  1. I agree with this. Bad news as far as pushing CGC to be better. A possible silver lining is that every time I saw Steve interviewed he was adamant that their ugly label was perfect and didn’t need changing. I doubt he is the one making the final decision on that and maybe he was just parroting the company line, but just maybe he was the loudest voice against them making a change like that and now they can make it. A more attractive label would be big for them and possibly boosting their appeal thus their market share
  2. The annoying thing about this is that if I end up going to megacon, I’m going to see him doing a sketches and if I wanted I could probably get one done there faster than the one I sent in almost a year ago
  3. Yup I did this and he responded. If anyone cares and is considering this your best bet is to go white.
  4. Seems obvious that a blank variant that is predominately white would be the best choice if going with this option. However I have a really nice light green blank that would be great to use for this. I guess I wondering if anyone is aware of what Sinclair would be using to add color to Lee’s sketches and if it is some sort of acrylic based paint markers would that work with a non-white book. not even sure I’m doing this, as $1000 is quite a bit of cash
  5. xallstars This guy has a feedback score of 1800 & 100%. Has numerous items for sale and pulls this mess. Auction ended 45 min ago. He wins. 5 min later sends cancellation request, (bid by accident). I'm furious, he bid 36 hours ago, could have easily withdrawn bid or messaged me. And considering he that he is a prolific seller its absolutely infuriating. Now I gotta go send a second chance offer to a guy that will no doubt think I had another person shilling for me. I'm done with ebay auctions
  6. Can someone explain the $195 Sinclair thing? Is that us sending in a previous sketch and he will color it? It isn’t clear to me
  7. Can this be clarified. I’m not sure what this is. Can I send in a previously sketched Jim Lee cover from last year and have Sinclair color it?
  8. Heard about this and honestly I’m over it and I’m getting close to the point where I’d just like to be refunded and they can keep the blanks. I submitted two, one for me and one that I wanted to give as a gift. I was hoping for Christmas, but I knew that was dicey. When Christmas came and went I was then hoping to give it to this person on their birthday in April. Obviously that didn’t happen. The entire thing is unfortunate. They should have capped submissions if this was at all a possibility
  9. Absolutely no doubt Marvel produces more than is needed to fulfill the orders to those that met incentive. We’ve seen this with the Walmart packs with 1:500s showing up in them. it’s just pretty gross for those of us in the hobby that like chasing ghost books like this one just to get torpedoed by someone who found a stack of these things at diamond
  10. The book in question is “Killmonger #2” the 1:25 Jeff Dekal incentive variant. Released in January of 2019. I Admit, I love this book. I love the Character, I love Dekal, and I love its rarity and I've loved trying to hunt for this book the last year or so. So maybe I'm just bitter. Anyway These come and go on eBay and graded copies usually get snatched up in a matter of minutes. However recently a couple of 9.8s showed up on eBay and that surprised me. They never show up and Last I checked there were only 8 9.8s in existence and One of them is mine. So I checked the census and discovered the count had exploded. Dug in a bit deeper on CGC Data According to CGCdata.com From release until the 3/15/22 census update this book had 14 books on census. 8 - 9.8s, 4 - 9.6s and 2 9.4s Then at the 3/27 update 22 books were added to the count, with a whopping 17 coming in at 9.8 and 5 at 9.6 Why I think this is bizarre. This was an extraordinarily under ordered book. Comic chron, which I know isn’t 100% accurate, estimates a total print run of ~17,000. As everyone knows it isn’t as simple as dividing 17,000 by 25. Shops had to order 25 copies of the regular cover to get a copy of the dekal. By all estimates there were between 2000-2500 direct market comic shops in the North America in 2019. That’s roughly an average of 7 copies ordered per store. So how many shops actually ordered and qualified for this book?Speaking to the owner of my local shop which also happens to be one of the largest shops in Southern California, his guess was that less than 100 of these “should” exist. And seeing as how these 22 books were all graded and added to the census over a single weekly update suggests that all belong to a single individual. More than anything else the thing I find shocking is that of the 22, 17 came back at 9.8. For those not familiar with this book, it has a completely solid black back cover. This book is notorious for all kinds of nasty color rubbing. added pics of this back cover of this book from the two copies currently for sale on eBay for those who aren’t aware of it or it’s back over issues. These are actually way better than most of the copies I have come across. I guess the reason I’m posting this is because is it possible this is an error seeing as how it is so recent? It’s just hard to believe someone was somehow sitting on 22 of these and 17 came back at 9.8 with its really tough back cover. There is probably next to zero chance this is an error and I need to get over this. Its actually embarrassing how seeing this census jump upset me. Just kinda took the out of this book to some degree Any thoughts?
  11. A long and not at all interesting story about Jim Lee. I’m only inspired to share this after reading about Byrne flipping out about using any other color than black. I went to TorpedoCon last summer and paid for a sketch and 5-6 books to be signed. Due to Covid my work was slow and I was still working from home at that point. This left me with way too much time to prepare for this signing. Window bagged to perfection and also bought about a dozen different color Paint Markers. It didn’t occur to me that asking him to sign using my pens, switching out each one for each individual book might be annoying until I was in line and more so when I didn’t see anyone in front of me provide their own pens or seemingly ask him for specific colors. When I got to the front of the line I almost chickened out but I had spent probably $60 on these markers and Jim Lee was my childhood God and I knew I was keeping these forever. He did the sketch first, and while it’s my nature is to be rather introverted it felt odd to just stand their for the 3-4 min it took for him to draw it so I mentioned to him that this was the first con I had been to since I was ten years old when he and the other X-men creators toured the country in 92 promoting the new title. (Funny thing back then he did a sketch on a T-Shirt for me and it cost $20, the cost he did for me at Torpedo cost $800 or $900 lol) He lit up immediately and started talking about how they had to organize that tour on their own and how difficult it was because they were all so young. He was so cool I felt like he wouldn’t decline using my markers So very sheepishly I asked if he’d mind using them. Of course he had no issue at all and as I handed him one marker after the other he asked curiously how I decided which colors to use on each specific book and gave his opinion on which color marker he would have used. Incredibly nice man. TLDR: Jim Lee is cool Open to signing in any color marker
  12. CGC has no incentive to give grader notes. In fact, if they gave grader notes on every book it would trigger an onslaught of complaints to their customer service with people disputing the defects listed in the notes. Being Vague is key. Plus Their Competition gives notes on every single non 9.8 book and they cannot grab any meaningful market share to save their lives.
  13. If I'm not being clear, I'm curious to see how certain book submissions have increased over time. Is this possible?
  14. Yeah I guess that’s what I’m asking about. Do they handle books carefully and communicate well. I’ve only done one other signing through a facilitator, Scott’s Collectables. Overall I was happy books were handled carefully but communication was off a bit imo
  15. Came in today, far too much money but loved her in GOT and Solo. Anyway love the cover on this really hard to find book and as of today it’s the only SS 9.8
