While many that have been following this thread for as long as it has been active probably already have this book, but yesterday I was able to pickup TWD #19 CGC 9.8 at Fan Expo Chicago. I traded one of my Secret Wars 8 which was a newstand + mark jewelers in a CGC 9.4 along with a small amount of cash to one of the dealers. I could of sold the SW8 myself, but being able to trade for one of my modern day grails was worth it. Now from the big books in this series all I am pretty much missing from the collection is #1-5 which I hope to get over the next few years.

I’m a massive fan of 19.  My favorite cover from the series.  I thought about adding an Adlard sketch but I’m nervous something bad would happen.

Sorry, I should of been more clear. The ones that I have slabbed are:

  • #6 (9.8)
  • #7 (9.8)
  • #8 (9.8)
  • #9 (9.8)
  • #10 (9.8)
  • #25 (9.8)
  • #27 (9.8)
  • #33 (9.8)
  • #53 (9.8)
  • #61 (9.8)
  • #100 (9.8)
  • #193 (9.8)

All of the rest of the books are raw and I am missing about 50 books total from having a complete set.

It would be awesome to slab the entire series. When I got back into collecting comics, TWD was the one series I was set out to collect and then of course I got sidetracked. I'm also a ASM, Batman, and Spawn fan.....so you can only imagine how much I have gotten sidetracked. I bet the amount of money I spent on some of these other books, I could have finished up this collection along with having #1-5 in 9.8's. Taking a stupid detour and should of stayed focused.

I'm like you, and hopefully my kids can enjoy this stuff down the road.

I was fortunate when I got back into collecting in 2017 I only did TWD for 5 years until 2022.  That definitely helped me make major progress without being sidetracked.  It also allowed me to jump on good deals like runs and multiple graded books when the opportunity presented itself.  I put forward a pretty tough goal and I stuck to it.  Now I just have to track down 5 books that don’t come around very often and the wait is painful.

It is great that you were able to focus and a series like TWD does need just that, FOCUS. I almost won a #3 l in 9.8 last night off of an eBay auction and lost it by $5 which sucks.

For some odd reason, it seems like TWD #4 is quite expensive. I am not sure if the print run on it is very low compared to some of the rest of the books in the first 5 books.

19 is quite an awesome looking cover and overtime will be quite the iconic looking cover.

It looks like a never-before publicly seen (or sold as far as I can tell) TWD 1 9.9 has shown up in a ComicLink auction.  This is officially Cert number 17 of 26 known 9.9 examples.  Happy Bidding!

Just won this uniquely signed TWD #2 in 9.8. I had been looking for a SS of this book in 9.8 for a while.

Congrats again! You are making me very jealous, all I am missing from my 9.8 run (mostly have all of the keys throughout the entire series + 3-11 in 9.8's) is #1 and #2.

I did get #4 and #5 9.8's off of a guy on eBay in a combo deal back in February for a very good price. I am shocked at the prices of #5 in a 9.8 alone as it seems to be one of the more scarce books in the run and hard to get that 9.8 in general.

Thanks! The good news is that there have been a lot of #1s in 9.8 up for auction and the prices have cooled quite a bit. I've seen at least three #2s in 9.8 up for auction recently so hopefully you can snag those two when the time is right.

Where have the prices been of late for #1 and #2 in the auctions?

I meant to get back to you on this. Here's the recent price history from GPAnalysis for #1 and #2. The GPA subscription cost is worth it if you plan to buy expensive books because you will know exactly what to pay or bid for a book according to recent sale data.

Thank you! I have a GPA sub since I do sell books. I should have checked before responding, it seems that #1 has dropped quite a bit. Fingers crossed that it drops a bit more as I'd like to add that to my collection sometime soon. I am now just missing #1 and #2 in a 9.8 for the first 10 books.

Yea prices coming down big time. I'm over Walking Dead since they just destroyed the TV show for me, but the comic is still such an iconic modern for me. Few years back that was the grail book. I dont buy for flipping, so might pick up a nr-mint copy at some point for the PC. Would look cool on the wall.

I think this property has been such a cultural phenomenon that at some point we will see nostalgia push this back up.  The comic series was fantastic, and the show was pretty special.  A lot of fans left with the Glen situation, but there was a resurgence a few seasons later.  I do prefer the comic storyline though to the show arcs.

I sure hope for a re-boot in my lifetime. Personally I did not mind the Glen situation, we knew that was coming. I didn't mind the gore of the scenes or the fact that Glen had become a fan favorite. I feel the show fell off a few season later when the writing just got horrible. To many forced relationships that we did not need...the show drifted so far from the original couple seasons. All those spinoffs where also not needed in my opinion, especially the Rick and Michonne love story. We could not wait for Rick to come back and just for that? Naw I'm good, show me Rick in action and leading his team passed the Walkers to safety looking for answers.
