  1. There were several factors. One, the scarcity. For me, the challenge of collecting is every bit as enjoyable as the acquisition Second, the history/content...once I discovered the pioneers that worked on centaurs (everitt, mills, biro, gustavson, wolverton, Ryan etc etc) you can't help but "marvel" at what they accomplished Thanks Rick. I didn't mean to imply that they were not worth collecting I just know nothing about them so wanted to be informed. That certainly is a who's who of comic book royalty.
  2. Hi Rick Just wondering what the fascination with Centaurs is all about? What first attracted you to collecting them? Thanks Jake
  3. So cool! A pity that Harrison would not deign to sign a comic. Will he sign other things?
  4. Assuming I read the CGC label correctly: He just posted the book again in a new holder. It's now a PGX 8.0 EP. Do PGX even try at all anymore?
  5. I do have a Hangman #3, but it's only mid-grade so I didn't scan it. Great book, here's the famous opening splash page... Wow that is graphic for something intended for kids. Makes me wonder what age group their target audience was? I am much too young to have bought off the stands but I know that when I was a kid if I had had comics like this my mother would have confiscated them immediately. Even a mid grade copy is great. A truly awesome collection you have sir.
  6. Very nice. do you have a no# 3? That has to be a MLJ grail of mine.
  7. yes that's the wow factor I'm talkin about. An yes please drop in, I'm there 7 days a week. Where is your shop / do you have a website or facebook page? I'll definitely stop by next time I'm on your side of the state the link in my sigline takes you to my FB page. How cultured of you Junk. It reminds me of an average man's version of this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Physical_Impossibility_of_Death_in_the_Mind_of_Someone_Living I saw it in person and it was pretty impressive (I understand it's not for everyone) Off topic post: What fascinates me is sheer spectacle and huge amounts of money involved. I believe it was sold in the tens of millions even though the original shark had decayed to a point where it was no longer presentable and so had to be replaced. But I do appreciate it, it is brilliant art both commercially and conceptually. I think the meta irony is best captured by this work by banksy which has fetched 5 figures at auction: I am going to just mention the tenuous link between this type of contemporary art and the work of Milton Caniff and then later Roy Lichtenstein so this post has something to do with comics...

  9. I've definitely got a fever and the only cure is more Golden Age obscurities!!! these books don't usually hit my collection until they've almost disintegrated back into the earth from which they came but I still love em nonetheless..the good news for sellers is they know there are people out there willing to pay top dollar for their treasures...the bad news is even at near dust it looks like I'm going to have some competetion picking these up when they do hit the market!! it's looking like a sellers market more and more everyday...I'm hoping to lock a few of these up while I have the chance and just enjoy em for a long time to come, or until they blow away in the wind, whichever comes first haha!! It is a real sickness. And there is so much more variety and so few extant copies compared to later stages of publishing I don't think the sickness can ever be satiated. Would you guys say we are currently experiencing a strong increase in collecting in this field?
  10. Not sure if responding to me. But I agree with what you have written above I think it is likely that no deal was reached. But that is a separate issue to where the agreement originated (a WTB vs a sales thread) and my disagreement with you was on the importance of origin. Anyway, my point of contention isn't important if we both agree no deal was reached. I just like arguing, even if others do not.
  11. I do not think that is relevant. Whether the deal was instigated by sales thread or by a WTB does not change whether an agreement was reached. My only reasoning for the difference in a sales thread vs a WTB thread is the "damage" to a seller. If a seller had a sales thread with rules spelled out and clear shipping policies, the onus is on the buyer to ask questions BEFORE throwing out an because the seller would obviously mark his sales thread that the book was sold and could miss out on a sale of the book to another with the time wasted. Because the book wasn't actively for sale in a thread, what damages does a seller have when a would be buyer says "nah, I'll pass" when given actual shipping costs that weren't clear from the start? That's my reasoning for a WTB thread vs. a sales thread. Wouldn't a automatically turn a WTB thread into a "sales" thread... since a "sale" was made ? xxx ooo Rupp That is essentially my point. The reason I do not think it is relevant is because if a deal is reached then the problem is that an agreement is being breached regardless of whether the seller is inconvenienced or not. But I do see your point Harvey, there is something qualitatively worse about doing it in a sales thread. But overall I think in both situations the buyer is in the wrong and is in breach of an agreement.
  12. I'd have to see the PMs. What if the seller admitted he doesn't have much experience in shipping books to the UK but was concerned it COULD be $50 - $60, but he'd cover the first $20 and the would-be buyer has experience that shipping is $25 so he figured he'd be on the hook for $5. I need to see what was specifically as far as shipping, but it's clear the buyer was not really expecting a $50 - $60. (one tiny piece: shipping was $63 - higher than seller's own estimate). Maybe the discussion regarding insurance and with the additional $3, the buyer felt that the seller was nickel and dimming him and didn't want to deal with it anymore. Bottom line: there is no clear "your total WILL be $450 + $55 shipping" and an At the very first point the buyer was given the total cost, he passed. I don't see it as a done deal. Again, just my opinion for whatever that is worth. Everyone can feel free to add Xela to their list and he probably won't get many response to his WTB threads, but I don't see it as worthy of aaddition to the PL. I think this is a much more persuasive argument. I am inclined to think that no deal has been reached.
  13. I do not think that is relevant. Whether the deal was instigated by sales thread or by a WTB does not change whether an agreement was reached.
  14. Tremendous book! I wonder, though, if you are already a skeleton why you need a gas mask? Better safe than sorry?
  15. Glad to know insurance was included! Nice book, what's the grade? Looks to be a 7 or 8.0... .....it has some staining at the bottom of the back cover that brought it down hard.....to a 7.0. It looks like an 8.0 otherwise with full gloss, blazing colors, and white cover stock. I think it might be the nicest 7.0 I've ever had. GOD BLESS.... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u Sweet book Jimbo!
  16. Not the 8 yet - haven't found the right copy. The 6 is indeed a classic. Nice book - the anguish on the foreground figure is palatable. Cheers now I just need one of these to have a nice set:
  17. Those Airfighter books are sweet, 2, 6 and 8 are my personal favorites. Do you have copies of those too? And of course no# 14 has a great Valkyrie cover My newest Japanese war cover:
  18. Nice greens on the Horrific, it is such a shame when they turn that horrible olive color.
  19. Nice books Geek. Ware really does have amazing compositions, they remind me of an instruction manual. What is the black and white Hellboy book?
