  1. Shouldn't CGC be made aware of this since he advertises himself as an authorized dealer? I know that some may say it's a bit naive suggesting CGC has business ethics, but haven't they refused to associate with certain comic book restorers in the past? Edit: I removed my statement saying there may been a theft and a crime commited by the business owner. If contacting the business directly doesn't lead to a satisfactory response, I would still contact the insurance company.
  2. The statute of limitations for property damage in most, if not all states is 3 years. If he said he still had your book in 2022 you still have plenty of time to file a claim with the insurance company for the lost/stolen book. Even if he files for bankruptcy, if he has an active insurance policy, shouldn't there be coverage? I'd at the very least spend 10 minutes giving Collectibles Insurance Services a call, giving the business name, and telling them you want to file a claim under their policy.
  3. You must've checked the wrong business. The website gives an update as recently as 5-17-23 Comic Book Pressing & Restoration Prices - Hero Restoration LLC (herorestorationcomics.com)
  4. You won't have to hire an attorney if your insurance company gets involved and pays out a claim. Their attorneys will handle everything. Even if you don't cash the check they may issue you, it'll give the insurer the right to pursue Hero Restoration (and you can use that as leverage to get what you actually want, which is your books back). Your insurer should also be able to assist you with carrier discovery, where they can find out who insures Hero Restoration and they can assist you with filing a claim with them as well. Edit: Surprisingly, they list their carrier here:
  5. These books went for far too low. It would've been better to sell them at BIN and possibly on a different auction site. I feel sorry for the seller(s), especially on that Voldemort book that should've been over 10k.
  6. It's tough to give an estimate and I'm still astonished at comiclink's laziness. Is it ever worth the risk in resubmitting a 9.8?
  7. This isn't slightly true, though. It's actually precisely the problem with this scenario. True, it's not like that guy that bought an expensive CGC high grade golden age book at auction that decided to resubmit it for a potential grade bump, only to have the Professionals at CGC determine they f'd up the first time, by overlooking a missing stamp or something along those lines, that lead it to getting a qualified grade. Does anyone know what book I'm talking about and if so can you post a link to the forum post? Edit: I found the youtube video about it: Do you think the seller is taking the $10k hit on this one or CGC? Comic Link :: The Online Vintage Comic Book and Comic Art Auction and Exchange
  8. That's why it's important to use a credit card or paypal as the Ebay payment method. I believe you can file a claim through paypal for up to 180 days and your credit card co. for up to a year. I didn't read through all 8 pages, but have you clarified which payment method you used and if you've filed a claim through them as well?
  9. Or possibly the worst, depending on what you are looking for. I was hoping for more focus on the two main characters, more zombies and more action instead of a daytime soap.
  10. You guys are in for a treat in Episode 3, if you're into bearded men making out with each other.
  11. Did you also not have that effing sticker on the back!?!? I had 12 slabs delivered recently that fortunately were all missing them.
  12. I'm still a noob but my take is that a restored book (color touch, no trimming) should get about 50% of FMV at most. Qualified where something is missing instead of being added to the book, should get at most a third of the non-qualified FMV. I will pay much more if it's qualified because of a signature and there's nothing wrong with the book other than that CGC didn't exist at the time.
  13. I used the Overstreet Price Guide around 2010 in order to determine what I should pay for a comic. It was listed at $1000 FMV so I thought $600 was a good deal at the time. Little did I know I was purchasing overpriced dreck and would've been better off purchasing a silver age key instead. That was the last time I ever used that useless piece of garbage.
  14. Despite being a fan of McFarlane's art I never liked how he draws Hulk or Wolverine. This issue is probably the ugliest popular cover I've ever seen. That and the overpriced Hulk #345 that I believe is still going for an outrageous amount. Until the movie comes out and flops. I think that there's still a good amount of Spawn collectors that grew up in the 80s and 90s that now have kids that may also be fans. Other than that I can't imagine anyone else is interested in the character.
  15. The OP provided a limited amount of information but if MCS did have to cancel the order, in the future should they give customers the option of store credit instead of refunding the money, to avoid issues with exchange rates? Shouldn't MCS consider improving this area of their business to avoid potentially bigger losses by customers on higher value purchases?
  16. That's understandable, given that's an excessive amount of emails. That's like texting a girl repeatedly with no response and not taking the hint that she's just not interested in you.
  17. Is anyone familiar with any commissoin maximum at comiclink, comicconnect, heritage, etc.? It seems like it would be an extremely poor decision to buy a high value book at MCS, which has a cap of $1000, and have it sent to an auction house that wouldn't match or come extremely close to this option.
  18. @Barth @DougC Maybe try turning auto-renew off and see if that'll make a difference.
  19. @ak47po thanks for sharing this. I've never submitted to CGC although I own a decent amount of their slabs and this is hard to resist.
  20. I kind of feel sorry for this guy. He's still young and has already burned so many bridges with his idiotic videos.
  21. Pretty much the same here. Although I don't have any photos to share at the moment, this post has given me the idea to have a short box dedicated to books I picked up as a kid. It's still cool that I've held onto these for almost 30 years.
  22. That's awesome! I would take Dr. X up on his offer if First Impressions doesn't respond and drive over there together to pick up your books. Worst case scenario you can pick up some new patches and make a new friend.
