  1. It is mainly worth it for sellers who have big books and do not want to deal with returns. Instead of going back and forth over a client wanting a 500$ book and debating the grade you give it, by having it be slabbed by CGC the grade (and thus worth, which is what this is all about) is no longer a point of debate as much and better yet if you sell on e-bay the person can't come back saying it's not the right grade or what they thought it was and your description wasn't accurate an on and on. But for a private collection, there is no point to it unless you prefer holding a slab of plastic to the actual comic (some fans do think CGC slabs look great and want their treasures in them simply for aesthetic purposes, nothing wrong with that). And even if you sell them, CGC isn't all that important. Consignment places like Mycomicshop and Heritage Auction grade the books themselves and since those sites are trusted, you don't need to spend the money to get them slabbed in that scenario either. Also, speaking of those two sites, I have noticed that in most cases the prices obtained for a book of the same grade that is slabbed versus one that is not slabbed shows that spending the money for CGC is not worth it. Spending $30 on a book worth $100 so that you can get $100 for it rather than selling it raw for $85 means you are at a loss. Also, for key books, a raw book is often wanted even more since people think there is a chance at it being worth more if they press it while a slabbed book feels more set in stone. Look at the example below, all books at the same grade and it's the raw books that were worth more.
  2. Nope, they just don't grade them. So all you know is that they are not 9.6 books. By definition, a grade from CGC can only be given to a book they slab.
  3. A miswrap/spine roll won't make you lose too many points. There have been miswrapped books with 9.6 grades back from CGC. In the case of your book, the main problem is that big colourbreaking crease in the back, which makes this book nearly worthless.
  4. It might still come back 0.5 because the book being graded is still missing that page (that was what I saw answered in a similar post here). It just has an extra page from another book. To make sure this is seen as part of the book you'd have to marry it and then it could come back 2.5-3.0 but with a green label.
  5. This is the perfect candidate since that book's worth could potentially triple if the creases are resolved. Not saying they will be for sure, but it's a better bet than any other bet I'd think of. Now you have to figure out who to send it to for pressing. You may want to read some recent reviews of various places like these: https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/topic/432067-starting-to-question-ccss-pressing-skills/page/5/
  6. At this point, it would be much easier to simply take a scan of the entire comic (or lots of pictures including one of the entire comic) and post it here so that everyone can get a good sense of the book in general and give their proper opinion. https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/forum/42-hey-buddy-can-you-spare-a-grade/
  7. I know this is an old post, but what did Dringenberg do? But don't SS books sell for more than universal labels (everything else being equal)? So why would it be unfair for an artist to charge more? It's cool and better if they don't but I don't understand why it's unfair if they do.
  8. They screwed up. The character logos are only available on yellow and blue labels (at first anyway) and the labelling is handled by a different department than grading. Sosince the person chose the spidey label, that's what they were given, along with the notion that this is a restored comic. CGC had not through this through and I am fearful this glitch in their process may have been abused of by people wanting to circumvent the purple label. They have since asked that these be sent back to be given a purple label (I believe at no extra cost). Don't know how many chose to do that.,
  9. For those same comics that had few high grade copies on the census, were there a whole ton of copies graded in lower grades? I ask because if it's all proportional then it could simply be that these arent really worthwhile to grade even in high grade. For instance, I own quite a few silver age dectective comics that I would consider high grade. But they are of random issues with no classic cover, nor villain, and when I see that a 9.2 or 9.4 is worth less than 150, I don't consider getting it graded. Just not worth it, especially when I can make more money selling it raw.
  10. This could never get a 6.0 even with a clean and press because the spine, especially around the staples, is too damaged. The biggest defects are not removeable through press so that might not be worthwhile if your main goal is to get a better grade. I wouldn't expect more than a 4.0.
  11. Sell them to a dealer or local comic shop if you feel overwhelmed. If you sell them yourself, you may end up with 4000 books leftover after the more sellable books are gone. You could make a post in this thread with several images to give an idea of what you have and say where you are located like that a dealer on these boards could get in touch with you and buy them off you locally. https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/forum/46-mixed-age-threads-and-misc/
  12. I'd take the cheaper one. The wedge is a non issue.
  13. It's all supply and demand. If it's a rare and coveted book (like Showcase 4), then the colour touch wont make the book go down in value as drastically since people will still want it quite a bit. But say it's a Shazam 1 (from the 70s), a book that we just have a ton of, then a 9.4 with colour touch would be worth far far less because getting a 9.4 without colour touch is not hard to get at all. In that case, it could really become a purple label of death. I would definitely avoid a book like that like the plague. Same for any Silver Age DC book people don't care about. Anyone wanting to send in a colour touched Hawkman 10 from the 60s would be losing money. So it all depends on how rare the book is and how badly people want one.
  14. care to share? Also, Detective 585 is a 20$ book now, really wish I could still get one for 5$.
  15. Yes, it's really a 9.6. A 9.6 only means that there can be practically no wear and tear from use and handling BUT any defect done through the book's production is allowed. And taht can mean a whole bunch of defects, like the ones on your book. A 9.6 was never going to be perfect, hence why it ain't a 10. It's similar with 9.8s which can also have chips and tears and such if they are factory defects. If you want a book with 0 defects, buy a 10.
  16. Kirby's Bronze age DC books were really unpopular 10 years ago. I bid on a lot which included a few of them and won them for a 10th of the guide value. There was Komandi 2,3 and several forever people, all in great shape. Nothing popular, but the deal was so good, I remember the seller writing " you got a nice deal here" or something of the sort on the printed receipt sent with the books.
  17. A press would definitely make the book nicer since it would get rid of a lot of wrinkles. Definitely worth it for a DD 1.
  18. If he signed it as Jorge Perez, you may have other problems.
  19. All I feel like saying is that Adventure 332 looks pretty damn sweet!
  20. It is not worth it, you will make more money selling it raw (meaning, selling it as is).
  21. Yeah, cheap binding. Paperbacks, just as the pulps of the past, are made cheaply. happens to some of mine as well.
  22. No time like the present. Modern age books are in great abundance so if you suspect any kind of interest now and you want to sell them, you should do it now. Because then you run the risk of interest fading (I for one do not see Artgerm getting sustained appeal, but that's just me) and books losing their current worth.
  23. Super happy to get all these keys in one fell swoop.
