HIGHLIGHTS:

After a fairly restrained first night of drinking beer and swappin' lies,

theme of reincarnation in Howard's stories.

Then Mark Finn brought it all home, concluding with a condensed version of the article on Howard's weird westerns that he and I co-authored for the forthcoming collection Undead in the West II: They Just Keep Coming (look for it around September or October).

In the final panel the audience started to thin a bit as happy hour began to call,

there are now several very interesting upcoming projects on the drawing board that have me very excited. I hope to be able to say more in the coming weeks.

led us to a local watering hole for the annual Pulpfeast—dinner and drinks and great conversation.

Addendum to HIGHLIGHTS:

it was time to adjourn to the nearby pub to celebrate a long, exhausting, but very successful Pulp Studies symposium.

Friday morning we slept in, recovering from the academic marathon of the previous day and the John L. Sullivan Irish whiskey of the night before

Last week I helped chair the Pulp Studies sessions at the PCA/ACA conference, where there were five different papers given on Robert E. Howard. I just posted my trip report on my blog. Enjoy!

It's really tempting as a weekend getaway.

Time for a thread bump.

Earlier in this thread I posted a few of the pre-Marvel Conan comics that were published in Mexico in the 1950s and 60s. I recently scored a motherload by acquiring a collection of these rare books from a REH collector:

I'm posting scans of the individual issues in this thread in Gold so check it out. Many of of these have never been shown publicly before now.

I also put up a blog post discussing the slow discovery of these comics by US fandom over the years for those who interested in such things:

So if you're not reading King Conan: Hour of the Dragon you are missing out on the best Conan comics in decades. Forget Brian Wood. This is what a Conan comic should be. Truman nails it and Tomas Giorello's pencils are amazing. He has grown so much as an artist in the last few years. Seriously, every one should add this to their pull pile. Trust me on this!

Hmmmmm ...... I havn't read any new comics in ages. I clicked the link and looked at all 6 of those pages. Pretty good stuff !! And of course Conan is always a good read. I think I'll give it go.... thanks for the tip (thumbs u

I do want to find a nice copy of the story Beyond the Black River. Maybe one of the Mark Schultz books with that in it. I love that story.... but I can hardly remember why, cuz its been 15 + years since I read it. I only know I will like it when I read it

You won't regret it. Tim and Tomas have been collaborating for several years now but they are really knocking it out of the park with this one. I really love Tomas's artwork and Tim is a true REH fan who really gets it.
