  1. When you love comics, shopping for yourself is the only way to go. Nice book.
  2. Well for sure the number of 9.8s has exploded in the early issues since 2007. I had the earliest at 145 in 2007. Since then we have added a 116, 124,129,138,140. I know the 116 and 140 were press/resubs. I'm not sure about the rest.
  3. I think prices will appreciate more. The trailer to the movie looks really good and the increased exposure can only help a character like Thor. If a movie seen by millions only pulls in 20 new high grade collectors and several hundred low/mid grade collectors that would be huge for the books.
  4. I think he should dump it. I would like to see prices remain depressed for at least a couple of years.
  5. He bought it in May 2004. The auction on comiclink was in 2008 and I think the final bid was around 79-80K. What if he had took that bid and bought 6-8 mid grade SC22 and BB28 each he would now have 160K. That is the challenge in investing. It is never about what you bought the security/comic for. It is only about whether the book you have now is a good investment going forward or is there a better choice. You can't chase return but you certainly don't want to hang on to a non-performer.
  6. It looks nice in the scan. How does it look in hand? What makes it a 6.5?
  7. Well, just ask Zaid how many years he`s been trying to find a buyer for his 9.2 copy. His problem is not demand. His problem is price. He paid 62K for that book and is asking 100K. He has had auction bids up to 80K twice and did not take them. And 80K is probably in line. The 9.4 sold for 159 and the 9.6 sold for 179.
  8. Here's a theoretical question. Batman 1 or Detective 29? Guide/grade values roughly equivalent.
  9. That's the problem. 16 high grade DC may be like 48 high grade copies of a Marvel key.
  10. It's the opposite of a blindspot mirror- Objects may be closer than they appear.
  11. It looks nice but that is a big number to pay for that risk. If that book comes back purple or even a 6.0 or 6.5 that would be a big loss.
  12. Your not making me feel any better. Maybe I'll just get 7.5 AF15. Will that help. That should be easy.
  13. Especially one damaged and leaking from a hail storm. (thumbs u
  14. Thanks for the encouragement. It's not a tough book but it doesn't come up in my grade range often. And everytime it comes up, I have a reason or an excuse to hold back.
  15. Yeah, but I'm saving my chips for a SC 4 and some Savannah books. I will be prepared. I should put a damn real bid on that 7.5 instead of the I think this will do and hope it works. I hope that guy tries to flip it. My bidding strategy has been awful in the past year and I have missed some books. The 7.5 had to come up the month that I got a new roof and painted the house.
  16. I'm still waiting for the right one. I got sniped on the 7.5 but I won't on the next one.
  17. That is probably too much money. I think there is a lack of interest in this book. I hope it is not becoming the Whiz 1(2) of the Silver Age. We can't even keep this thread on the first page.
  18. I was thinking about the 116 in 9.6 that Doug auctioned off and was blown away by how well it did. Then the inevitable ponderings on whether it was pressed or not came in my mind tonight. So I took a look and found a mystery. That it was pressed is not in doubt. But my question is where is the missing book. On Aug. 30th there were 0- 9.6, 3- 9.4, 2-9.2. In December we now have 1-9.6, 2-9.2, but only 1-9.4. So one 9.4 was squashed into a 9.6. Where is the other one. The only other addition was an 8.5. Is that the missing copy? That would be a huge downgrade and loss.
  19. As far as I can tell the main difference between high grade Marvel and DC collectors is this. In Marvel you have plenty of supply but not many can buy because they cost too much. In DC you have plenty of buyers but no one buys because you can't find them.
  20. That is the first one in several years.
  21. Underbidder once again. EZ Sniper was not the way to go.
  22. Yellow labels are sweet and Hulk 1 is a great book to own.
