyway ) do not press/slab books that will sell for less than $200 --- I am confident enough in my grading to sell those raw- and do not mind the ebay return if someone is unhappy. Over that - I like them slabbed so my buyers are confident, and also for the grade bump a press can give. Example - some of your xmens - 100 9.2 101 8.5 102 9.6 103 9.6 --- I also consider what I paid for the book and if there is a quicker path to cash out even for less $$$. The above books - 102 and 103 I would not want to slab at all - as the minimum grade I would want is pretty high with little upside. If you press/slab a modern (1975 - so the listed xmen fall in that range) - you are paying around 30 a book non fast track. Related back to one of your posts --- how much do you want to put into the book and how long to wait - when you can sell quicker and make less $$$.. Those lower end books - will also probably be a higher margin raw anyway. 10$ into a collection book - sell for $80 raw or 150 slabbed.. Make 70 or 110 ( with $30 into press/slab) --- but margin is 85% vs 73% margin. If you have plenty of stock - churning through the books raw might be a better use of your time.
  10. Comiclink will also take raw - and they have the CGC slabbing service for appropriate books..... looking over a lot of the posts ( I typically sell on ebay as I am small time, ) --- it really is somewhat random as to what site will get you the most $$$$. Generally - heritage has the highest fees - so you make the least. If you have BIG books - they will negotiate fees with you. For the others - really has to be a combination of luck ( bidding wars) - and unique/hard to find books. Pressing/slabbing - usually best to do yourself ( or submit through one of your friends accounts) - that way you have more control of the process. If you have lots of books you want to get slabbed --- time them out! it is very tempting to pay the "fast track" fees to get them back quick - but that is a money pit, especially if you have a LOT to slab. Better to submit 20 (or whatever) books at a time - once a month - then you start getting back books on a regular basis.
  11. So buying a book under market and you can't sell it under market so your solution is to buy books OVER market and wait for the market to catch up...hopefully...one day...after an announcement or trailer...or something like that. Sense you have made much of. No the idea was to buy the comic under gpa by at least half but that didn't work out. Also this is black panther's 2nd app we're talking about here which is currently undervalued and 1st app of Klaw. No mess it didn't work out. Did someone hold a gun to your head and say you have to buy this book or else? So what if its currently undervalued. You are playing the same game you were playing last buy. A lottery game that ST would "increase" or that DV3 would "increase" you have to hold these books for MONTHS without ever being able to put them on the market. Not necessarily you can always it up for cheaper then your competition and sell it off that way. Yes I'll have to wait months on them but the other times are because I fully didn't listen to my friend I'll give you examples DV 3 - His Advice Buy them as cheap as you can What I did I bought them 3 days later after he told me and the price was already hyped up What he did Contacted local lcs's and bought under cover price and was buying them under the radar for a year now. ST157 His advice Buy copies you find cheap but only buy one or two be careful What I did Bought the first copy I saw that was cheap What he did Only purchased them in lots with other comics FF53 Buy them as it's undervalued and a no brainer and undervalued What I did Bought copies about two years ago and a 7.0 recently What he did Buys copies cheap and lowballs if they say no he walks away if they don't he buys them Who is this anonymous sage? Is he a boardie? A Facebook pal? Also, are you "no longer/taking a break from buying" because your PayPal account is drained? He's my facebook friend and he's much smarter then myself and yes for now I'm taking a break because my paypal account is drained until I sell more comics or video games You should hope that nobody submits for a refund. If you are out of funds - what will you do?
  12. Nov-04-2016 $115 Aug-28-2016 $79 Aug-28-2016 $113 last 90 days........
  13. On a consistent basis I don't have a list like other people buy I just buy what's hot a very rarely a non hot key for a good price. So - I am no longer giving any advice - too tired of being ignored - but general statements Iceman - that is a very good strategy. It sounds like if you know what to look for and keep a solid list - consistent money can be had in this game. Gabe - I did the math for you earlier - you may have forgotten - chasing hype books - you fail (lose money) about 89% of the time.
  14. I assume the OP was factoring in the cost of comics in his profit calculation. Yeah, sitting behind a table is work, but probably more fun than sitting before a desk in an office. On the other hand, I was happy to sell 20,000 for 10 cents each rather than trying to lug long boxes to a con and try to sell them in $1 boxes. he did - that is why I was listing it as a good example.... like dox - I see a lot of people using funny math (not just here) - good to see a more complete version
  15. correct -- generally --- the newer issues are less scarce so not much of a bump (if any) older ones - key issues may see a 15-25% bump - non keys might not see much (5-10%)- but will move faster.
  16. the above is a good lesson in the economics of shows - the above is a great result - but then you have to move 20 longboxes to get there. Pike - do you tend to move that many of the lower tier books? Also --- for the bulk bins - how do you make the distinction between $1 and $2 books?
  17. and THIS is one of the things too many miss - Cons can be fun - but it takes a LOT of $$$ just to set up. You invest 4k into a show - sell 5k in merch - unless you are the best "buyer" of all times, you have a loss on your hands...... Even on a smaller scale - if you have $600 into a small (medium?) show - you need to sell ~$1200 just to break even. Gator posted a similar analysis of one of his con setups some time ago - might be interesting to look his up and compare notes.
  18. lit up with my resto check flashlight - the phone camera does not do it justice
