These Blue Ribbons will be the ruin of me. The absolute ruin. When I saw this wreck of a BR #21 I just HAD to have it... and paid accordingly. Second-to-last issue of the run and so friggin' rare! I feel the way about this one that Gino feels about the BR #19. Love it to death and I'll probably be buried with it.

:applause:Certainly a "The time to buy it is when you see it" book.

Congrats!

I found this online bio of Jim Phillips:

He did serve in WWII as I was guessing. But his career in comics was over after he returned home; a pity.

Thanks for the kind words, @gino2paulus2!

Here's the other cool thing about Blue Ribbon #21 -- these two splash pages (and stories), credited to an artist named Jim Phillips. Took a spin on GCD, and it looks like he drew stories in BR #21 & #22, a handful of Zips and Top Notchs also from 1942, and that's pretty much it. I would like to know more about him... these are stunning.

Killer issue and just impossible in any condition. Last one I need for my run. Pretty much given up.

Great score!  And you call that a wreck? :roflmao:

The covers are split and detached, but point taken. Very pleased to have one in any grade.

The fanged clawed monster peeping through is awesome. I'm thinking an MLJ editor showed this cover to whichever artist was working on the TN #13 cover and said 'can you get in a scary green monster just like that?' Hey, he tried his best...  (shrug)

I think you maybe right lol

But awesome cover in its own right.

On another note I think MLJ's The Skull and Aces The Clown maybe contenders for MVP golden age villain cover appearances ?hm

The Skull is an interesting dude. Top Notch #10 has a story where he's murdering people one by one and leaving them with a 'ghastly green skull face', which is an obvious swipe of the Joker's first appearance. Seems like the writers tried to set up a Batman-Joker dynamic between The Black Hood and The Skull... as you can probably tell from the covers, he got way overused, but it worked in fits and starts.
