yeah - there definitely are some collyness items in the auction. it's like they are using HA to launder/wash their adjusted art.

I finally have a representative Frank Cho piece. It's a more obscure character but it has his signature big butt!
Thanks for looking

Well, it was called "War" not "Puppies and Rainbows"
The problem with that response - is that - staring at a guy getting gored might be preferable to dwelling on an image of puppies and rainbows. now - rainbows and kittens on the other hand..

both are outstanding - but the first one is too gorey for me. man getting gored is not a sight I enjoy dwelling on.

There are a lot of really beautiful pieces framed on here. I am super envious. I have just gone a totally different direction. I go to Kinkos and make a color laser copy of the art for about 3.00 on cardstock, and then just frame it myself in a cheap frame. If it fades, that is fine I have the original and I just start over, although I have not experienced that to be honest. Not saying this is a better way, far from it, but it is a different path. The limitation is I don't have all the layered mats that I have seen and Honestly a lot of the pics in this thread look better. I just think that if I spent 300 or more on each could I have gotten another piece of art with that cash. Anyway just my . Really enjoyed seeing everyone's art, so Thanks!
everyone has their own way.
For me - the idea of making a copy and looking at that - defeats the purpose of owning a one of a kind item.
if you cant enjoy the real thing - and saving money is a factor -why not just collect prints and really save money? or buy an artist edition, cut it up and hang that art? one can pretend to own really awesome art on a budget in this way.

Been a fan of the Iron Man/ Subby cover since I wad a teen . Too bad I didnt pick the right profession to be able to afford it. The amazing Spiderman Dock Ock cover is pretty sweet too.
see everything so far with the link below.

not a quick flip - or possibly not a flip at all if this item was traded in - but either way - price is almost 2x in a short time.

What you're talking about are the results of the production process - that's not damage - that's what went in to creating the art. Damage from light; the environment in which the art resides; and a cheap framing job WILL damage the art and it's entirely preventable.
You probably won't even see how the art is being damaged until you take it out of the frame.
damage is damage. if I am ok with damages during production - than I am ok with some damage/ware.
fyi - I do take care of my art. just don't feel precious about it. mostly make sure everything is acid free. no glue or tape is used and display on walls not in direct sunlight.
with new/modern art - a lot of that stuff is scanned by the artist and doesn't get handled much. so I can see a modern collector being picky(er).

One should be worried. A lot of damage can be done to art by using cheap quality framing materials...
sounds like fear mongering.
again I collect art that has liquid paper on it, smudges, dents, pen marks, cuts, etc.. what will the frame do - that is any worse ?
this is not rheorical. feel free to share examples. maybe I have just been lucky so far.

not looking to disagree with anyone above. I know Kyle is concerned about condition - in the way comic collectors worry about it.
for my part - the most important part is that I trust the framer not to damage the art while framing or lose the art.
once it' in the frame - I am not too worried. the art will maintain its value. I know I bought art with tape, loose speech bubbles, tanned pages, etc..
The money spent on a fancy frame is better (in my opinion) spent on more or better art.

Heroes is #1 for me in terms of art. I have not been to SDCC so I cannot compare but I have been to Chicago, NYCC, Baltimore, Detroit, and it is my favorite (not to say the others are not good shows). The vibe at Heroes is so good and why I keep going back. Laid back and not chaotic like a lot of shows. Tons of artists and I have heard from several that they enjoy the atmosphere and don't feel as rushed, etc. Heroes is on the short list of best cons for comic art IMHO.
when you say good for art - are there a lot of art vendors? (new york and san diego both have a lot) or is it mostly artist alley - modern art you are talking about?

The 1990s were full of rampant speculation and variant cover comics. Not so different than these days - still this was in the early days of the internet and comic news came in the form of a magazine called Wizard. It was a price guide and hype machine. With lists of top ten artists, comics and more .. it drove sales and sparked trends.
Today I added a cover from issue 14 to my CAF gallery. The X-Women Cover. A big part of my teen comic collecting period - I loved the magazine and am always on the lookout for a cool cover from that mag to add to my collection.
The art is by Art Thibert who was primarily an inker but did draw an issue or two of the X-men as well as a short run image series called Black and White.

that is a great looking page. especially love the lush inking! congrats.
for my part - I have several galleries that are general - such as DC or Marvel that I put pieces into until there are enough of one kind to start their own gallery. so for example - I only have 2 daredevil pieces - so haven't made a DD gallery yet. If and when I get a 3rd one - I may start a new gallery dedicated to the man without fear.

What blows my mind is that it was THIS cover, it was meant to be. Any other cover from this era and caliber, I would have hit the BIN price without a thought. That it was THIS cover, after all these years...I only saw it cause i woke up at 3am just after he listed it. i was gonna send it off to get cleaned, but now looking at it, it really doesnt need it.
congrats on a really memorable cover! as a side note - 3am eh? That's the secret to scoring great art! Thanks for sharing.

Comipalooza was this weekend. While it wasn't the strongest "comic" con, I've ever attended, they did have some good comic guests including many of the artists in the Felix Comic Art group. I'll do a review later.
I ended up with two pieces from that group - Skottie Young and Daniel Warren Johnson
Skottie Young has done a lot of interesting work, e.g., adapting the OZ books to comics and a title called "I Hate Fairyland." I got in line for an autograph and to say hi. He allocates drawing slots (done while you wait so he works very quickly) if you roll doubles. I rolled and won the right to buy a drawing. I asked for a Sugar & Spike piece. I thought then (and do still) that Skottie would do a great S&S and was shocked to discover he didn't know who they were. The youth of today! His take skews a little older than our toddlers and may be a little more sinister. I do like it though.
Daniel Warren Johnson created a tale that I really enjoyed - Extremity. It tells the story of a young girl, Thea, and her family in a time of conflict. Thea is an artist who lost her drawing hand in the battles and the story is shaped by that act. Dan chose to show Thea in contemplation as opposed to a standard pose and I really like it.
Click the image to embiggen.with respect to Skottie not knowing Sugar and Spike - at least you can easily get the artist reference on their phone. I recall having to scrounge through back issue bins to find comics as reference for artists at cons when getting commssions of obscure or Indy characters they didn' know well enough to draw from memory.

trying to recall as it's been a while - is that little madman figure in the bottom margin part of an animated series that you could flip the pages to bring to life? If so - might be a good reason to want to own the complete book.

The OFFICIAL "This week in your ORIGINAL ART collection?"
in Original Comic Art
Posted
I have always been curious about the mechanics of doing a trade when two parties are in different cities.
well - I just completed my first trade recently and happy to report it all went well.
The other party was Will Gabri-El. He's super nice and easy to deal with for anyone who's ever wondered what it's like to work with him.
On a funny note - it felt a bit like a hostage negotiation - as we each sent out the package on the same day and emailed tracking info using the same shipper. To give you a visual- it reminded me of the Far Side cartoon by Gary Larson where, set in a forest - a hunter is exchanging a dear with another dear that is exchanging the man's human hunting partner.
Now to the art:
Today I posted a new addition to my Spidey gallery. It's a Marvel Team-Up cover.
