  1. I think the HA sale sets a new level for low grade Terrific 5s. So while T5 is worth more it might just be that we haven't had a recent AN8 sale. The most recent 4.0 sale in GPA was a buy it now on ebay so the true value could be a bit higher. I only own the AN8 but I would give the edge to T5. When I was contemplating buying the AN8 I showed side-by-side shots of AN8 vs T5 to three friends who don't know anything about comics and did not tell them which one I was considering. They all preferred the AN8.
  2. I am also a bit lower on this one. More around the 3.0 as the spine looks pretty tattered.
  3. I think multiple buy it nows are relevant but could still be wrong / unhelpful as these books aren't perfect fungibles so the presence of BINs isn't always relevant (though it usually is). I wasn't thinking of the type of situations you raise but I agree that that would be horrible. I do think in the more prosaic cases it is still a bad idea for the reasons I and others have raised.
  4. The norm is pragmatic; it allows you to have a sales thread that is succinct and prevents unnecessary quibbling over price between the seller and whoever it is who felt it necessary to object to their pricing (which is likely not someone who is actually interested in buying the book). I'm just brain storming, so I could be wrong but several other reasons come to mind as to why pointing mis-pricing in threads is a bad idea: - If the book isn't common or isn't common in grade previous sales are often a poor guide to current value; - On common books this is less of an issue but pricing is inexact so there is still a non-negligible chance that you are wrong; - Morally there is no obligation for third parties to police others' transactions. I think that the obligation is on the parties to the contract to make sure they have done their due diligence and are properly informed. If there is some moral obligation then it seems that their should also be an obligation to point out books that are underpriced. This seems like it would then become unworkable and result in a lot of argument in threads.
  5. Sure. I was really responding to your original statement 'For the most part, I think this board is pretty good for deals. And it should be--sellers don't have to pay any eBay fees. As a general rule, it seems to me at a minimum things posted here should be 10% less than the going eBay rate.' Ebay does not charge 10%. Edit: Also in the statement I originally quoted you still recommend a 10% discount so in that case I disagree.
  6. If you discount the book so that you make no extra selling on the boards what incentive does a seller have to sell in this venue?
  7. What an awesome place to start. Maguire is at the very top of the pile for this kind of art.
  8. Robert Maquire or Robert Maguire? Either way those are both really nice.
  9. That figure is the least I think you could get something decent for. But I don't think there is any need to spend 4 or 5 figures for good images from the 50s and 60s. After a few minutes of looking these are all relatively recent sales from Heritage (where some of the highest prices are realised). I also follow lots of other smaller auction houses where prices are lower.
  10. I'm planning to have a sale including some high grade bronze, PCH, GGA, and war books. I hope to start listing books tomorrow.
  11. I think it is difficult. I haven't been able to turn up any pulp covers and have only seen the covers everyone else would have seen come to auction. However, finding paperback covers has been possible. They aren't advertised but if you shake enough trees they are out there. I'm also focused on 70s-90s sci fi so I think this material is a little easier to find than older sci fi, gga, crime, or romance. Though romance covers seem to be very cheap when they are available.
  12. I was wondering how many people on the boards also collect pulp and paperback art? It seems like we should have a thread devoted to this material.
  13. Oh man I want one! Fits in with my comic collecting themes well.
  14. That book is not coming back as a 0.5 the only exception would be if a page is missing.
  15. Won't this already get a purple anyway? There looks to be some CT in the title, the lettering is all wrong.
  16. Have had these for a while but had them graded. I've been on a spending spree with original art lately so they'll be in the next CC auction. The Tracy is the single highest graded bondage torture cover.
  17. I don't think you need to justify this at all, even if you had no reason you are entitled to sell the piece and ask whatever price you like. Most don't look down on dealers when they buy low and sell high. So it is anathema to me that the collecting community gets worked up about people who love the hobby and sometimes sell the things they have. Not everyone has the bankroll to be a black hole collector. My exception to this would be those who induce someone else to sell by saying the piece is a grail etc and then flip it immediately.
