    Just curious...

We see stories like this many, many times. We've been told by CGC on many, many occasions (not to mention that official announcement) that this 'no redirects' rule is for our own good - I believe the exact wording is always something like "...to protect the security of your returning collectibles and they cannot be removed or amended."

I was wondering ... before this rule went into effect, had any member had a problem (or know of someone who had a problem)  with the security of their packages that this 'no redirects' rule would've prevented?

Not I.  But there must have been a few bad apples.  Which of course spoils it for all  *sigh*

So, FedEx attempted delivery today, and I am pretty much never at home when FedEx comes, so I assumed I'd be able to redirect delivery to my local FedEx location. BUT, it won't let me do that, saying that the shipper won't allow it. So...what do I do? I know that there was a hubbub when CGC announced they were exclusively switching to FedEx, but I haven't subbed anything for a couple of years, so I didn't realize that also meant that they wouldn't even let you redirect the books.

I have no idea what I'm going to do at this point. I will surely miss their delivery tomorrow, so that means I'll have to sit by the door all day Saturday. I really, truly hate FedEx. I had a ComicLink shipment right before xmas, and while they let me hold one package at a Walgreens, they wouldn't release the other one for some reason. So, I had to sit and wait, and on the third day, I watched out the window as the FedEx truck pulled up to my house...opened the door...then shut the door and took off. Didn't even pretend to attempt delivery. And this happens ALL OF THE TIME. So, I ran out on the porch and when he turned around I flagged him down. Again...I hate FedEx.

So...does anyone know, do I have any options here, or do I just have to pray that FedEx actually tries to deliver the package while I'm there waiting for it?

This worked for me when I ran into the same situation.  I was able to get the phone number of the local FedEx hub and called them.  Like you, I asked what my options were.  I spoke to a manager and he said my only other option was to ask them to hold it at their facility and I could come pick it up myself.  Which I did seeing as how my local hub is only a few miles from me.  Yes, another hoop to jump through but it got the job done.  Good luck.

I just noticed while tracking my submission which is currently in Grading / Encapsulation / Imaging that one of the books I submitted is mislabeled as being a book with a similar title from a completely different publisher. The book I sent is one that isn't currently in the census. I assume someone just selected the closest name to what they saw on the cover or something. Has anyone else run into this or had trouble submitting books that aren't in the census?

I sent a message about it through the contact page but I'm worried I'm going to get the book back with the wrong label and have to resubmit.

I'm glad to hear CGC corrected your title.  I have run into this MANY times in the past.  When I have a book I want to have graded and I do not see it in the Online Submission drop down list, I enter the book manually.  And it's in pure black and white on the packing slip.  I don't know if it's Receiving or some other group that enters the information into Submission Tracking but it's been my experience that the books you enter in manually?  It's like no one even bothered to look at the packing slip.  So what's the point?  Whoever enters the books doesn't seem very detail oriented or they don't know what they're looking at and they just put down something other than what's on the packing slip.  And when you contact customer service, they tell you the graders will catch it and correct it.  HA!  Not in some submissions I've sent in.  The graders miss it too and I end up with a ME.

To cap off my little rant, I once called CGC Customer Service to report a problem and the agent I spoke with asked for my patience because she didn't know anything about comics.  Oy vey.

    @workingdog

    Good Morning!

These variants are created and added to our online submission form after a copy of that specific variant has been received into the system and been graded or sent through CCS. Because of this, our receiving team may have added them as the same book when it was first received. I am sorry for the inconvenience.

This cover variant has now been added to our submission from as you can see below and your submission 4188185 has been updated to accurately represent the correct variant. Sorry for the delay! As always let me know if you have any other issues like this.

Now THIS, this is the actions of someone who goes above and beyond for which I am very grateful.  Thank you, Matt, for all that you did (and do).

All the best to you, sir!!

  5. For anyone who might be submitting the Batman 131 Quesada variant covers (both pictured below), the Color version will show up in Submission Tracking as Batman 131 3/23 D.C. Comics Variant Cover. At the same time, the Quesada Sketch/B&W version will also show up as Batman 131 3/23 D.C. Comics Variant Cover. No distinction between the two.  I've called CS, even posted a question in Ask CGC the latter of which was basically a blow off reply.

I see a ME coming my way.  :frustrated:

    Hello!

If this needs to be updated, our Graders will do it when it hits the grading stage of the certification process. They will verify the books and ensure that they are labeled correctly for you. Thank you for reaching out.

"If?"  There is no "if."  I just gave you examples of both covers.  In fact, the Quesada Sketch Edition isn't even listed in the drop down for Batman 131 (again, please see attached pic).

@MattM CS - Can you please speak to this?  Thank you.

  7. Hi,

I've attached below the two Quesada variant covers for Batman 131.  One in Color and the other a Sketch.  I submitted these books under two different submissions.  In Submission Tracking, submission 4188169, the colored version was relabeled "Batman 131 3/23 D.C. Comics Variant Cover."  Ok, no problem.

However the Sketch version in Submission 4188185, line item 4, was also labeled "Batman 131 3/23 D.C. Comics Variant Cover."  Shouldn't it be labeled Batman 131 Quesada Sketch Edition or something to that effect?

Please fix this so I do not end up with an ME.

    Thank you.

It's a combination of two things:

One, we use a system from Chase called Positive Pay that's an anti-fraud measure because previously we've had problems with people trying to pass forged checks against our account. With Positive Pay, we report to Chase the details of each check we issue, so only checks we approve can proceed.

That by itself isn't a problem, but when we recently ordered a new batch of checks, somebody specified the wrong starting number for the new batch of checks. I'm not clear on the exact details, but that meant some of the new checks we received overlapped/interfered with older check numbers. As a result some of our checks issued between Nov 25 and Dec 22 were blocked by Positive Pay and didn't go through. Anything that was affected we've canceled and issued replacements.

Thank you, Conan, for the prompt reply (thumbsu

    Hi Conan,

I just received a call from my bank and I was told a Stop Payment was put on my most recent consignment check.  Along with a $15 stop payment fee.  I immediately called Este and she transferred me to someone who handles these kinds of matters.  Come to find out, I'm not the only one this is happening to.  However, it shouldn't happen anymore moving forward.  So a check has been re-issued along with an additional $15 to reimburse me for the stop payment fee (thank you very much).

Said consignment check was a nice little chunk of change and to have it stopped out of the blue is a bit disconcerting.  May I ask what is going on with your bank?

    Thank you.

  10. My family never shamed me for reading comics or receiving them as gifts.  In fact, they encouraged it. I wasn't the best of readers when I was a young tyke until my Dad introduced me to comic books.  It wasn't long before I was reading every comic I could find.  My parents did tire of me frequently asking what certain words meant (e.g. Excelsior!).  I was gifted with a dictionary not long after. :)

I wasn't sure where to put this, since it's actually a request to remove a book from a set -- or at least, a request to clarify and explain what I'm seeing.

In the Power Man #17 - #49 set, why does Power Man Annual #1 appear twice?

    image.thumb.png.b34df959e3746204b781b523b92b9edd.png

I tried (out of curiosity) and it's not possible to put the certification number that works in the first slot into the second slot.

It looks like something's not quite right in the database -- hoping it's easy to fix.  Thanks!

It's a Census issue.  In the Census, you have two Power Man Annual #1's, same contents, but different dates.  A little cleaning in the census appears to be in order (as well as the Registry).

This will be “corrected “ after grading is what support told me for my Todd signing. Well, that didn’t happen, so it’s on it’s way to me with the wrong label just to be sent right back for a M.E.

Sorry to hear.  Just recently, I sent in a slab to be reholdered because it was mislabeled.  I was told by customer service I couldn't send it back in as an M.E. because I didn't send in the book myself.  I purchased it from a dealer.  So as I'm sure you can guess, the 'reholder' still came back mislabeled even though I had written on the packing slip as well as the slab what was wrong.

So NOW I was allowed to send it back as an M.E. :censored:

I have been receiving a number of messages about error messages from the Control Panel link on the Collector Society page.

The only thing I know for sure is that we are moving to a new ERP system, and there is an ongoing effort to clean up the data in the Census.

Other than that, I'm not sure why these error messages appear.

If you are getting persistent error messages, please post below. Include your username, the URL you are redirected to, and the error message received.

I will forward them on to the Web Team.

    Thanks!

Simply repeating what I wrote in another thread:  As of this writing, full functionality of the Control Panel has been fully restored (at least for me).  I am no longer receiving any kind of error codes (thumbsu

Is there a set made for "Spider-Gwen: Edge of Spider-Verse #1 (2022 Marvel Comics)?" If not, can one be made. If one already exist, can you tell me where it might be found?

I can tell you for a fact that a Edge of Spider-Verse (2022) does not exist (I checked) and if you want this set created, this is not the thread to post such a request in.  You want to post your request in this thread ...
