  1. I know the notoriously tough Planet issues but are there any fight/rangers/wings comics that are very hard to find?
  2. We're talking books like HFH 1, ToD 1, MP 1, etc, right? Those books are too late (actually the HFH 1 could conceivably have one). The NDS inserts only ran from about April 1971 and stopped completely in early 1973. So you'd be looking for an ASM 100 or an IM 55 for example. I think you may be mixed up: Marvel Premiere 1 - April, 1972 Tomb of Dracula 1 - April, 1972 Hero for Hire 1 - June, 1972 Others would include Marvel Spotlight 2 (February, 1972), Marvel Spotlight 5 (August, 1972), Marvel Feature 1 (December, 1971), Defenders 1 (August, 1972), ASM 101 (October, 1971), FF 112 (July, 1971), Amazing Adventures 11 (March, 1972), and others. You're right the HFH 1 I caught, I don't know why but I mis-read the tomb of Dracula as "10" and not a 1 and then glossed right over the "MP 1". Must have been some kind of weird comic book tourette's like response. I know there's a boardie with a raw marvel spotlight 5 (I think Porcupine) with one, and I have never seen one in a MP 1. With the recent increased interest in that book I wouldn't mind having one in a 9.0+ if I could find one out there. -J. I sold this Marvel Spotlight #5 a few years back (to a board member I believe) that had the National Diamond Sales insert: j That is a pretty 6.0.
  3. Wow the thing that amazes me is this book is now going for 1700?!?!?!?!?!?!?
  4. Very nice mail call this morning, a reader copy of VoH 35 (now I just need a file copy) and some fine Australian whiskey. I included the single malt, not because I think anyone will care but because it has taken me months to get a bottle and I am
  5. i was a distant underbidder. congrats!! +1 before I could even bid it was well over the level I was comfortable with. Congrats on an awesome pickup!
  6. Doubt that I'd qualify as an expert of any sort, but I don't see how the Gaines file copies would affect the value of any other EC out there. They are simply relatively unique examples, in a class of their own. I am pretty sure if there were no gaines files copies then NM examples would sell for a lot more than they currently do as supply of such examples would be dramatically decreased.
  7. You don't see too many of those anymore. I know it's about the book - which is very sold and vibrant - but the old label is a plus to me, especially since the Oakland collection was brought to the market a year or two before CGC opened. Indeed, if you have a CGC 9.8 without benefit of a press it is usually breathtaking in hand. Many of the Oaklands graded 9.8 the old fashion way. It is not a warehouse find. That's a stupid premise. It was OO all the way. Supposedly he would place the book on a towel and read them once, gently. The knock against the Oakland pedigree is the volume of books, not too many keys. Trust me, they are really nice books. Some of my favorites. I only have a few copies but they are all stunning.
  8. I don't get the drama around someone deleting a PM. The software makes it sound like a personal affront by saying "removed themselves from this topic." I remember when I decided to start cleaning upt my PM inbox and got back some PMs from people asking if I was mad with them because I had "removed myself". They are just words from a probably socially inept programmer. ..... same thing here.....it could be worded better. I thought I had been put on ignore or something. GOD BLESS.... -jimbo(a friend of jesus) (thumbs u They should have used something like "PovertyRow has, in the interest of data storage conservation, reluctantly deleted this PM but wishes to express his deep appreciation for the attention you have shown him."
  9. B-E-A-utiful!! A book that doesn't come up for auction as often as some of the other WFs.
  10. Oh gawd what a great copy. If I had that and your Horrific 3
  11. Yeah price is crazy. You'd think it was a double cover SS for that price....
  12. Wow, I wonder how much my "greggy copies" (CGC and raw) are worth? I've really got to do some collection cleaning/dupe culling this Summer, as some of these prices are insane. I can remember giving my kids piles of She-Hulk, Ms. Marvel, Nova, etc. issues (that drifted in with eBay lots) to read/rip-up and they'd probably put them through University now. Still got quite a few still though. Probably more than a few. Please do. I think many on the boards would love to get a shot at some of your under copies.
  13. I ignore grades posted by the seller and always make my own assessment. So I am indifferent to whether they post a grade or not.
  14. cheap...I sold a 4.0 for 15995 this weekend... Must have been a real pretty 4.0. it was indeed...actually had a 4.5 priced at same (again, last year sticker) that I quickly moved up to 4K a point...whew Whats the fmv for 7.0, 7.5, 8.0? 4K a point=36K,38.5K,40K Im positive thats not the fmv for those 3 grades I don't know really..... Oak, if you want to sell me those books at those prices
  15. Got to see this one in person. It's as nice as it gets. Oh man that is purdy!
  16. Aside from your general reasoning "private" means "private", otherwise its public. And no, I would not say at all in public things I am bound to elaborate with some specific person: thats the very sense of "private". I agree Claudio that there is a basic common sense expectation of privacy when somebody here communicates via PM. RMA is also right though that in the specific case of a PL process PMs are often disclosed, and sometimes made to be disclosed to substantiate what was or wasn't promised in a deal. But that's where common sense and the use of the word "private" can be misleading. If you write me a letter, drop it in the mail, and I receive it. No one can open it before it gets to me. It's sent only to me. Once I have it, however, I can do whatever I want with it. Absent some express agreement between the parties this is like putting your personal items in the garbage...you've let them out of your control. The expectation of privacy is gone once you let that letter out of your control and it's in the hands of its intended party. The PM system is simply a way of allowing people to speak to each other directly without having it be in a regular thread. It's not a Cone of Silence. Both parties have to agree to the privacy of the messages before the communication takes place. And even if there is such an agreement I can see waiver if one party comes to a public area and misstates the content of PM communication and the revelation of the PMs becomes necessary to correct an inaccuracy. I agree that there is no obligation to keep confidentiality, I was thinking more of certain customs or "best practices" which even here separate some things out as proper to one or the other, for example, if someone in a sale's thread starts opening negotiation in a thread they will be told to "take it to PM", signifying that it is not a proper subject for public scrutiny. Certainly, yes, after the fact, either one may choose to reveal those terms, so I do see your point. And absolutely, when there is a dispute, it by definition becomes subject to scrutiny. I guess it depends on the person. I treat PMs to me as confidential because I assume that they were directed to me personally for a reason, that does not (or should not) concern others. I do, too. It's part of common courtesy and positive interaction. It's the "GASP! You posted a PRIVATE message publicly, how DARE YOU!!!" from the peanut gallery that I'm addressing here. There is no such expectation of privacy, nor should there be. The things that, for example, Park has shared with me via PM, I do not share with anyone else, out of respect for him and because I value our friendship. I don't want to jeopardize that relationship by making public things we discussed privately (aka, "personal conversations between friends.") That's true even if he does like to roll around naked on Copper age comics. If, however, someone I didn't have a friendship with decided to send me a PM...unsolicited...in which they say less-than-positive things to or about me...they have no right to expect that, just because it was sent through the PM system, I can't make that message public. But some around here behave as if PMs, no matter what the context, are, as comix4fun said, a "Cone of Silence." People have even called for strikes and worse to those who "violate" the "sanctity" of the PM. And that's just ridiculous. Other than personally identifying information that the person has not made public, everything else is, and should be, fair to make public. I think I will now ease off my abusive PMs to you. I only abuse others in confidence.
  17. he has an ebay account but refused to disclose his ebayid to me He has an online store named "Present Magic Comics" on Thwipster. Link below. SFGregis12's Online Store says he has been selling since 2007 yet he claims ignorance of basic comic knowledge.
  18. Wow...just wow. Is this worthy of the HOS? This situation just keeps getting worse. I would think so...but I'm sure a couple of the bleeding hearts are chomping at the bit to defend him. I usually consider myself a bleeding heart but I have no sympathy for this guy.
  19. Anyone can miss something, and that includes dealers, me , anyone. It happens. But its also up to you as a new owner of the book to look it over and come to your own conclusion. I've bought books from just about everyone on here, dealers included. Every once in a bit I find something that wasn't mentioned. Its always been a case of just missing something, and usually the book is returned for a no hassle refund. I do the same in my sales threads for anyone who buys from me, and everyone knows that. Case closed. If I have a suspicion about something and am not sure I contact a few people on here I trust for a second opinon. Either way, if I suspect trimming, color touch, or replaced staples its disclosed in the sale. But again, you offer a full refund on anything you sell. It keeps customers happy, and coming back. And one more thing, I'm not buying the B.S. that " I don't know how to spot this or that ". We have plenty of people on here that are pretty good at resto check. Ask some questions and get some opinions. That's what this community is about. Helping a fellow boardie. If your not sure of the book. Don't sell it. If your not offering a refund, you should not be selling anything around here. I sure as h ell won't buy from you. And last. I never, ever, spend money from a sale until I hear from the seller and he's happy with the purchase. People want there money back and not some B.S. excuse that you spent the money. Don't spend it till its a done deal. Hey DR I totally agree with that bolded part (and everything else you have said).
  20. I agree it is totally unacceptable. There is a duty to disclose that information when specifically asked. That he did not is dishonest. It doesn't matter that the restoration was not confirmed. He stuck to his story about buying form a reputable seller and purposefully did not disclose that others had raised concerns.
