  1. No. There has been exactly 1 sale of a blue label #1 in CGC 9.8 that cracked $1k - and that was last year. Considering several other copies sold at around the same time for $800-900, it's safe to say that the $1,130 sale was an outlier. Sixth Gun #1's in 9.8 were selling for close to $1k (I'm pretty sure there was a $1k sale here on the boards) back when that series was optioned. I'm responding in bold type, to make this format easier to read. As far as the Sixth Gun breaking the $1K price in CGC 9.8, you are correct.BUt sales of this book at/around $100 were transient as efffffff. Also, if the 1994 Preacher Preview wasn;t around to steal "market share" as the first appearance of Jesse Custer, I firmly believe Preacher #1 would be selling for a couple hundred more than it sells at.But that is neither here or there. Sixth Gun #1 is much unlike Preacher #1, which has hit around a G-Ball in CGC 9.8 and Preacher #1 has not dipped below its' average price point in GPA ( around $800 in 9.8) since it stated blowing up back when the first Preacher trailer played during the Walking Dead in 11/2015. Preacher hit $800-$1050 in 11/2015.We are now going on SIX MONTHS of Preacher #1 holding an average of $800 in 9.8.Sixth Gun #1 never came close to that feat.In other words, Preacher #1 has strayed far beyond the typical price point of 1st issue movie/TV books; which is usually in the $200-$400 range. GPA tells the story much more succinctly than I do, no need to take my word for it;) I will post the figures at the end of this post but to sum it up, Sixth Gun lasted only a couple weeks at/around $800-$1000 in 9.8. Preacher 1 has held its $800 average value for well more than ten times as long as Sixth Gun #1 ever did, and Preacher #1 only seems to show a steady uptick, to reinterate my point. Slabbed copies started to pick up steam at the end of 2013 / beginning of 2014, yeah, but raw copies didn't creep up till later - I was still easily picking up raw copies for $30 a pop in 2014. I haven't focused on buying Preacher 1's intil late 2014.I did not see any copies floating around in late 2014, anywhere near $30.I remember seeing raw NM's at shows at around $100. I passed at that price, twice.I'd pay $100 for a raw NM Preacher 1 in a second, now....and if these are raw NM-pressable to 9.8 candidates....sheeeit, I'll pay 4200 for pressable copies all day long....send a brotha a PM, already;) Seriously, Preacher is likely my favorite comic of all time, buuuuuut what in God's name are you doing with 20 raw copies, just sitting around? Just curious. The census has almost quadrupled since 11/2013 and shows no sign of slowing down - a clear indicator that there's plenty of raw copies out there. Heck, I still have 20+ raw copies in my own collection. It makes absolute sense that the census has doubled since 11/2013.When a book starts selling for $800-$900 with no resistance, everybody who has a raw HG copy lying around will jump right on and ride that gravy train. That is my point, the people who want to make money without any tangible risk, cash in as soon as they see their pony hitting $800 easily. They take their pony to have its coat washed and its nails done, before they put it out for the Annual Pony Show, to find a buyer. In this pony's case, CCS & CGC are handling the coat washing & primping details, but it all boils down to the same thing. A lot of people want to make a quick buck at first opportunity, that sums up the flipper mentality in a nutshell. The census is at around 425 copies in 9.8 and 425 copies in 9.6. It was already low to begin with, and it is still relatively low. Preacher 1 blue 9.8 brings around $800 in eBay auction, when sellers don't list it at BIN.To have a book sell at auction on eBay....not Heritage,Comic Link or Comic Connect...but eBay, briskly at around $800 is a clear sign that the demand for Preacher 1 is strong and that demand outweighs supply, when the book is sold/priced at $800.It is still increasing in straight up dollar value at 9.8, AFTER the CGC census has already DOUBLED. Not directly related but hte last sale of a CGC SS was $1375 in eBay auction, a couple weeks back.Signed only by Fabry and here was no sketch, IIRC. As far as the GPA figures on Preacher 1 and Sixth Gun 1 are concerned.....,posting them up will have to wait. That is a monumental copy/paste job. It is 12:23 on a Saturday morning as I type this and I have to go to bed.
  2. Hmm, can you post up a linky to the sniping program that you use?
  3. Both Marvel and DC charging an extra 25% for newsstand copies only shows that distribution of mewsstands was lower than direct copies. So, they had to charge more to recoup printing costs and turn a profit. If they were charging more, thinking of after market prices....the books would be marketed with a red and white "variant cover" box , on the cover and likely price them at $9.99 a pop.As the distribution would be in newsstands, sales probably would have been slower at that big of a mark up. Ironically, this would have presented a new craze on the aftermarket and a month or 2 after the red/white variant cover/cash in by Marvel UPC editions were put forth.....odds are they would start being chased down...much more than they currently are...and Marvel would have no issue selling newsstands at 10 bucks a pop. This is not the case, there is no manufactured collectible element at hand. That is why, over the long term, I believe that newsstand copies in HG will prove to yield considerably more resale value, in the years to come. The idea of newsstands having more value over direct copies has only come about in the past....what, 2 or 3 years? How long did it take for 35 cent and Whitman pre-pack variants to see large upticks in realized prices, after they were brought to light by collectors and dealers as genuinely scarce books? 5 years, at least, I am guessing. Once more collectors realize the scarcity of HG newsstands, that is when will we see realized prices really start to escalate.
  4. 80's newsstands are not rare, except HG copies. This is a simplistic statement but fpor the most part, it is accurate enough to make a point. As far as rarity of newsstands goes, in HG...by HG, I mean 9.6/9.8, it is fairly easy to determine the rarity of any given book...or at least, any given book that has 100 or more copies in the census, between 9.6 and 9.8. It looks to be around 1 in 20.Or less. Case in point: http://Support-the-Collectors-Society.com/itm/Suicide-Squad-1-DC-1987-CGC-NM-MT-9-8-White-Pages-/351715258599?nav=WATCHING_ACTIVE Pull up a search under Suicide Squad 1 CGC 9.6 9.8 1987.....you'll see 20 or so listings, with one newsstand in the bunch. A CGC 9.6 newsstand last sold for $311.....a cgc 9.8 newsstand sold for $359, a month before. Both books had excellent wraps, as does this copy. I have had 3 cgc 9.8 newsstands out of a total of 10 newsstand copies of this book I had graded... all of the books had at least a little bit of white showing.Unlike this Heritage eBay listing.FWIW, I got $325 for a slightly off centered newsstand cgc 9.8, recently....but that was via BIN, not an auction listing. So, centering of copper newsstands is definitely an issue, almost as much as the grade disparity between 9.6 and 9.8. Not so much an issue with newer newsstands i.e. Batman New52's don't have dual toned front/back covers so getting off centered wraps is for the most part, a non-issue. As far as a run of Batman52 newsstands and a run of Batman 1:50 variant covers is concerned, I think both would be fairly difficult to put together. If you are just looking for a CGC 9.8 run, my guess is that you'll be looking much longer. If you are looking for off grade runs, I think the newsstand would be easier/cheaper to put together. You'd have to wade through a lot of listings on eBay to find the newsstands in decent grades, as most sellers are not aware. I think CGC and the other grading company should differentiate on their respective labels for books i.e. newsstand and direct market editions. I am not holding my breath for this to occur, though. It would likely require oodles of man hours to update the labels on every single book they grade, from the early 1980's to present, and intil newsstands are recognized as "bonafide" variants, CGC and Voldemort will not spend the time updating their labels, I'd wager.
  5. Thks mate DennisRodmanofSS jammed anoother boardie up, IIRC. r it was you who got the business end from this character...it's probably a dozen pages back. The boardie he jammed up didn't nominate him, although said boardie did not confirm that DennisRodmanofSS actually came through on the deal. I'm not a board elder but 'd vote in your favor, if you nominate DennisRodmanofSS.
  6. No. There has been exactly 1 sale of a blue label #1 in CGC 9.8 that cracked $1k - and that was last year. Considering several other copies sold at around the same time for $800-900, it's safe to say that the $1,130 sale was an outlier. Responding in bold....You're right...although there were several sales between $950-$990. Sixth Gun #1's in 9.8 were selling for close to $1k (I'm pretty sure there was a $1k sale here on the boards) back when that series was optioned. I was not aware of Sixth Gun.However, you bringing it up, actually proves my point. Preacher has been averaging $800 in 9.8 since 11/2015.....a decent amount of 9.8 copies have sold in the past 6 months. Sixth Gun had a GPA high of about $950, then successively dropped off VERY quickly. As in like a handful of 9.8's sold at/around $800 , then the book vanished into obscurity, over the following months.Last sale of a 9.8 was a whopping $65. I will post up all of the GPA figure, for all years available, in 9.8 , for Preacher 1 in 9.8...to show the muktiple growth curves/spike of the book, shortly. For contrast, I'll post up the very short run of Sixth Gun 1 sales in 9.8. Slabbed copies started to pick up steam at the end of 2013 / beginning of 2014, yeah, but raw copies didn't creep up till later - I was still easily picking up raw copies for $30 a pop in 2014. The census has almost quadrupled since 11/2013 and shows no sign of slowing down - a clear indicator that there's plenty of raw copies out there. Heck, I still have 20+ raw copies in my own collection.
  7. You're probably referring to the same issue that plagues Sandman #1's. 90's Vertigo books had weird paper stock...and the books with higher page counts like Sandman 1 and Preacher 1, tend to exhibit a pronounced degree of spine flecking, what I call Vertigo fuzziness. The spines are more prone to fuzziness, IOW light flecking. Not quite seperation, but it looks like partial tearing/seperation along the length of the spines. I believe that is why we have yet to see a Preacher 1 graded at 9.9. There has been a Sandman 1 graded at 9.9 by CGC, due to the fact Sandman 1 has had more copies subbed....and didn't also have a black cover. As far as NWO's easy time with buying and subbing Preacher 1's.....GPA shows otherwise. Then again, this is a guy who offered up like 12 copies of new mutants #98 on the forum in one sales thread recently and has a clear knack for slabbing copper keys for cgc 9.8's Either way, his experience would be the exception.
  8. Far as buying raw 9.8's off eBay for 15 bucks back in 2014, dunno how that was possible as cgc 9.8's were selling for an average of around $550-$600, in 2014. Not saying you didn't do that but it would have been the exception i.e. buy it now prices from sellers who didn't know better. Anytime raw 9.8's were auctioned, no way you'd be able to win them at 15 bucks in 2014. Even in 2012, Preacher 1 was a $200 book , slabbed in 9.8.
  9. Sell before the pilot airs - just like for every other TV show that isn't named Walking Dead. But what if it becomes as popular as WD? It doesn't matter WD is WD - every other TV show based on a comic book property has followed pretty much the same pattern and it has made no difference whether the show ended up being good/popular or not. That is my thoughts well. I had 6 Preacher #1's CGC 9.8's. I already sold 4 of them, and was holding back 2 till the show started. I can see couple sales of 1k for a CGC 9.8 of #1 but I just don't see how the book will be as popular as WD #1. -higher print run -only 66 issues -limited marketability -religious undertone which leads to controversy Several blue 9.8's have cracked $1000-$1130 already, in GPA.There has not been any comic book TV or movie adaptation that has hit the $1000 mark for a first issue, except WD 1....as far as I know. Preacher has been hot for the better part of 3 years, not just a year and change. The 1st sale of a cgc 9.8 to surpass $500 , was a blue cgc 9.8, sold for $650 on 11/22/2013. I dunno about the scarcity of the book in 9.8 opposed to WD 1 in 9.8, the census isn't that reliable. But one has to think that a decent amount of HG copies have already been subbed, since rumors of the show started escalating prices from an average of $150ish in CGC 9.8 to $450, back in 11/2013. You also have to account for the number of copies in CBCS slabs so again, the census has to be taken with a grain of salt. Far as your other points, you may have a point on the 66 issue limited run.But there is plenty to draw from over the 66 issue run, and just like the WD , the show will not be a scene for scene remake. The religous undertone, leading to controversy...will probably help garner interest-not hurt the show. WRT limited markability, I would have to disagree. Look at how AMC markets their shows. From WD, Mad Men, Breaking Bad & the Goodman spinoff, The Night Manager...they generally don't put out shows that are not very well received. Here is a good example, a set of stills were put out a few days ago...and both of the trailers linked from this page are genuinely as striking/creepy/unsettling as can be. http://www.gamespot.com/images/1300-3054570
  10. If your book isn't "heating up" per se, it seems to be selling well at whatever price you have set. You gave full disclosure that you are involved with this book, and were understandably shameless in your plugging and proud that it has caught on. So congratulations on a successful launch. If there was less jaundiced cynicism on these boards , more people would have told you the same thing. -J. +1
  11. My crystal ball may or may not be a mystical item, capable of producing images of speculators cashing in and doing lines off of a hot 21 year old escorts' bewbs or hanging themselves in fleabag motels. However, I did travel to the murky depths of Asia to obtain it from an odd man, with a sagely aura. Sadly, I lack the ability to wield any mystical properties it may or may not convey.
  12. More so, 3 people paid $36 each for this plagiaristic mess. What dafuq ?? TMNT 2 is not in the public domain, it looks like a group of sketchy characters got together and had a no name artist produce cover art...and put his no name signature on it. They then had a print shop reprint the interior of TMNT 2, with a new cover, in an attempt to circumvent copyright issues. The cover swipe out was done to generate some quick cash, nothing more. It is essentially a bootlegged book, put out by a few hacks who decided to produce the book under the guise of a "fan site" i.e. an attempt at a tribute via an untraceable source. All done to to squeeze money out of buyers who lack common sense. IMHO, the book isn't worth the paper it has been printed on and it should result in a copyright infringement lawsuit.
  13. The fact that the image is not clickable is not a good sign. If online tracking doesn't show it as shipped within the seller's stated shipping time frame, open a case.
  14. I want to bump this guy, 2012captainjack. I wish I saw this posting. Won a low $$ WD slab from me. He receives the book and initiates a return as item not as advertised and damaged plus he states he didn't receive it in time for his "gift giving party". OK, whatever, I accept the return and even pay for the return shipping. FTR I had received a bunch of new slabs from CGC and pack very securely but I aim to please so accept the return no questions asked. Over a month goes by with no book, contact ebay to let them know about the unreturned item case still open. Next day I get a Neg from him stating no communication & no feedback. All communication was sent through the return he initiated! Sent him a note stating the situation so he proceeds to tell me that the neg was for no communication, no respect and no feedback. I tell him I'd leave him the FB if and when I get the book back. Fortunately I don't make my living selling comics and if he comes back with some other BS to remove the neg I will give him a nicely worded FU. No way I'll be blackmailed. I'm hating ebay more and more these days. Follow the link for "Report Buyer" on this page: http://www.pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/seller-protection/report-a-buyer.html Do not respond to any other message he may send you, outside of the directions given in the Report Buyer process. State everything you said here in the report. I would also PM the other boardie and ask him to follow through with the "report Buyer" process. Two reports of this sort of behavior on the buyer's part will show up in his ebay history page, this will help the eBay rep wise up that the buyer is scamming multiple sellers. It is more than likely that a lot of sellers have been scammed by him, you just need to bring this to eBay's attention. The best thing to do is probably to open the Report Buyer case and then call ebay.Tell the rep you want your money back, you do not believe he will return the slab...and state that if he does return a box, it may be stuffed with 2 pounds of newspaper. I think any reasonable ebay rep will see what's going on and they will then escalate the case for you.
  15. Gator, I'd like to get your opinion on Two-Gun Kid # 60 and your thoughts on OPG and CGC labels giving two price spreads on this book wnoting that handwritten I believe that the OPG and CGC Label Notes are incorrect, regarding their report on copies with a typeset issue number on cover existing. Overstreet lists the prices of "edition with hand written issue number on cover" as marginally higher than a typeset copy. Overstreet Price Guide reads as: 60-New origin GD $11 VG $22 FN $33 VF $76 VF/NM $163 NM- $250 60-Edition w/handwritten issue number on cover $ GD $12 VG $24 FN $36 VF $82 VF/NM $179 NM- $275 CGC Label Notes read as: Origin & 1st Appearance Of The New Two-Gun Kid (Matt Hawk) Copies exist with handwritten issue number. My question is, have you *ever* seen a copy of this book that had a typeset "60" in the issue number box? I have not. Every #60 I have seen has a handwritten 60 on the front cover.
  16. Not to beat a dead horse but I agree. Technically the buyer committed to each book separately and then backed out. But he bought each book BEFORE anybody else claimed it with . So if he DID purchase both books before anybody, both would technically be his if he's forced to buy the other. You can't say he claimed to buy the books, but then say he can't buy one and HAS to the buy the other. He claimed both books via PM but there was no PM sent to jsilverjanet. Then the #11 sold. In the mean time (after the #11 sold) he stated that his PM was only to confirm shipping and Paypal. Technically, the #11 sold fairly and the #12 was still committed to him if jsilverjanet was willing to ship to him and to accept Paypal. And if it was me, personally I'd have followed through and taken the #12 under these circumstances if I was the potential buyer even if I lost the #11. That's the way I see it. But by the buyers own admission he added the "per pm" in there just to obtain paypal and shipping charges(as Swick has pointed out several times) then failed to send a PM. The first book went to the next buyer in line which it should have been the case. The second book was not claimed so therefore he should have still proceeded with that sale. It's what any upstanding boardie would/should do. Agree to disagree? I'm not saying the buyer is right. Personally, I would've bought the book once Hector contacted me. All I was trying to say is that in this particular case, it's a little more odd and different than a normal buyer saying and then backing out. The buyer caused *more* aggravation with his not sending a PM and his per PM I'll take it drivel...in this case, he caused Hecor more of a headache than otherwise. if the buyer sent the PM and Hector didn't receive it, WTF was it sent to??? Makes me think that is BS on the buyer's part, right there...even if it was sent to Hector, doesn't matter. He committed to buying the book Hector posted that he needed to sell the books yesterday and he had them all pretty much below FMV i.e. priced to move that day. The books were priced low to start with, looks like the buyer wanted the lowest possible deal on two books, while saving more money on combined shipping......and with with his "conditions" and lack of an actual PM being sent, he not only dicked Hector over by not following through on his word but caused Hector additional grief with his weaseling out tactics and annoying excuses.
  17. This happens a lot. I believe it happened with a Nyx #3 and a Batman #1 of mine. If ebay gets enough reports from sellers that sa specific ebay buyer is switching out books, they will suspend the buyer. It hasn't happened to me. A buddy of mine sold a stone cold Deadpool #1 raw NM a while back....like a year and a half ago, this happened. Buyer had low or no feedback, the buyer sent the book back to my friend for a refund. My buddy received a beat to hell, folded over VG copy....a copy with a 3 inch corner fold....something that would be literally impossible to happen during shipping. Initially eBay decided in the buyer's favor and my buddy's out a $100 book, a $100 sale..., has a $10 book in its place. A couple months later he finally got a refund from eBay The buyer apparently did that to a few other ebay sellers, he was kicked off of eBay.And after a couple of months of waiting, my buddy got his $100 back. eBay has started to cut out this automatic "the buyer is always right, even if the buyer is obviously crooked" nonsense over the past few months. Positive changes for Designated Seller Ratings also went into effect, this month.
  18. I don't know the seller you're referncing...or even bothered to look at who you're talking about but I would not send payment via Friends & Family unless I either personally KNEW the seller or had plenty of good reason to TRUST the seller. There is absolutely nothing to stop him from cancelling a friends & family payment, after he gets notification from you that the book has been shipped. I don't buy much off this board, but the 6-9 or so times I have bought from boardies off here, I'll send via F & F, without being asked. Just b/c I know the boardie I'm buying from has been around a while and he isn't going to screw me so I may as well put the 3% into his pocket and I'd rather see a boardie get an extra couple bucks out of a deal......than stuff any more damn money into Paypal's coffers, than I already do, every month when I pay my eBay/Paypal seller's fees.
  19. Not sure if this has been posted yet but I thought it was pretty nifty. Tom Cruise makes a small cameo in the first episode as a Scientology preacher, says a few lines...and then his head violently explodes: http://www.ew.com/article/2016/03/14/preacher-tom-cruise-sxsw http://www.comicbookresources.com/article/tom-cruise-makes-an-explosive-appearance-in-the-preacher-pilot http://comicbook.com/2016/03/14/something-bad-happens-to-tom-cruise-in-preacher-pilot/
  20. Back to the topic of moderns heating up... ...sold my Miracleman 12 CGC 9.4 for $125 this past week.2 days later, saw a raw NM sell for $250 Or Best Offer. I messaged the seller and asked what the book sold at. He told me he accepted a best offer of $102.50.
  21. The last time I set up at that show was about a year and a half ago..... I went there last month.Didn't find all that much...got a run of Boys #1-10 for a quarter a piece, though. I live 30 minutes away, so it's usually worth the trip. I'll be there next month, just walking the room. You should introduce yourself, if you see me.
  22. I am looking into doing a show out in the midwest, maybe towards the end of the year. Next show I'm setting up at, somewhat close to your area, is the Mohegun Sun. Shows in my area are pretty much *not* worth setting up at. There are a couple exceptions....Eternal Con, Big Apple Con,WinterCon....and a small show in Cherry Hill NJ, that is held quarterly. Won't be setting up at Wizard Philly, most likely. Bam....end of list. Other shows, in my area I just go to to BUY. From a business stand point, this makes sense to me. Albeit your harsh tone. Sad but true. As the old adage goes: Desperate times call for desperate measure That doesnt mean its smart, but if a dealer had a slew of bad turnouts at cons, he still has to go back home and feed his family Yeah, agreed with you both, on both counts. Whenever I have a bad show, I think about some sagely advice that Al Stolz of Basement Comix relayed to me and a couple dealer friends of mine, years ago while we were talking shop at a small con. "No matter how bad a show is, never blow out". I've held fast to that tidbit, actually somewhat to Al's chagrin, when he's offered to buy books from my wall at shows.I counter his offer with that qoute, actually..he gets a lil chuckle out of that. I offer my table stock at competitive prices ( I don't carry .50 cent or $1 books) ...and I will cut (and virtually always do) a few bucks off virtually any sale, just to be friendly and build a repoire with buyers.Even if I am not asked, ...and I know that the buyer pulled out books that were already priced on the low end, I'll shave 10% off his stack.Or if he goes to town and picks 30 SA books out of my $10's, I'lleither give him 5 books for free or knock $50 off the tab. I'll tell a guy to pick a book out of my $3 boxes for free, after he buys two of my $5 books.........or a single $10 book, and he pays me. People remember those sorts of gestures. If somebody ever wants to buy out all of my table stock, they can have it for twenty five cents on the dollar. Hell, I'd be happy to get .33 cents on the dollar in trade value, towards bigger ticket books or slabs. When you coming to the midwest? At those deals I'd buy from you.
  23. You can find the exact same bags direct from the dealer and save a TON of money. You can either spend nearly a dollar a piece from the dealer on eBay or 14 cents a piece from the factory. Seems like a no-brainer to me! Try THIS LINK for more information. Thanks. Are these these Mylite-esque* or are they polybags? * I know they are not Mylite bags as gerber holds the patent...but are they a close facsimile?
  24. That looks like an homage to Preacher 16. Right down to the yellow lighting on the left side and the background colors. http://www.comics.org/issue/59141/cover/4/ Yup, it is. AMC released another homage to the cover of Preacher #3. Cassidy with a creepy smile.
