Has anyone submitted a graded comic to a signing and came back with a lower grade. I'm contemplating sending my copy of x-men 266 for the Claremont and Rubinstein signing. It's a 9.8 so I'm being a little cautious because what if it comes back a 9.6 or lower.

Yes it does. Two occasions I subbed a 9.8 blue slab and came back a 9.6 and a 9.4. Doesn't happen often but they sting when you remember them. Subbing an already high grade book is always a risk, that's just the reality.

I have Cyberforce 1-4 (mini series) signed by Marc. Uncanny X-men 275 and 276 signed by Chris, and Uncanny X-men 242 signed by both. I got the signatures at San Diego comic con back in the 90’s, when it was still easy to get into, and well before I heard of cgc.

Would you send them to CBCS for verification or no?

I still have my con badge and pictures of Marc and Chris to prove I was there. I wish that was enough for CGC to give a SS case.

For me, it's CGC SS or nothing, I'd keep them raw.

For me, I'd just hunt down high grades and hope to get a CGC SS opportunity with Mr. Silvestri. (you can jump in on a Claremont signing is coming up)

I think I will. Also I noticed a lot more scratches on the holder. I'll post here as to what they say. I still wonder just what causes those whitish marks.

As long as you take clear and detailed pictures of obvious inside blemishes, they should help you out.

Also, I see those "inner specs" to be more common on foil covers; for the most part I wanted to live with it but it still hella annoys me.

    Hello :)

Below is an example of a book slabbed by CGC (it's not mine) that was printed in the Philippines, and which reprints material from X-Men #101:

    xm.jpg.1ed3b297c37d6ebdafd311d5972a4e88.jpg

The book was published and reprinted by National Book Store, Inc in the Philippines, some time after the US original of X-Men #101 was printed, and yet it is labelled as a Marvel Comic with the date that the associated US copy was produced, not the reprinted book itself. This does not seem right to me, to label a book as something that it evidentially is not.

May I ask how CGC would label the following book, also printed in the Philippines, which reprints original material from Amazing Spider-Man #111:

    110philippine.thumb.jpg.52326c5c7da96c0c03bae6baeb444e79.jpg 110philippineb.thumb.jpg.68f00a77ae99d1493c1d82cbe5781dfa.jpg

    110philippined.thumb.jpg.73bd313cf3be8001b26bd525fec1ca38.jpg

    Some observations about the book:

    • It has a cover number of C08-75. Nowhere is the US original issue number (#111) shown
    • It has different content to the US original - inside covers, ads back cover etc
    • It's indicia states "Reprinted in the Philippines by JMC Press" and "Exclusively Distributed by Goodwill Trading Inc"
    • It is undated

If we follow the labelling approach to the Philippines reprint of X-Men #101, the CGC label should say:

    Amazing Spider-Man #111

    Marvel Comics, 08/72

    "Goodwill Trading Variant"

    Is that correct?

Try putting a note on your submission form like "Reprinted in the Philippines by JMC Press" when you send it in. CGC might discuss to consider putting the text in the label. Good luck.

Didn't know National Bookstore printed them, interesting what the paper/print quality is on these books.

I'm not here to criticize CGC about its turn-around times. I'm just curious what has led to such a drastic increase in the turn around times.

If I remember correctly, the turn around times in May were: Value - 60 days and Economy - 45 days. Don't quote me on this, because my memory isn't what it used to be.

Now we're in November, and Value has increased to 75 days and Economy has increased to 73 days. Due to the lack of cons from late spring until now, one would think that the turn around times would be decreasing, instead of increasing. Even if there was an increase in submissions mailed to CGC, I can't believe that this number would be larger than all the books that are submitted to CGC at cons. I remember the first time I went to C2E2; I thought that I would be able to walk over and drop my books off immediately. Boy, was I wrong. It was like a mad house at the CGC booth! Kudos to CGC for being to handle that massive influx of books that were submitted then.

A possible explanation could be COVID-19. If employees have contracted it or exposed to it, that meant at least a 14-day quarantine. If several employees got sick and/or were exposed, I'm sure that would lead to an increase in the amount of time for a book to be marked as received, as well as to be graded.

Does anyone else have a theory regarding with TATs have increased?

Increase in submission, very likely because everyone is bored at home, plus all these in-house signings, and finally in my opinion, an increase in CGC popularity. Lot's of new members here and on social media groups signing up.

Usually if there's an uptick in business you expect staff to grow, but we are not privy to that information.
