Thats another one that made HA's 10 rarest MLJ list...

Could you post the list please?

I was curious as to which 10 MLJ comics Heritage considered the rarest myself (Note: They did qualify the list with a maybe).

Here's a direct link with the covers represented:

Cool list! But surely Zip #22 should be there in place of "we've only sold three copies in 13 years" etc books, as they've never sold a single one. ???

Thanks David. Though i was asleep when Sacentaur made the request, the Boards never sleep lol

**But now you all see why i was so bummed about letting that Blue Ribbon 21 get away last Tuesday. Rarity aside, very cool cover? Almost looks like a forefather of the killer from the 'Scream' movies.

It's getting pretty late, but before I call it a night here's one more pre-Dusty PEP

(the strength of the color strike on this puppy is mind boggling):

Here's another sharp lookin' MLJ hero title that's a little fresher... :insane:

Unsigned, but looks like post-Timely Jack Kirby to me! :sumo:

Wonderful copy.

The Shield looks like Joe Simon's work to me. hm

Thanks! The pencils could be Joe's, since Simon sporadically penciled S&K work. Apparently Simon wasn't asked the specifics of this one-off for MLJ while he was alive. It certainly leaves lots of room for speculation.

The inking looks like it might be Novick. If so, the fact that the art isn't signed adds weight to S&K's involvement as Novick usually signed work that he penciled and inked. Note: The Shield's new costume and reduction in superpower also makes the character closer in design to Cap.

Perhaps S&K provided advice to MLJ on changing the Shield as payback for getting an un-Timely boot from their creation by Martin Goodman for moonlighting to other publishers. Who knows? (shrug)

GREAT covers all.......great images to share. I did not know that Heritage promoted the 21 but finished with the Hangman 8 as to scarcity.....

The recreation I had Fujitani do for me.....many moons ago

Cool recreation (and is that copy your # 8?) (worship)(worship)

Doesn't hurt that the Blue Ribbon 21 they featured in the article was courtesy of your incredible collection too Mr. Berk.

What do you think of later Zips?

Zip38.jpg

Like this one, Andrew posted some cool later Zips maybe a week or to ago also. The post Hero/serious tone covers are lighter in fare, but captivating in their own right.

Yeah I definitely like the later Zips... though if I am being honest I'm more partial to the multi character covers like Steve's 38. And this...

I like the the Red Rube covers that ended the series too, but just not as much as the others.

Thanks for posting that link Cat. Interesting, we've already seen most of the those "rare" ones in this thread. I like that Pep 33 cover, I think I may have seen it only once before.

Frankly as many can attest, I ain't no "Mister". As to having the book in the list which I did not note until yesterday, even a blind squirrel can find a nut.

Please note that I do not have any of the books that I do not have (!).......I am just an old geek like you guys that enjoys the bright colors.....jb oh the Hangman 8 is mine.....
