  1. 6.5±0.5. My eyes see 6.0/6.5, but I've seen this one go a grade higher than what the defects might suggest.
  2. I am not an expert on the subject, but anything beyond dry surface cleaning is almost guaranteed to result in a Restored or Conserved label. Conservation by chemical cleaning is typically reserved for Golden Age, high value books, which wouldn't be as big a deal since aesthetically pleasing copies can be rare. A Restored label on a modern book will typically sell for ~50% of a Universal label at the same grade (I have not seen a modern book with a Conserved label). If there was no water damage, the color breaking defects present on this book that won't be fixed by pressing, would max the grade out around 7.0. A Hulk 340 newsstand Universal label has a FMV at this grade of <$150. Grading alone costs $25. Add shipping and whatever the c/p fees are. Right now, there is a newsstand 7.0 on ebay available for $145, and an 8.5 for $200.
  3. The image does not appear to show the spine. Piece that size out puts the starting point around 3
  4. Max 4.0. Personally, I avoid sending anything that could be deemed stained/water stained. They're quite unforgiving with these things
  5. +1 Leaning more to 4.0 for defects, 4.5 for a GA bump
  6. If I'm really digging for a complaint, it looks like the inner pages might be starting to tan around the edges. Hard to be that harsh with it though. >9.2
  7. I can't tell if the crease through the title box extend to the outer edge. I can see this getting dinged down to a 5.0 as I've seen otherwise really nice looking books grade lower than eye appeal just b/c of creasing. 5.5 if the crease does stop at the red/yellow crossover
  8. 5.0/5.5 just the tanning to be the tipping point defect
  9. I didn't have a firm prediction on this b/c these are low production quality and my guesstimate is that there are fewer than 200 Comic Readers of all issues that have been graded. The "rarer" something is to CGC, the easier they grade it, it seems. Just based on the Black Lightning Comic Reader 138 I had graded, I expected over an 8.0 b/c that's what it came back as. I believe you're eyes are correctly picking up on something that looks like a crease, but is in fact part of the printing. I had a lot of questions about the back cover looking at as many copies as I could to find one worthy of sign & grade. I saw enough that had that pattern near the spine to conclude it's "supposed" to be like that.
  10. Still waiting for the double-signed magazine-size fanzine I sent
  11. Wild. I swear they give a soft touch to rarer books. Nice result
  12. At least from what I can see in the UPC corner is it pressed up really well. CCS or someone independent before it was sent in?
  13. Nice. I guess I should get mine graded as I'd say the gripper holes are similar or less severe that yours. Make sure to edit the original post to say "Grade Is In" instead of PGM so people know to check in
  14. 4.5/5.0 is where I'm at too. If any of that grime on the back could be removed, I'd give it a really good shot at a 5.0. Is it worth it? my completely amateur opinion is the risk outweighs the potential reward with older books
  15. I might be the only person on the planet that thinks this is super cool, but here it is. Only 2 on the census, the other is a 9.0 SS. Of course, I have no idea which, or both of the cover artists signed that one. The next step is to get JS to sign the Ghost Rider 35 that this fanzine previews.
  16. @grendelbo @Mars76 @1950's war comics tagged youse guys since you graded the other copy of this. This one was a lot nicer. Mainly some corner wear
  17. Unfortunately the photos have several issues that make assigning an accurate grade impossible. The back cover photo has a corner cropped off, the shadows make small details hard to see and the resolution isn't as high as I like so enlargements can be scrutinized. If the camera can't take higher res photos, a good option is a few closeups of corners/edges for future posts. That said, with what's shown I don't see any glaring issues. Could be an 8.0, could be a 9.2 or higher. I'll guess 9.2/9.4 with a high degree of uncertainty.
  18. 7.0/7.5 needs some cleaning and hope that none of the grunge is staining.
