  1. That #110 is one of my favorite Avengers covers. I just love all of the bright colors on that cover! That book looks familiar.
  2. Yeah, it's pretty nice in hand too. I saw it at a con this past fall and kept touch with the seller since. It's got gorgeous inks in hand and may even a look a bit better than the scan shows. Don't see how I could go wrong with this sweet copy.
  3. Well I got rid of my previous copy which had a lot of history and memories behind it but I am thrilled to say that I've replaced it with this gorgeous specimen. All I can say is wow. I can't wait to have it in hand.
  4. Really? I would think the opposite...from Action #1 to Batman #1 to Superman #1 to Marvel Comics #1 to whatever end issue you want to cover the hero being static and motionless is the exception and not the rule. I agree. The thing that got everyone's attention in the GA was the hero in action and that is why so many people suggested Schomburg's covers...there just wasn't any more action to be found in any other artist's covers. R.
  5. Jeff, don't you think that the book chosen should represent the Golden Age as it was back then and not how we view the Golden Age today which is quite differently? I think there are many CM books that should contend personally. He was representative of pretty much an entire decade. I would also nominate Action #23 BTW.
  6. Good idea. Although I love early Schomburg above all other GA cover artists, we are looking for a book, not just a cover...and, well...Schomburg's WW 2 covers only covered 1/2 the 1940's so they can't be representative of the entire Golden Age. The book IMO needs to be something that transcends just the early 40's... So definitely superhero, definitely patriotic, childish (in a good way) is a must and creative. I would like to nominate several Whiz Comics and Captain Marvel Adventures issues but I can't decide which ones. Captain Marvel was obviously the biggest hero of the Golden Age until he was taken down unfairly and he embodies every element of the Golden Age. We should at the very least vote down the best books from these two titles to compete with any others in my opinion. I would also strongly nominate Marvel Mystery #9 for obvious reasons. Very key, classic cover, classic story, classic artists...not dated to the early 40's as many other books are but rather way ahead of it's time. What do you guys think?
  7. I agree. It aslo absolutely has to be Superman or Batman. They started the whole thing, and are the true icons of the age. National media could not care less about the other heroes. Nor would they mean anything to the non comic buying public If it were a Silver Age question, then Spidey. You know Bill, it could even be a Captain Marvel or a Timely Schomburg. There are just so many incredible covers..Whiz #1, 12, 13, Mystic #4, Daring Mystery #3,4,5, Marvel Mystery #5, 9, Captain Marvel Adventures #1, 2....just so many covers....they are all timeless and reminiscent of the era. We should somehow get a list of nominations together and then vote on it.
  8. It absolutely has to be a superhero cover....and it has to be timeless even though the cover is dated...not that I don't like the non superhero covers but really....the GA was the GA because of the hero. R.
  9. I personally love the way his face is drawn, the way the whole bridge comes crashing down for one car and the fact that I own this copy. Sorry to dis-appoint you.
  10. Just started a thread about this but what the heck I'll post it here too. One of my favorite covers of the run and I happen to nail the Church copy.
  11. Got some GA up for sale..some old and some new in the marketplace. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2843340&fpart=1 GA highlights are as follows for all you lazy buggers. Church copy. $165. 8.5 $200. 1.5 $700 6.5 $425 5.5/6.0
  12. I can't believe the amount of great books here. It used to be there would be about 100-200 new posts in a day....now I get from work and there are 300 new posts. This place has become come to attract a lot of traffic.
  13. Listen, foo' I'm competin', Take your band and their empty bleatin' Hide your books, they'll all junk. Stay off line and stay a happy drunk.
  14. I'm going to post a few old books that haven't sold at reduced prices and some new stuff including some mid to higher grade early JIM thors. R.
  15. I agree with this but remember that some of these people that no longer post in any other forums used to a lot at one time... I do disagree with people JUST using these forums for revenue and not offering anything else substantial. R.
  16. Rez, now you're starting to tell me people what they can and cannot sell (and who can and cannot sell) and this is a non issue. There are very few restrictions on who should sell and what they should sell. Try not to go off on a tangent. Too much talking...bad. Too many comics to choose from...not bad.
  17. Easily the Adventure #40. MUCH better cover, higher grade, unrestored. 1st Batman sure, but not pretty to look at and that is very important to me. (thumbs u
  18. Kudos to MikeS. The guy goes above and beyond...highly recommended. (thumbs u
  19. Well, not quite "easy" my friend. In today's market, either of the two 9.0s (one of which is a "potentialized" 7.5, if memory serves) would have a hard time breaking $30k. I'm with you, as a high grade Timely nut, I'd happily take the MMC # 2 over the AA # 16. But I have no problems admitting that the AA # 16 is by far the more significant book, with the higher investment ceiling (especially if the Mile High 9.4 ever sells for over $1 mil, as rumored). I didn't check the census and so didn't realize there were two 9.0's. I too agree that AA #16 is an important book. I also happen to collect restored books so I know a thing or two about them...great value for the money...but I'm not so sure in today's $$ that this book would be worth more than the MMC #2. To me a #2 book is an extremely important book in that it keeps the #1 issue from being a one shot. Extremely important in keeping the series going. Imagine seeing the image of #2 on the stands...an entire city self destructing while the costume hero steals a lift from an airplane...those primary colors make all the difference in the world to a youngster. I'd still take the MMC #2. I'm a Marvel Zombie.
  20. That's a no brainer. MMC #2. Super tough book and impossible to find....and to find one unrestored, highest grade? That's got to be a $50,000 book today. Easy. Even money aside, I'll take an unrestored book over a restored one. R.
  21. Hey gang, as most of you know I committed to Adam's MMC #2 so I need to shed a few books. This is a tough one to let go as I just got it but I posted it in the market place if anyone is interested.
  22. Thanks guys. I'm not really able to afford all of these books and Adam's MMC #2 which came up unexcpectedly is really a book that fits in my collecting focus so I'll probably be letting a few more books go soon to fund my little buying binge. It's a pretty cover though and I'll likely read it tonite.
